الربدة: الغبرة؛ وقيل: لون إلى الغبرة
Al-rabdah: dustiness; and it was said: a color tending towards dustiness.
الربدة والربد في النعام سواد مختلط
Al-rabdah and al-rabd in ostriches is a mixed blackness.
ظليم أربد ونعامة ربداء ورمداء: لونها كلون الرماد
A dusty male ostrich and a dusty female ostrich and a dusty female ostrich: their color is like the color of ash.
وقد اربد اربدادا
And he became dusty, with dustiness.
وربدت الشاة ورمدت وذلك إذا أضرعت فترى في ضرعها لمع سواد وبياض
And the ewe became dusty and dusty, and that is when its udder becomes thin, and you see in its udder a sheen of black and white.
وتربد ضرعها إذا رأيت فيه لمعا من سواد ببياض خفي
And its udder became dusty when you saw in it a sheen of blackness with hidden whiteness.
والربداء من المعزى: السوادء المنقطة بحمرة
And al-rabdā' from the goats: the black one spotted with redness.
واربد وجهه وتربد: احمر حمرة فيها سواد عند الغضب
And his face became dusty and became dusty: it reddened with a redness that had blackness in it when angry.
والربدة: غبرة في الشفة
And al-rabdah: dustiness on the lip.
وفي حديث حذيفة حين ذكر الفتنة: أي قلب أشربها صار مربدا
And in the narration of Hudhayfah when he mentioned the tribulation: 'What heart absorbed it became a مربد (dusty/darkened)'.
قال أبو عبيدة: الربدة لون بين السواد والغبرة
Abu Ubaydah said: Al-rabdah is a color between blackness and dustiness.
وقال ابن شميل: لما رآني تربد لونه
And Ibn Shumayl said: When he saw me, his color changed.
وتربد وجهه أي تغير من الغضب
And his face became dusty, meaning it changed from anger.
ويقال اربد لونه كما يقال احمر واحمار
And it is said his color became dusty, just as it is said he became red and reddened.
وإذا غضب الإنسان تربد وجهه كأنه يسود منه مواضع
And when a person gets angry, his face becomes dusty as if places on it are darkening.
وداهية ربداء أي منكرة
And a formidable calamity, meaning an unusual one.
وتربد الرجل: تعبس
And the man became dusty: he scowled.
وفي حديث: كان إذا نزل عليه الوحي اربد وجهه أي تغير إلى الغبرة
And in the narration: When the revelation came down to him, his face became dusty, meaning it changed to dustiness.
وتربدت السماء: تغيمت
And the sky became dusty: it became cloudy.
والأربد: ضرب من الحيات خبيث
And al-arbad: a type of malicious snake.
وربد الإبل يربدها ربدا: حبسها
And he confined the camels, confining them, with confinement.
والمربد: محبسها
And al-marbad: their confinement place.
عواصي إلا ما جعلت وراءها ... عصا مربد، تغشى نحورا وأذرعا
Obstinate, except for what you placed behind them... a marbad stick, covering necks and forearms.
قال أبو منصور: وقد أنكر غيره ما قال، وقال: أراد عصا معترضة على باب المربد فأضاف العصا المعترضة إلى المربد ليس أن العصا مربد
Abu Mansur said: And others have denied what he said, and said: He meant a stick placed across the door of the marbad, and he attributed the crossing stick to the marbad, not that the stick itself is a marbad.
وقال غيره: الربد الحبس، والرابد: الخازن، والرابدة: الخازنة
And others said: Al-rabd is confinement, and al-rābid is the treasurer, and al-rābidah is the female treasurer.
والمربد: الموضع الذي تحبس فيه الإبل وغيرها
And al-marbad: the place where camels and others are confined.
وفي حديث صالح بن عبد الله بن الزبير: أنه كان يعمل ربدا بمكة
And in the narration of Salih ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr: he used to make ربد (mud structures/confinement places) in Mecca.
الربد، بفتح الباء: الطين
Al-rabd, with a fatha on the ba: mud.
والرباد: الطيان أي بناء من طين كالسكر
And al-rabād: the mud-builder, meaning a structure of mud like sugar.
ومربد البصرة: من ذلك سمي لأنهم كانوا يحبسون فيه الإبل
And Marbad of Basra: it was named from that because they used to confine camels in it.
