And in the naming of the female ass Al-Baydana there are two opinions: the first is that it was named thus for its dwelling in the desert, and the 'noon' is extra, and the majority of linguists hold this view. The second opinion is that it is large-bodied, and the 'noon' is original.
وبيداء: موضع بين مكة والمدينة، قال الأزهري: وبين المسجدين أرض ملساء اسمها البيداء.
And Bayda': a place between Mecca and Medina, Al-Azharī said: And between the two mosques is a smooth land whose name is Al-Bayda'.
