Al-Akhfash said: Najd is a dialect of Hudhayl specifically, meaning Najd.
وما ارتفع عن تهامة إلى أرض العراق، فهو نجد
And what is elevated from Tihama to the land of Iraq, that is Najd.
فهي ترعى بنجد وتشرب بتهامة
So they graze in Najd and drink in Tihama.

Ibn al-Athir said: He meant a place with a border from Najd and a border from Tihama, so it is not entirely from one nor the other.
