عام العهود
The year of 'uhud (time/rain).
مطر العهود أحسن ما يكون لقلة غبار الآفاق؛
Rain of the 'uhud (time/rain) is the best it can be due to the scarcity of dust in the horizons;
قيل: عام العهود عام قلة الأمطار.
It was said: the year of 'uhud (time/rain) is a year of little rain.
الملسى لا عهدة له
The one who escapes has no responsibility.
والملسى: ذهاب في خفية، وهو نعت لفعلته، والملسى مؤنثة،
And al-malsā: is a stealthy departure, it is an adjective for his action, and al-malsā is feminine,
معناه أنه خرج من الأمر سالما فانقضى عنه لا له ولا عليه؛
Its meaning is that he got out of the affair safely and it passed from him, neither for him nor against him;
وقيل: الملسى أن يبيع الرجل سلعة يكون قد سرقها فيملس ويغيب بعد قبض الثمن، وإن استحقت في يدي المشتري لم يتهيأ له أن يبيع البائع بضمان عهدتها لأنه املس هاربا،
And it was said: al-malsā is when a man sells an item he has stolen, then he escapes and disappears after receiving the price, and if it is reclaimed from the buyer's hand, the seller cannot be sued for its guarantee ('uhdatiha) because he has escaped and fled,
وعهدتها أن يبيعها وبها عيب أو فيها استحقاق لمالكها.
And its guarantee ('uhdatiha) is that he sells it with a defect or with a claim by its owner.
تقول: أبيعك الملسى لا عهدة أي تنملس وتنفلت فلا ترجع إلي.
You say: I sell you the al-malsā with no 'uhda, meaning you will escape and slip away and not return to me.
متى عهدك بأسفل فيك؟
When was your last memory of the lower part of your mouth?
وذلك إذا سألته عن أمر قديم لا عهد له به؛
And that is when you ask him about an old matter he has no memory of;
ومثله: عهدك بالفاليات قديم؛
And like it: your memory of al-Faliyat is old;
يضرب مثلا للأمر الذي قد فات ولا يطمع فيه؛
It is used as an example for a matter that has passed and is not to be hoped for;
وهيهات طار غرابها بجرادتك؛
Alas, its raven flew away with your locust;
وأنشد: وعهدي بعهد الفاليات قديم
And he recited: And my memory of the time of al-Faliyat is old
وأنشد أبو الهيثم: وإني لأطوي السر في مضمر الحشا، ... كمون الثرى في عهدة ما يريمها
And Abu al-Haytham recited: And indeed I conceal the secret in my innermost heart, ... like the hiddenness of the soil in a 'uhda (place) that the soil does not leave.
أراد بالعهدة مقنوءة لا تطلع عليها الشمس فلا يريمها الثرى.
He meant by 'uhda a hidden place not exposed to the sun, so the soil does not leave it.
والعهد: الزمان.
And al-'ahd: is time.
وقرية عهيدة أي قديمة أتى عليها عهد طويل.
And a village 'ahida, meaning ancient, a long time has passed over it.
وبنو عهادة: بطين من العرب.
And Banu 'Ahada: a tribe of Arabs.
