نشدت الضالة إذا ناديت وسألت عنها.
I sought the lost item if I called out for it and asked about it.
ابن سيده: نشد الضالة ينشدها نشدة ونشدانا طلبها وعرفها.
Ibn Sidah said: He sought the lost item, seeking it, a seeking and a seeking, meaning he sought it and recognized it.
وأنشدها: عرفها؛ ويقال أيضا: نشدتها إذا عرفتها؛
And he made it known: he identified it; and it is also said: I recognized it if I identified it;
كما استمع ... المضل لصوت ناشد أضل أي ضل له شيء، فهو ينشده.
as the one who has gone astray listens to the voice of a seeker whose something has gone astray, so he seeks it.
زعموا أن امرأة قالت لابنتها: احفظي بنتك ممن لا تنشدين أي لا تعرفين.
They claimed that a woman said to her daughter: 'Guard your daughter from one whom you do not recognize, meaning you do not know.'
أحسبه قال هذا وغيره أراد بالناشد أيضا رجلا قد ضلت دابته، فهو ينشدها أي يطلبها ليتعزى بذلك؛
I think he said this, and others meant by the seeker also a man whose mount had gone astray, so he seeks it, meaning he looks for it to be consoled by that;
وهذا من عجيب كلامهم أن يكون الناشد الطالب والمعرف جميعا،
And this is from their strange speech that the seeker is both the one who seeks and the one who recognizes,
وقيل: أنشد الضالة استرشد عنها،
And it was said: He sought the lost item, meaning he sought guidance about it,
والناشدون: الذين ينشدون الإبل ويطلبون الضوال فيأخذونها ويحبسونها على أربابها؛
And the seekers: those who seek camels and look for lost animals, then take them and keep them for their owners;
فالناشد الطالب، يقال منه: نشدت الضالة أنشدها وأنشدها نشدا ونشدانا إذا طلبتها، فأنا ناشد، وأنشدتها فأنا منشد إذا عرفتها.
So the seeker is the one who seeks. It is said from it: I sought the lost item, I seek it and I seek it, a seeking and a seeking, if you sought it, then I am a seeker, and I made it known, then I am one who makes known if you recognized it.
إلا لمنشد ؛ قال أبو عبيد: المنشد المعرف.
except for one who makes it known; Abu Ubaid said: The munshid is the one who makes known.
يا أيها الناشد، غيرك الواجد ؛ معناه لا وجدت
O seeker, another has found it; meaning, may you not find it
وإنما قيل للطالب ناشد لرفع صوته بالطلب.
And the seeker is only called a seeker because of raising his voice in seeking.
والنشيد: رفع الصوت، وكذلك المعرف يرفع صوته بالتعريف فسمي منشدا؛
And the nashid: raising the voice, and likewise the one who makes known raises his voice in making known, so he is named munshid;
ومن هذا إنشاد الشعر إنما هو رفع الصوت.
And from this is the recitation of poetry, it is only raising the voice.
وقولهم: نشدتك بالله وبالرحم، معناه: طلبت إليك بالله وبحق الرحم برفع نشيدي أي صوتي.
And their saying: I implore you by God and by kinship, means: I sought from you by God and by the right of kinship by raising my nashid, meaning my voice.
قال: وقولهم نشدت الضالة أي رفعت نشيدي أي صوتي بطلبها.
He said: And their saying 'I sought the lost item' means 'I raised my nashid, meaning my voice, in seeking it.'
ومننه نشد الشعر وأنشده، فنشده: أشاد بذكره، وأنشده إذا رفعه،
And from it is seeking poetry and reciting it, so nashadahu: he exalted his mention, and anshadahu if he raised it,
قال: إنه فرق بقوله هذا بين لقطة الحرم ولقطة سائر البلدان لأنه جعل الحكم في لقطة سائر البلاد أن ملتقطها إذا عرفها سنة حل له الانتفاع بها،
He said: He distinguished by this saying between found property in the Haram and found property in other lands because he made the ruling for found property in other lands that its finder, if he makes it known for a year, it becomes permissible for him to benefit from it,
غيره: ونشدت فلانا أنشده نشدا إذا قلت له نشدتك الله أي سألتك بالله كأنك ذكرته إياه فنشد أي تذكر؛
Others said: And I sought from so-and-so, making him seek, a seeking, if you said to him 'I implore you by God,' meaning 'I asked you by God' as if you reminded him of it, so he sought, meaning he remembered;
يعني النعمان بن المنذر إذا سئل بكتب الجوائز أعطى.
meaning Al-Nu'man ibn Al-Mundhir, if he was asked by the books of prizes, he gave.
ويقال نشد ينشد فلان فلانا إذا قال نشدتك بالله والرحم.
And it is said: So-and-so seeks from so-and-so if he says: I implore you by God and by kinship.
وتقول: ناشدتك الله.
And you say: I implore you by God.
نشدتك الله نشدة ونشدة ونشدانا استحلفتك بالله،
I implored you by God, a seeking, and a seeking, and a seeking, meaning I adjured you by God,
وأنشدك بالله إلا فعلت: أستحلفك بالله.
