اللَّذَّة: نَقِيضُ الأَلَمِ، وَاحِدَةُ اللَّذَّاتِ.
Pleasure: the opposite of pain, one of the pleasures.
لَذَّهُ وَلَذَّ بِهِ يَلَذُّ لَذًا وَلَذَاذَةً وَالْتَذَّهُ وَالْتَذَّ بِهِ وَاسْتَلَذَّهُ: عَدَّهُ لَذِيذًا.
He found it pleasant, and found pleasure in it, experiencing pleasure, pleasantness, and finding it delightful, finding pleasure in it, and deeming it delightful: he considered it delightful.
وَلَذَّذْتُ الشَّيْءَ، بِالْكَسْرِ، لَذَاذًا وَلَذَاذَةً أَيْ وَجَدْتُهُ لَذِيذًا.
And I found the thing pleasant, with kasra, meaning I found it delightful.
وَالْتَذَّذْتُ بِهِ وَتَلَذَّذْتُ بِهِ بِمَعْنًى.
And I found pleasure in it and took pleasure in it, meaning the same.
وَاللَّذَّةُ وَاللَّذَاذَةُ وَاللَّذِيذُ وَاللَّذْوَى: كُلُّهُ الأَكْلُ وَالشُّرْبُ بِنِعْمَةٍ وَكَفَايَةٍ.
And pleasure, pleasantness, delightful, and 'lathwa': all refer to eating and drinking with abundance and sufficiency.
وَلَذَّذْتُ الشَّيْءَ أُلِذُّهُ إِذَا اسْتَلَذْذَتُهُ.
And I found the thing pleasant, meaning I found it delightful.
وَأَنَا أَلَذُّ بِهِ لَذَاذَةً وَلَذَّذْتُهُ سَوَاءٌ؛
And I experience pleasure from it with pleasantness, and I found it pleasant are the same;
وَقَالَ رُؤْبَةُ: لَذَّتْ أَحَادِيثُ الْغَوِيِّ الْمُبْدِعِ أَيْ اسْتَلَذَّ بِهَا؛
And Ru'bah said: The sayings of the eloquent innovator were delightful, meaning he found pleasure in them;
وَيُجْمَعُ اللَّذِيذُ لَذَاذًا.
And the plural of 'lathith' is 'lathath'.
وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: إِذَا رَكِبَ أَحَدُكُمُ الدَّابَّةَ فَلْيَحْمِلْهَا عَلَى مَلَاذِّهَا أَيْ لِيَجُرَّهَا فِي السُّهُولَةِ لَا فِي الْحُزُونَةِ.
And in the hadith: When one of you rides a mount, let him lead it to its pleasant places, meaning let him lead it on easy ground, not on rough terrain.
وَالْمَلَاذُ: جَمْعُ مَلَذٍّ، وَهُوَ مَوْضِعُ اللَّذَّةِ، مِنْ لَذَّ الشَّيْءُ يَلَذُّ لَذَاذَةً، فَهُوَ لَذِيذٌ أَيْ مُشْتَهَى.
And 'malath': the plural of 'malath', which is a place of pleasure, from 'a thing is pleasant' it becomes pleasant, so it is delightful, meaning desired.
فَقَالَتْ: قَدْ مَضَى لَذْوَاهَا وَبَقِيَ بَلْوَاهَا أَيْ لَذَّتُهَا،
And she said: Its pleasures have passed, and its trials remain, meaning its delights,
وَأَرَادَتْ بِذَهَابِ لَذْوَاهَا حَيَاةَ سَيِّدِنَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَبِالْبَلْوَى مَا حَدَثَ بَعْدَهُ مِنَ الْمِحَنِ.
And she meant by the passing of its pleasures the life of our master, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and by the trials, the calamities that occurred after him.
أَلَذَّهُ كَمَا أَلَذَّ رِيقِي قَالَ: تَقُولُ لَذَذْتُهُ، بِالْكَسْرِ، أُلِذُّهُ، بِالْفَتْحِ.
