وتكأدته الأمور إذا شقت عليه.
And matters became difficult for him if they were hard for him.
أبو زيد: تكأدت الذهاب إلى فلان تكؤدا إذا ما ذهبت إليه على مشقة.
Abu Zayd said: I went to so-and-so with difficulty, if I went to him with hardship.
ويقال: تكأدني الذهاب تكؤدا إذا ما شق عليك.
And it is said: Going was difficult for me, if it became hard for you.
وتكأد الأمر: كابده وصلي به؛ عن ابن الأعرابي؛ وأنشد:
And the matter was endured: he suffered it and persevered through it; from Ibn al-A'rabi; and he recited:
ويوم عماس تكأدته ... طويل النهار قصير الغد
And on a day of battle, I endured it... Long is the day, short is the morrow
وعقبة كؤود وكأداء: شاقة المصعد صعبة المرتقى؛
And a difficult ascent (كؤود) and (كأداء): steep to climb, hard to ascend;
قال رؤبة: ولم تكأد رجلتي كأداؤه، ... هيهات من جوز الفلاة ماؤه
Ru'bah said: And my legs did not find its ascent difficult, ... Far away is its water from the midst of the wilderness.
وفي حديث أبي الدرداء: إن بين أيدينا عقبة كؤودا لا يجوزها إلا الرجل المخف.
And in the hadith of Abu al-Darda': Indeed, before us is a difficult mountain pass which only the lightly burdened can cross.
ويقال: هي الكؤداء وهي الصعداء.
And it is said: It is the كؤداء, and it is the الصعداء (steep ascent).
والكؤود: المرتقى الصعب، وهو الصعود.
And the كؤود: the difficult ascent, which is the climbing.
ابن الأعرابي: الكأداء الشدة والخوف والحذار، ويقال: الهول والليل المظلم.
Ibn al-A'rabi said: The كأداء is hardship, fear, and apprehension, and it is also said: terror and the dark night.
وفي حديث علي: وتكأدنا ضيق المضجع.
And in the hadith of Ali: And the narrowness of the resting place became difficult for us.
اكوأد الشيخ: أرعش من الكبر.
