If you kill him, you will stir up a sedition from which much will arise; as some have said: I see a sedition that has stirred, laid eggs, and hatched, and if left, its young would fly to it.
ويقال أفرخت البيضة إذا خلت من الفرخ وأفرختها أمها
And the egg is said to have hatched when it is empty of the chick, and its mother hatched it.
يا أهل الشام، تجهزوا لأهل العراق فإن الشيطان قد باض فيهم وفرخ
O people of Sham, prepare for the people of Iraq, for Satan has laid eggs among them and hatched.
الفرخ: الدماغ على التشبيه كما قيل له العصفور
The chick: the brain, by analogy, as it is also called the sparrow.
ونحن كشفنا عن معاوية التي هي الأم، تغشى كل فرخ منقنق
And we uncovered from Mu'awiyah that which is the mother, covering every chirping chick.
يعني به الدماغ
He means the brain by it.
والفرخ: الزرع إذا تهيأ للانشقاق بعد ما يطلع؛ وقيل: هو إذا صارت له أغصان؛ وقد فرخ وأفرخ تفريخا
And the chick: the plant when it is ready to split after it emerges; and it was said: it is when it develops branches; and it has sprouted and matured with sprouting.
الزرع ما دام في البذر فهو الحب، فإذا انشق الحب عن الورقة فهو الفرخ؛ فإذا طلع رأسه فهو الحقل
The plant, as long as it is in the seed, it is the grain; when the grain splits into a leaf, it is the sprout; when its head emerges, it is the field.
أنه نهى عن بيع الفروخ بالمكيل من الطعام
That he forbade the sale of young ears of grain by measure of food.
الفروخ من السنبل ما استبانت عاقبته وانعقد حبه وهو مثل نهيه عن المخاضرة والمحاقلة
The young ears of grain are those whose outcome has become clear and whose seeds have formed, and it is like his prohibition of selling unripe fruit and of selling crops in the field.
وأفرخ الأمر وفرخ: استبانت عاقبته بعد اشتباه
And the matter became clear and hatched: its outcome became apparent after uncertainty.
وأفرخ القوم بيضهم إذا أبدوا سرهم؛ يقال ذلك للذي أظهر أمره وأخرج خبره لأن إفراخ البيض أن يخرج فرخه
And the people hatched their eggs when they revealed their secret; this is said of one whose matter is revealed and whose news is brought out, because hatching eggs means the chick emerges.
وفرخ الروع وأفرخ: ذهب الفزع؛ يقال: ليفرخ روعك أي ليخرج عنك فزعك كما يخرج الفرخ عن البيضة؛ وأفرخ روعك يا فلان أي سكن جأشك
And fear departed and was dispelled: the panic went away; it is said: may your fear be dispelled, meaning may your panic leave you as the chick leaves the egg; and your fear has been dispelled, O so-and-so, meaning your heart has calmed.
أفرخ روعك قد وليناك الكوفة
Be reassured, we have appointed you to Kufa.
وأفرخ فؤاد الرجل إذا خرج روعه وانكشف عنه الفزع كما تفرخ البيضة إذا انفلقت عن الفرخ فخرج منها
And the man's heart became calm when his fear left and the panic was removed, just as an egg hatches when it cracks open and the chick emerges from it.
جذلان قد أفرخت عن روعه الكرب
Joyful, distress has departed from his fear.
وقلبه ذو الرمة لمعرفته في المعنى فقال: جذلان قد أفرخت عن روعه الكرب
And Dhu al-Rummah's heart, due to his knowledge of the meaning, said: Joyful, distress has departed from his fear.
وفرخ الرعديد: رعب وأرعد، وكذلك الشيخ الضعيف
And the timid one feared and trembled, and so did the weak old man.
وما رأينا من معشر ينتخوا من شنا إلا فرخوا
And we have not seen a people who are roused from weakness except that they became weak.
معنى فرخوا ضعفوا كأنهم فراخ من ضعفهم؛ وقيل: معناه ذلوا
The meaning of farkhu is they became weak, as if they were chicks due to their weakness; and it was said: their meaning is they became submissive.
إذا سمع صاحب الأمة الرعد والطحن فرخ إلى الأرض أي لزق بها يفرخ فرخا
When the slave woman's owner hears thunder and grinding, he falls to the ground, clinging to it, becoming weak with weakness.
وفرخ الرجل إذا زال فزعه واطمأن
And the man became calm when his fear left and he was reassured.
والفرخة: السنان العريض
And the farkhah: the broad arrowhead.
والفريخ على لفظ التصغير: قين كان في الجاهلية تنسب إليه النصال الفريخية
And al-Farikh, in the diminutive form: a blacksmith in the pre-Islamic era to whom the Farikhian arrowheads were attributed.
ومنه قول الشاعر: ومقذوذين من بري الفريخ
And from it is the saying of the poet: And two sharp ones from the sharpening of Al-Farikh.
وقولهم: فلان فريخ قريش، إنما هو على وجه المدح كقول الحباب بن المنذر [أنا جذيلها المحكك وعذيقها المرجب]
And their saying: So-and-so is a Farikh of Quraysh, it is only for praise, like the saying of Al-Hubab ibn Al-Mundhir [I am its well-rubbed trunk and its welcomed branch].
والعرب تقول: فلان فريخ قومه إذا كانوا يعظمونه ويكرمونه، وصغر على وجه المبالغة في كرامته
And the Arabs say: So-and-so is a Farikh of his people if they honor and respect him, and the diminutive is used to exaggerate his honor.
وفروخ: من ولد إبراهيم، عليه السلام
And Furukh: from the offspring of Ibrahim, peace be upon him.
يا بني فروخ
O sons of Furukh.
بلغنا أن فروخ كان من ولد إبراهيم، عليه السلام، ولد بعد إسحاق وإسماعيل وكثر نسله ونما عدده فولد العجم الذين هم في وسط البلاد
We have been informed that Furukh was from the offspring of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, born after Isaac and Ishmael, and his progeny increased and his numbers grew, so he fathered the non-Arabs who are in the middle of the lands.
فإنه جعله أعجميا فلم يصرفه لمكان العجمة والتعريف
For he made him a non-Arab and did not decline him due to his foreignness and definiteness.
