Ibn Saydah said: And I see the last [plural] as if it were feminine; Kathir 'Azzah said: As if the reeds of the maran were beneath her cheeks... gazelles of the high ground, upon which were hung the wusha'ih.
ووشحتها توشيحا فتوشحت هي أي لبسته
And I adorned her with an adornment, and she wore it, meaning she put it on.
وتوشح الرجل بثوبه وبسيفه، وقد توشحت المرأة واتشحت
And the man wrapped himself with his garment and his sword, and the woman wore the wushah and wrapped herself.
الجوهري: الوشاح ينسج من أديم عريضا ويرصع بالجواهر وتشده المرأة بين عاتقيها وكشحيها
Al-Jawhari said: The wushah is woven from leather, wide, and studded with jewels, and the woman fastens it between her shoulders and her sides.
والتوشح أن يتشح بالثوب، ثم يخرج طرفه الذي ألقاه على عاتقه الأيسر من تحت يده اليمنى، ثم يعقد طرفيهما على صدره
And al-tashshuh is to wrap oneself with a garment, then bring out the end that was thrown over the left shoulder from under the right hand, then tie their ends on the chest.
وقد أشحه الثوب
And the garment wrapped him.
قال معقل بن خويلد الهذلي: أبا معقل، إن كنت أشحت حلة، ... أبا معقل، فانظر بنبلك من ترمي
Ma'qil ibn Khuwailid al-Hudhali said: O Abu Ma'qil, if you have wrapped yourself in a garment, ... O Abu Ma'qil, then look with your arrow at whom you aim.
أبو منصور: التوشح بالرداء مثل التأبط والاضطباع، وهو أن يدخل الثوب من تحت يده اليمنى فيلقيه على منكبه الأيسر كما يفعل المحرم
Abu Mansur said: Wrapping oneself with a cloak is like al-ta'abbub and al-idhtiba', which is to pass the garment under the right hand and cast it over the left shoulder, as the pilgrim does.
وكذلك الرجل يتوشح بحمائل سيفه فتقع الحمائل على عاتقه اليسرى وتكون اليمنى مكشوفة
And likewise, a man wraps himself with the straps of his sword, so the straps fall on his left shoulder and the right remains uncovered.
وفي الحديث: أنه كان يتوشح بثوبه أي يتغشى به، والأصل فيه من الوشاح
And in the Hadith: He used to wrap himself with his garment, meaning to cover himself with it, and its origin is from the wushah.
وفي حديث عائشة: كان رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، يتوشحني وينال من رأسي أي يعانقني ويقبلني
And in the Hadith of Aisha: The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, would embrace me and reach my head, meaning he would hug me and kiss me.
وفي حديث آخر: لا عدمت رجلا وشحك هذا الوشاح أي ضربك هذه الضربة في موضع الوشاح
And in another Hadith: May you not be deprived of a man who struck you this blow in the wushah area.
قال ابن الأثير: كأن لقوم وشاح ففقدوه فاتهموها به، وكانت الحدأة أخذته فألقته إليهم
Ibn al-Athir said: It is as if a people had a wushah and lost it, so they suspected it (the bird) of it, and the kite took it and threw it to them.
وفيه كان للنبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، درع تسمى ذات الوشاح
And in it, the Prophet, peace be upon him, had a coat of mail called Dhaat al-Wishaah.
والوشاح والوشاحة السيف مثل إزار وإزارة؛ قال أبو كبير الهذلي: مستشعر تحت الرداء وشاحة، ... عضبا غموص الحد غير مفلل
And al-wushah and al-wushahah are the sword, like izar and izarah; Abu Kabir al-Hudhali said: Wearing a sword beneath the cloak, ... a sharp, deep-cutting sword, not dull.
والموشحة من الظباء والشاء والطير: التي لها طرتان من جانبيها
And al-mushahha from gazelles, sheep, and birds: that which has two stripes on its sides.
وديك موشح إذا كان له خطتان كالوشاح؛ قال الطرماح: ونبه ذا العفاء الموشح
And a striped rooster if it has two lines like a wushah; Al-Tirammah said: And awaken the striped one of the barren land.
