وفي الحديث: أنه، صلى الله عليه وسلم، نهى عن حصاد [حصاد] الليل وعن جداده ؛ الحصاد [الحصاد]، بالفتح والكسر: قطع الزرع؛ قال أبو عبيد: إنما نهى عن ذلك ليلا من أجل المساكين لأنهم كانوا يحضرونه فيتصدق عليهم؛ ومنه قوله تعالى: وآتوا حقه يوم حصاده ؛ وإذا فعل ذلك ليلا فهو فرار من الصدقة؛ ويقال: بل نهى عن ذلك لأجل الهوام أن تصيب الناس إذا حصدوا ليلا.
And in the Hadith: that he, peace be upon him, forbade the harvest of the night and its reaping; Al-Hisad (with fath and kasr): cutting the crop; Abu Ubaid said: He only forbade it at night for the sake of the poor because they would attend and charity would be given to them; and from this is His saying: 'And give its due on the day of its harvest'; and if it is done at night, it is an evasion of charity; and it is said: rather, he forbade it because of vermin that might harm people if they harvested at night.
وقوله تعالى: وحب الحصيد ؛ قال الفراء: هذا مما أضيف إلى نفسه وهو مثل قوله تعالى: إن هذا لهو حق اليقين؛ ومثله قوله تعالى: ونحن أقرب إليه من حبل الوريد؛ والحبل: هو الوريد فأضيف إلى نفسه لاختلاف لفظ الاسمين.
And His saying: 'And the grain of the harvest'; Al-Farra' said: This is from what is attributed to itself, and it is like His saying: 'Indeed, this is the truth of certainty'; and similarly His saying: 'And We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein'; and Al-Habl: is the jugular vein, so it is attributed to itself because of the difference in the wording of the two names.
وقال الزجاج: نصب قوله وحب الحصيد أي وأنبتنا فيها حب الحصيد فجمع بذلك جميع ما يقتات من حب الحنطة والشعير وكل ما حصد، كأنه قال: وحب النبت الحصيد؛ وقال الليث: أراد حب البر المحصود، قال الأزهري: وقول الزجاج أصح لأنه أعم.
And Al-Zajjaj said: The نصب of 'and the grain of the harvest' means 'and We caused to grow in it the grain of the harvest', thus encompassing all that is eaten from wheat, barley, and everything that is harvested, as if he said: 'and the grain of the harvested plant'; and Al-Layth said: He meant the harvested wheat; Al-Azhari said: Al-Zajjaj's saying is more correct because it is more general.
والمحصد، بالكسر: المنجل.
And Al-Miḥṣad (with kasr): the sickle.
وحصدهم يحصدهم [يحصدهم] حصدا: قتلهم؛ قال الأعشى:
And he killed them, killing them with a killing: he killed them; Al-A'sha said:
وقيل للناس: حصد، وقوله تعالى: حتى جعلناهم حصيدا خامدين ، من هذا؛ هؤلاء قوم قتلوا نبيا بعث إليهم فعاقبهم الله وقتلهم ملك من ملوك الأعاجم فقال الله تعالى: حتى جعلناهم حصيدا خامدين ، أي كالزرع المحصود.
And it was said to the people: 'Harvest', and His saying: 'Until We made them like harvested, extinguished ones', is from this; these were people who killed a prophet sent to them, so God punished them and a king of the foreign kings killed them, so God Almighty said: 'Until We made them like harvested, extinguished ones', meaning like harvested crops.
وفي حديث الفتح: فإذا لقيتموهم غدا أن تحصدوهم حصدا أي تقتلوهم وتبالغوا في قتلهم واستئصالهم، مأخوذ من حصد الزرع؛ وكذلك قوله: يزرعها الله من جنب ويحصدها، ... فلا تقوم لما يأتي به الصرم كأنه يخلقها ويميتها،
And in the Hadith of the Conquest: 'So if you meet them tomorrow, you shall harvest them with a harvest', meaning kill them and go to extremes in killing and eradicating them, taken from harvesting crops; and similarly his saying: 'God plants it from the side and harvests it, ... so it does not stand for what the severing brings, as if He creates it and causes it to die',
وحصد الرجل حصدا؛ حكاه اللحياني عن أبي طيبة وقال: هي لغتنا، قال: وإنما قال هذا لأن لغة الأكثر إنما هو عصد.
And the man harvested with a harvest; Al-Lihyani narrated it from Abu Taybah and said: 'This is our dialect', he said: 'And he only said this because the dialect of most is 'asada'.
والحصد: اشتداد الفتل واستحكام الصناعة في الأوتار والحبال والدروع؛ حبل أحصد وحصد ومحصد ومستحصد؛ وقال الليث: الحصد مصدر الشيء الأحصد، وهو المحكم فتله وصنعته من الحبال والأوتار والدروع.
And Al-Hasd: the intensity of twisting and the perfection of craftsmanship in strings, ropes, and armor; a rope is aḥṣad, ḥaṣd, miḥṣad, and mustaḥṣad; and Al-Layth said: Al-Hasd is the source of the aḥṣad thing, which is its tightly twisted and crafted rope, strings, and armor.
