Ibn al-A'rabi: Al-morookh is jesting. And it was narrated from Aisha, may God be pleased with her: that the Prophet, peace be upon him, was with her one day and was relaxed, so Umar, may God be pleased with him, entered, and he frowned and became stern towards him. When he left, the Prophet, peace be upon him, returned to his former relaxation. She said: I said, O Messenger of God, you were relaxed, but when Umar came, you became tense. She said, he said to me: O Aisha, Umar is not one with whom one jokes; meaning, he does not joke.
وروي عن جابر بن عبد الله قال: كانت امرأة تغني عند عائشة بالدف فلما دخل عمر جعلت الدف تحت رجلها، وأمرت المرأة فخرجت، فلما دخل عمر قال له رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، هل لك يا ابن الخطاب في ابنة أخيك فعلت كذا وكذا؟ فقال عمر: يا عائشة؛ فقال: دع عنك ابنة أخيك. فلما خرج عمر قالت عائشة: أكان اليوم حلالا فلما دخل عمر كان حراما؟ فقال رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم: ليس كل الناس مرخا عليه ؛
And it was narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah, he said: A woman was singing with a tambourine at Aisha's. When Umar entered, she put the tambourine under her leg and ordered the woman to leave. When Umar entered, the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, said to him: Do you want, O son of Al-Khattab, your niece to do such and such? Umar said: O Aisha! He said: Leave your niece alone. When Umar left, Aisha said: Was it permissible today, and when Umar entered it became forbidden? The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, said: Not everyone is easy-going with you;

إذا المرخ لم يور تحت العفار، ... وضن بقدر فلم تعقب
If the marakh does not ignite under the 'ufar, ... And he was stingy with the measure, so it did not result.
وقال أعرابي: شجر مريخ ومرخ وقطف، وهو الرقيق اللين.
And an Arab said: Trees that are marikh, marakh, and qataf, which are thin and soft.
وقالوا: أرخ يديك واسترخ إن الزناد من مرخ؛ يقال ذلك للرجل الكريم الذي لا يحتاج أن تكره أو تلج عليه؛ فسره ابن الأعرابي بذلك؛
And they said: Relax your hands and be relaxed, for the tinder is from marakh; this is said to a generous man who does not need to be coerced or forced upon; Ibn al-A'rabi explained it thus;
والمرخ من العضاه وهو ينفرش ويطول في السماء حتى يستظل فيه؛ وليس له ورق ولا شوك، وعيدانه سلبة قضبان دقاق، وينبت في شعب وفي خشب، ومنه يكون الزناد الذي يقتدح به، واحدته مرخة؛
And al-marakh is from the thorny trees, and it spreads and grows tall in the sky until one can find shade under it; it has no leaves or thorns, and its branches are slender, thin rods, and it grows in valleys and on wood, and from it is the tinder used for striking fire, its singular is marakha;
وقول أبي جندب: فلا تحسبن جاري لدى ظل مرخة؛ ... ولا تحسبنه نقع قاع بقرقر خص المرخة لأنها قليلة الورق سخيفة الظل.
And the saying of Abu Jundub: Do not think my neighbor is under the shade of a marakha; ... Nor think it is the water of a qara' in Qarqar. He specified the marakha because it has few leaves and little shade.
وفي النوادر: عود متيخ ومريخ طويل لين؛
And in al-Nawadir: a long, soft, pliable stick;
والمريخ: السهم الذي يغالى به؛ والمريخ: سهم طويل له أربع قذذ يقتدر به الغلاء؛ قال الشماخ: أرقت له في القوم، والصبح ساطع، كما سطع المريخ شمره الغالي
And al-marikh: is the arrow with which one competes for value; and al-marikh: is a long arrow with four fletchings with which one measures the distance; Al-Shammakh said: I stayed awake for him among the people, and the morning was bright, as the long arrow shot by the valuable one was bright.
أو كمريخ على شريانة أي على قوس شريانة؛
Or like a marikh on a shariyanah, meaning on a shariyanah bow;
والمريخ: سهم يصنعه آل الخفة وأكثر ما يغلون به لإجراء الخيل إذا استبقوا؛
And al-marikh: is an arrow made by the Khiffah tribe, and they most often use it to race horses when they compete;
صب لها في الريح مريخ أشم إنما يريد ذئبا فكنى عنه بالمريخ المحدد، مثله به في سرعته ومضائه؛
He poured for her in the wind a swift marikh. He only means a wolf, so he alludes to it with the sharp marikh, likening it to it in its speed and swiftness;

وقال أبو تراب: سألت أبا سعيد عن المريخ والمريج فلم يعرفهما، وعرف غيره المريخ والمريج: كوكب من الخنس في السماء الخامسة وهو بهرام؛ قال: فعند ذاك يطلع المريخ ... بالصبح، يحكي لونه زخيخ، من شعلة ساعدها النفيخ
And Abu Turab said: I asked Abu Sa'id about al-marikh and al-marij, and he did not know them. Others knew al-marikh and al-marij: a wandering star in the fifth heaven, and it is Bahram (Mars); he said: At that time, al-marikh rises... in the morning, its color resembles a spark, from a flame aided by the blowing.
وأمرخ العجين إمراخا: أكثر ماءه حتى رق.
And I made the dough runny (imrakhan): I increased its water until it became thin.
ومرخ العرفج مرخا، فهو مرخ: طاب ورق وطالت عيدانه.
And the 'urfuj tree became soft (marakha), so it is soft (marikh): its leaves became good and its branches grew long.
والمرخ: العرفج الذي تظنه يابسا فإذا كسرته وجدت جوفه رطبا.
And al-marakh: is the 'urfuj tree which you think is dry, but when you break it you find its inside moist.