And I implore you by God, you must do it: meaning I adjure you by God.
وقد ناشده مناشدة ونشادا.
And he implored him, a mutual imploring and a seeking.
وفي الحديث: نشدتك الله والرحم أي سألتك بالله والرحم.
And in the hadith: I implore you by God and kinship, meaning I asked you by God and kinship.
يقال: نشدتك الله وأنشدك الله وبالله وناشدتك الله وبالله أي سألتك وأقسمت عليك.
It is said: I implore you by God, and I implore you by God, and by God, and I implore you by God, and by God, meaning I asked you and swore to you.
وتعديته إلى مفعولين إما لأنه بمنزلة دعوت، حيث قالوا نشدتك الله وبالله، كما قالوا دعوته زيدا وبزيد إلا أنهم ضمنوه معنى ذكرت.
And making it transitive to two objects is either because it is like 'I called him', as they said 'I implored you by God and by God', just as they said 'I called him Zayd and by Zayd', except that they included the meaning of 'I mentioned'.
فأما أنشدتك بالله فخطأ:
As for 'I made you recite by God', it is incorrect:
ومن حديث قيلة: فنشدت عليه «2» فسألته الصحبة أي طلبت منه.
And from the hadith of Qaylah: 'So I sought from him', meaning I asked him for companionship, meaning I sought it from him.
وفي حديث أبي سعيد: أن الأعضاء كلها تكفر اللسان تقول: نشدك الله فينا ؛
And in the hadith of Abu Sa'id: That all the limbs atone for the tongue, saying: 'We implore you by God for us;'
قال ابن الأثير: النشدة مصدر وأما نشدك فقيل إنه حذف منها التاء وأقامها مقام الفعل،
Ibn al-Athir said: Al-nashdah is a masdar, but as for nashdak, it is said that the 'ta' was omitted from it and it was substituted for the verb,
ولعل الراوي قد حرف الرواية عن ننشدك الله، أو أراد سيبويه والخليل قلة مجيئه في الكلام لا عدمه، أو لم يبلغهما مجيئه في الحديث فحذف الفعل الذي هو أنشدك الله ووضع المصدر موضعه مضافا إلى الكاف الذي كان مفعولا أول.
And perhaps the narrator has altered the narration from 'I implore you by God', or Sibawayh and Al-Khalil meant its infrequent occurrence in speech, not its absence, or it did not reach them in the hadith, so they omitted the verb 'anashiduka Allah' and put the masdar in its place, added to the kaf which was the first object.
وفي حديث عثمان: فأنشد له رجال أي أجابوه.
And in the hadith of Uthman: 'So men responded to him', meaning they answered him.
يقال: نشدته فأنشدني وأنشد لي أي سألته فأجابني،
It is said: I sought from him, so he answered me and he answered for me, meaning I asked him, and he answered me,
وقسط الرجل إذا جار، وأقسط إذا عدل، كأنه أزال جوره وأزال نشيده،
And a man was unjust if he wronged, and he was just if he acted justly, as if he removed his injustice and removed his seeking,
وفي الخبر: أن أم قيس بن ذريح أبغضت لبنى فناشدته في طلاقها ،
And in the report: That Umm Qays bint Dhurayh disliked Lubna, so she implored him regarding her divorce,
وقد يجوز أن تكون عدت بفي لأن في ناشدت معنى طلبت ورغبت وتكلمت؛
And it is permissible for it to be transitive with 'fi' because in 'nashadtu' there is the meaning of seeking, desiring, and speaking;
وتناشدوا: أنشد بعضهم بعضا.
And they recited to each other: one reciting to another.
والنشيد: فعيل بمعنى مفعل.
And the nashid: fa'il meaning maf'ul.
والنشيد: الشعر المتناشد بين القوم ينشد بعضهم بعضا؛
And the nashid: poetry recited among people, one reciting to another;
ومسوف نشد الصبوح صبحته، ... قبل الصباح، وقبل كل نداء
And the hungry one, seeking the morning meal, greeted him in the morning, ... before the morning, and before every call
نَشَدَهُ: طلبه؛
He sought him: he asked for him;
أنشد الناس ولا أنشدهم، ... إنما ينشد من كان أضل
I seek from people and do not seek from them, ... only one who has gone astray seeks
قال: لا أنشدهم أي لا أدل عليهم.
He said: I do not seek from them, meaning I do not guide them.
وينشد: يطلب.
And yanshudu: he seeks.
والنشيد من الأشعار: ما يتناشد.
And the nashid of poems: what is recited to each other.
وأنشد بهم. هجاهم.
And he insulted them. He insulted them.
هذا جرير ينشد بنا أي يهجونا؛
This is Jarir insulting us, meaning he insults us;
واستنشدت فلانا شعره فأنشدنيه.
And I asked so-and-so for his poetry, and he recited it to me.
ومنشد: اسم موضع؛
And Munshid: a place name;
إذا ما انجلت عنه غداة ضبابة، ... غدا وهو في بلد خرانق منشد
When the mist cleared from him in the morning, ... he went forth, and he was in the land of Kharanaq, in Munshid
