لِعِلْمِ الْأَقْوَامِ أَنِّي مُفَنِّخٌ ... لِهَامِهِمْ، أَرْضُهُ وَأَنْقَخَ بِفَتْحِ الْقَافِ
So that people may know that I am one who breaks ... their skulls, the earth and the dull-witted (with fath al-qaf).
وَالنِّقَاخُ: الْمَاءُ الْبَارِدُ الْعَذْبُ الصَّافِي الْخَالِصُ الَّذِي يَكَادُ يَنْقَخُ الْفُؤَادَ بِبُرْدِهِ
And al-niqakh: the cold, sweet, clear, pure water that almost refreshes the heart with its coolness.
وَقَالَ ثَعْلَبٌ: هُوَ الْمَاءُ الطَّيِّبُ فَقَطْ
And Tha'lab said: It is merely good water.
فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَحْرَمْتُ النِّسَاءَ سِوَاكُمْ، ... وَإِنْ شِئْتَ لَمْ أَطْعَمْ نَقَاخًا وَلَا بُرْدًا
If you wish, I shall forbid women other than you, ... and if you wish, I shall not taste refreshing water nor saliva.
وَالْبُرْدُ هُنَا: الرِّيقُ
And al-burd here: saliva.
وَالنِّقَاخُ الْخَالِصُ وَلَمْ يُعَيِّنْ شَيْئًا
And al-niqakh is the pure, and he did not specify anything.
يُقَالُ هَذَا نِقَاخُ الْعَرَبِيَّةِ أَيْ خَالِصُهَا
It is said, 'This is the essence of Arabic,' meaning its pure part.
النِّقَاخُ الْمَاءُ الْعَذْبُ
Al-niqakh is sweet water.
وَأَحْمَقُ مِمَّنْ يَلْعَقُ الْمَاءَ قَالَ لِي: ... دَعِ الْخَمْرَ وَاشْرَبْ مِنْ نِقَاخٍ مُبَرِّدٍ
And more foolish than one who licks water said to me: ... Leave wine and drink from refreshing, cooling water.
النِّقَاخُ النَّوْمُ فِي الْعَافِيَةِ وَالْأَمْنِ
Al-niqakh is sleep in health and security.
النِّقَاخُ الْمَاءُ الْكَثِيرُ يَنْبَطُهُ الرَّجُلُ فِي الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي لَا مَاءَ فِيهِ
Al-niqakh is abundant water that a man finds in a place where there is no water.
فَقَالَ: هَذَا النِّقَاخُ
And he said: This is al-niqakh.
هُوَ الْمَاءُ الْعَذْبُ الْبَارِدُ الَّذِي يَنْقَخُ الْعَطَشَ أَيْ يَكْسِرُهُ بِبُرْدِهِ