وفي حديث النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم: أن مسجده كان مربدا ليتيمين في حجر معاذ بن عفراء، فجعله للمسلمين فبناه رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، مسجدا
And in the narration of the Prophet, peace be upon him: that his mosque was a marbad for two orphans in the care of Mu'adh ibn Afra', so he made it for the Muslims and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, built it as a mosque.
قال الأصمعي: المربد كل شيء حبست به الإبل والغنم
Al-Asma'i said: Al-marbad is anything with which you confine camels and sheep.
وبه سمي مربد البصرة، إنما كان موضع سوق الإبل
And Marbad of Basra was named from this; it was the place of the camel market.
وهو بكسر الميم وفتح الباء، من ربد بالمكان إذا أقام فيه
And it is with a kasra on the mim and a fatha on the ba, from 'rabada bil-makān' if he stayed in it.
وفي الحديث: أنه تيمم بمربد الغنم
And in the narration: He performed tayammum with the marbad of sheep.
وربد بالمكان يربد ربودا إذا أقام به
And he stayed in the place, staying, with staying, if he remained in it.
وقال ابن الأعرابي: ربده حبسه
And Ibn al-A'rabi said: 'rabada-hu' means he confined him.
والمربد: فضاء وراء البيوت يرتفق به
And al-marbad: an open space behind the houses that is used for utility.
والمربد: كالحجرة في الدار
And al-marbad: like a room in the house.
ومربد التمر: جرينه الذي يوضع فيه بعد الجداد لييبس
And marbad al-tamr: its granary where it is placed after harvesting to dry.
قال سيبويه: هو اسم كالمطبخ وإنما مثله به لأن الطبخ تيبيس
Sibawayh said: It is a noun like al-matbakh (kitchen), and he likened it to it because cooking is drying.
قال أبو عبيد: والمربد أيضا موضع التمر مثل الجرين
Abu Ubayd said: And al-marbad is also a place for dates like al-jurn (granary).
فالمربد بلغة أهل الحجاز والجرين لهم أيضا، والأندر لأهل الشام، والبيدر لأهل العراق
So al-marbad is in the language of the people of Hijaz, and al-jurn is also theirs, and al-andir for the people of Sham, and al-baydar for the people of Iraq.
وأهل المدينة يسمون الموضع الذي يجفف فيه التمر لينشف مربدا، وهو المسطح والجرين في لغة أهل نجد
And the people of Medina call the place where dates are dried to become dry a marbad, and it is al-musattah and al-jurn in the language of the people of Najd.
والمربد للتمر كالبيدر للحنطة
And the marbad for dates is like the baydar for wheat.
وفي الحديث: حتى يقوم أبو لبابة يسد ثعلب مربده بإزاره ؛ يعني موضع تمره
And in the narration: Until Abu Lubabah stood and blocked the opening of his marbad with his garment; meaning the place of his dates.
وربد الرجل إذا كنز التمر في الربائد وهو الكراحات وتمر ربيد: نضد في الجرار أو في الحب ثم نضح بالماء
And the man stored dates if he hoarded dates in the rabā'id, which are the large jars, and rabīd dates: piled in jars or containers then sprinkled with water.
والربد: فرند السيف
And al-rabd: the pattern of the sword.
وربد السيف: فرنده، هذلية؛ قال صخر الغي: وصارم أخلصت خشيبته، ... أبيض مهو، في متنه ربد
And the sword's rabd: its pattern, Hudhali; Sakhr al-Ghay said: And a sharp one whose wood I refined... white and fine, on its blade is rabd.
وسيف ذو ربد، بفتح الباء، إذا كنت ترى فيه شبه غبار أو مدب نمل يكون في جوهره
And a sword with rabd, with a fatha on the ba, if you see in it something like dust or ant tracks in its essence.
وأربد الرجل: أفسد ماله ومتاعه
And the man became arbada: he spoiled his wealth and his possessions.
وأربد: اسم رجل
And Arbad: a man's name.
وأربد بن ربيعة: أخو لبيد الشاعر
And Arbad ibn Rabi'ah: the brother of Labid the poet.
والربيدان: نبت
And al-rabīdan: a plant.