He made it pleasant as he made my saliva pleasant, saying: You say 'I found it pleasant', with kasra, 'I make it pleasant', with fatha.
وَرَجُلٌ لَذٌّ: مُلْتَذٌّ؛
And a man is 'lathth': one who enjoys;
وَقَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ أَيْ لَذِيذَةٍ، وَقِيلَ لَذَّةٍ أَيْ ذَاتِ لَذَّةٍ؛
And His Almighty saying: Of wine, a delight for those who drink, meaning delightful, and it is said 'a delight', meaning possessing delight;
وَشَرَابٌ لَذٌّ مِنْ أَشْرِبَةٍ لَذٍّ وَلَذَاذٍ، وَلَذِيذٌ مِنْ أَشْرِبَةٍ لَذَاذٍ.
And a pleasant drink from pleasant drinks and 'lathath', and delightful from 'lathath' drinks.
وَكَأْسٌ لَذَّةٌ: لَذِيذَةٌ.
And a cup of delight: delightful.
وَقَدْ رُوِيَ بَيْتُ سَاعِدَةَ: لَذَّ بِهَزِّ الْكَفِّ؛ أَرَادَ يَلْتَذُّ الْكَفُّ بِهِ، وَجَعَلَ اللَّذَّةَ لِلْعَرَضِ الَّذِي هُوَ الْهَزُّ لِتَشَبُّثِهِ بِالْكَفِّ إِذَا هَزَّتْهُ، وَالْمَعْرُوفُ لَدُنْ، وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ سِيبَوَيْهِ؛
And the verse of Sa'idah has been narrated: It was pleasant with the shaking of the hand; he meant the hand enjoys it, and he made the pleasure for the incidental thing which is the shaking, due to its attachment to the hand when it shakes it, and the known word is 'ladun', and Sibawayh narrated it likewise;
حَتَّى اكْتَسَى الرَّأْسُ قِنَاعًا أَشْهَبَا ... أَمْلَحَ، لَا لَذٌّ وَلَا مُحَبَّبَا
Until the head was covered with a greyish veil... Whitish, neither pleasant nor beloved
وَلَذَّ الشَّيْءُ: صَارَ لَذِيذًا.
And a thing became pleasant: it became delightful.
ابْنُ الأَعْرَابِيِّ: اللَّذُّ النَّوْمُ؛
Ibn Al-A'rabi: 'Al-lathth' is sleep;
وَلَذَّ كَطَعْمِ الصَّرْخَدِيِّ، تَرَكْتُهُ ... بِأَرْضِ الْعِدَى، مِنْ خَشْيَةِ الْحَدَثَانِ
And sleep was pleasant like the taste of 'sarkhadi', which I left... in the land of enemies, for fear of events.
وَلَذَّ لَذَا أَيْ قَرَنَ بَعْضَهُ إِلَى بَعْضٍ.
And it was pleasant, pleasant, meaning it joined some of it to some of it.
وَاللَّذْلَذَةُ: السُّرْعَةُ وَالْخِفَّةُ.
And 'lathlathah': speed and lightness.
وَاللَّذْلَاذُ: الذِّئْبُ لِسُرْعَتِهِ؛
And 'lathlath': the wolf, for its speed;
وَالْجَوْهَرِيُّ: وَاللَّذُّ وَاللَّذُّ، بِكَسْرِ الذَّالِ وَتَسْكِينِهَا، لُغَةٌ فِي الَّذِي، وَالتَّثْنِيَةُ اللَّذَا بِحَذْفِ النُّونِ، وَالْجَمْعُ الَّذِينَ؛
And Al-Jawhari: And 'al-lathth' and 'al-lathth', with kasra on the dhal and with sukun, is a dialectal variant of 'alladhi', and the dual is 'al-latha' with the omission of the nun, and the plural is 'alladhina';
وَرُبَّمَا قَالُوا فِي الْجَمْعِ اللَّذُونَ.
And sometimes they say for the plural 'al-lathuna'.