وحبل محصد أي محكم مفتول.
And a maḥṣad rope, meaning tightly twisted.
وحصد، بكسر الصاد، وأحصدت الحبل: فتلته.
And ḥaṣada (with kasr of the sad), and I twisted the rope: I twisted it.
ورجل محصد الرأي: محكمه سديده، على التشبيه بذلك، ورأي مستحصد: محكم؛ قال لبيد:
And a man of maḥṣad opinion: his firm and sound judgment, by analogy; and a mustaḥṣad opinion: firm; Labid said:
واستحصد أمر القوم واستحصف إذا استحكم.
And the people's affair became firm and secure when it became established.
واستحصل الحبل أي استحكم.
And the rope became strong, meaning it became firm.
ويقال للخلق الشديد: أحصد محصد حصد مستحصد؛ وكذلك وتر أحصد: شديد الفتل؛ قال الجعدي:
And for intense creation, it is said: aḥṣad, maḥṣad, ḥaṣd, mustaḥṣad; and similarly an aḥṣad string: intensely twisted; Al-Ja'di said:
واستحصد حبله: اشتد غضبه.
And his rope became strong: his anger intensified.
ودرع حصداء: صلبة شديدة محكمة.
And a ḥaṣdā' armor: hard, strong, and well-made.
واستحصد القوم أي اجتمعوا وتضافروا.
And the people gathered, meaning they came together and supported each other.
والحصاد: نبات ينبت في البراق على نبتة الخافور يخبط للغنم.
And Al-Ḥiṣād: a plant that grows in the plains on the Khafūr plant, which is grazed by sheep.
وقال أبو حنيفة: الحصاد يشبه السبط؛ قال ذو الرمة في وصف ثور وحشي: قاظ الحصاد والنصي الأغيدا
And Abu Hanifa said: Al-Ḥiṣād resembles Al-Sibṭ; Dhu Al-Rummah said in describing a wild bull: 'He spent the summer among Al-Ḥiṣād and the tall Al-Naṣiyy'.
والحصد: نبات أو شجر؛ قال الأخطل:
And Al-Ḥaṣd: a plant or tree; Al-Akhṭal said:
الأزهري: وحصاد البروق حبة سوداء؛ ومنه قول ابن فسوة: كأن حصاد البروق الجعد حائل ... بذفرى عفرناة، خلاف المعذر شبه ما يقطر من ذفراها إذا عرقت بحب البروق الذي جعله حصاده، لأن ذلك العرق يتحبب فيقطر أسود.
Al-Azhari: And the harvest of Al-Burūq is a black seed; and from this is the saying of Ibn Fuswah: 'As if the harvest of the curly Al-Burūq is a streak ... on the flank of a she-camel, contrary to the flank, he likened what drips from her flank when she sweats to the seeds of Al-Burūq which he made his harvest, because that sweat forms into beads and drips black.'
وروي عن الأصمعي: الحصاد نبت له قصب ينبسط في الأرض وريقه على طرف قصبه؛ وأنشد بيت ذي الرمة في وصف ثور الوحش.
And it was narrated from Al-Asma'i: Al-Ḥiṣād is a plant with reeds that spread on the ground and its dew is on the tip of its reeds; and he recited the verse of Dhu Al-Rummah describing a wild bull.
وقال شمر: الحصد شجر؛ وأنشد:
And Shamir said: Al-Ḥaṣd is a tree; and he recited:
فيه حطام من الينبوت والحصد ويروى: والخضد وهو ما تثنى وتكسر وخضد.
Therein is debris from the young plants and Al-Ḥaṣd, and it is narrated: and Al-Khaḍd, which is what is bent and broken and bent.
الجوهري: الحصاد والحصد نبتان، فالحصاد كالنصي والحصد شجر، واحدته حصدة.
Al-Jawhari: Al-Ḥiṣād and Al-Ḥaṣd are two plants; Al-Ḥiṣād is like Al-Naṣiyy, and Al-Ḥaṣd is a tree; its singular is ḥaṣdah.

قال الأزهري: وفي الحديث: وهل يكب الناس على مناخرهم في النار إلا حصائد ألسنتهم؟ أي ما قالته الألسنة وهو ما يقتطعونه من الكلام الذي لا خير فيه، واحدتها حصيدة تشبيها بما يحصد من الزرع إذا جذ، وتشبيها للسان وما يقتطعه من القول بحد المنجل الذي يحصد به.
Al-Azhari said: And in the Hadith: 'And what will cause people to be dragged on their faces into the Fire except the harvests of their tongues?' meaning what the tongues have said, which is what they cut out from speech that has no good in it; its singular is ḥaṣīdah, by analogy to what is harvested from crops when cut, and by analogy of the tongue and what it cuts out from speech to the edge of the sickle with which it is harvested.
وحكى ابن جني عن أحمد بن يحيى: حاصود وحواصيد ولم يفسره، قال ابن سيده: ولا أدري ما هو.
And Ibn Jinni narrated from Ahmad bin Yahya: ḥāṣūd and ḥawāṣīd, and he did not explain it; Ibn Sidah said: And I do not know what it is.
