I found my father a spring for the orphans... and for the guests, when the embers subsided.
حتى جعلناهم حصيدا خامدين
Until We made them like reaped, dormant (remnants).
والخمود على وزن التنور: موضع تدفن فيه النار حتى تخمد.
And 'al-khumood' (subsidence), on the pattern of 'al-tannoor' (oven): a place where fire is buried until it subsides.
وخمدت الحمى: سكن فورانها
And the fever subsided: its intensity quieted.
وخمد المريض: أغمي عليه أو مات.
And the patient became unconscious: he fainted or died.
تقول رأيته مخمدا ومخبتا ومخلدا ومخبطا ومسبطا ومهديا إذا رأيته ساكنا لا يتحرك.
You say: I saw him still, subdued, immortal, calm, tranquil, and guided, when you saw him still and not moving.
والمخمد: الساكن الساكت
And 'al-mukhmid': the still, the silent.
مثل الذي بالغيل يقرو مخمدا
Like him who at al-Baghil approaches a still one.
مخمد ساكن قد وطن نفسه على الأمر.
A still one, quiet, who has prepared himself for the matter.
