And Al-Layth said: Al-ṣuʿūd is the female camel whose calf dies, so she returns to her young one and gives milk to it, and it is said: it is better for her milk;
والخلية: الناقة تعطف مع أخرى على ولد واحد فتدران عليه، فيتخلى أهل البيت بواحدة يحلبونها، والجمع صعائد وصعد؛
And al-khaliyyah: the female camel that nurses with another on a single calf, so they both give milk to it, and the household members choose one to milk, and the plural is ṣaʿāʾid and ṣuʿad;
فأما سيبويه فأنكر الصعد.
As for Sibawayh, he denied the plural ṣuʿad.
وأصعدت الناقة وأصعدها، بالألف، وصعدها: جعلها صعودا؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.
