And it is mutarrad, the thaa was changed to a taa because the thaa is a sister to the taa in voicelessness, and when they were adjacent in articulation, they wanted the action to be from one point, so they changed it to a taa and assimilated it into the taa after it, so that the sound would be of one type, as if when they made the taa of 'watad' silent for ease, they replaced it with the sound of the daal after it, so they said 'wad'.

اثردت الخبز أصله اثتردت على افتعلت، فلما اجتمع حرفان مخرجاهما متقاربان في كلمة واحدة وجب الإدغام، إلا أن الثاء لما كانت مهموسة والتاء مجهورة «4» لم يصح ذلك، فأبدلوا من الأول تاء فأدغموه في مثله، وناس من العرب يبدلون من التاء ثاء فيقولون: اثردت، فيكون الحرف الأصلي هو الظاهر؛

I prepared thareed, its origin is 'ittathrartu' on the pattern 'ifta'altu', and when two letters with close articulation met in one word, assimilation was necessary, except that since the thaa was voiceless and the taa voiced, that was not correct, so they replaced the first with a taa and assimilated it into its like, and some Arabs replace the taa with a thaa, saying: 'athradtu', so the original letter is the apparent one;

ألا يا خبز يا ابنة يثردان، ... أبى الحلقوم بعدك لا ينام

O bread, O daughter of Yathradan, ... the throat refuses to sleep after you.

إن كان مار مورا فكلوه، وإن ثرد فلا.

If it passed through and through, then eat it, but if it is muthrid, then do not.

وقيل: المثرد الذي يذبح ذبيحته بحجر أو عظم أو ما أشبه ذلك، وقد نهي عنه، والمثراد: اسم ذلك الحجر؛

And it is said: the muthrid is one who slaughters his animal with a stone or bone or the like, and it is forbidden, and al-mithrad: is the name of that stone;

وثوب مثرود أي مغموس في الصبغ؛
