It is said: 'rest from the midday heat', 'cool down', 'be still', 'be quiet', 'be calm', and 'cool down' if you command it to cool.
وفاحت الريح الطيبة خاصة فيحا وفيحانا: سطعت وأرجت، وخص اللحياني به المسك؛ ولا يقال: فاحت ريح خبيثة إنما يقال للطيبة، فهي تفيح.
And the good wind, especially, spread and became fragrant; Al-Lihyani specifically mentioned musk for this; it is not said of a bad wind, only of a good one, that it spreads.
وفاحت القدر وأفحتها أنا: غلت.
And the pot boiled, and I made it boil.
وفاح الدم فيحا وفيحانا، وهو فاح: انصب.
And blood flowed, flowing and pouring, and it flowed: it poured out.

وفي حديث أم زرع: وبيتها فياح أي واسع؛
And in the report of Umm Zar'a: and her house is Fayyah, meaning spacious;
اتخذ ربك في الجنة واديا أفيح من مسك ؛
Your Lord has made for you in Paradise a spacious valley of musk;
ولو ملكت الدنيا لفيحتها في يوم واحد أي أنفقتها وفرقتها في يوم واحد.
And if I owned the world, I would spend it all in one day, meaning I would spend and distribute it in one day.
ورجل فياح نفاح: كثير العطايا؛ وإنه لجواد فياح وفياض بمعنى.
And a generous, giving man: abundant in gifts; and he is indeed generous, expansive, and bountiful in meaning.
وفاحت الغارة تفيح: اتسعت.
And the raid spread, expanding.
وفياح مثل قطام: اسم للغارة.
And Fayyah, like Qattām: a name for a raid.
وكان يقال للغارة فيحي فياح، وذلك إذا دفعت الخيل المغيرة فاتسعت؛
And the raid was called 'Fayhi Fayyah', and that is when the raiding horses are driven and expand;
فيحي أي اتسعي عليهم وتفرقي؛
'Fayhi' means spread out against them and disperse;
الغارة هي الخيل المغيرة تصبح حيا نازلين، فإذا أغارت على ناحية من الحي تحرز عظم الحي، لجأوا إلى وزر يلوذون، وإذا اتسعوا وانتشروا أحرزوا الحي أجمع؛
The raid is the attacking horses that descend upon a tribe; if they raid one part of the tribe, the main part of the tribe seeks refuge in a stronghold, and when they expand and spread, they secure the entire tribe;
معنى فيحي انتشري أيتها الخيل المغيرة؛
The meaning of 'Fayhi' is 'spread out, O raiding horses!';
وقيل: معناه اتسعي عليهم يا غارة وخذيهم من كل وجه، وسماها فياح لأنها جماعة مؤنثة خرجت مخرج قطام وحذام وكساب وما أشبهها.
And it was said: its meaning is 'expand against them, O raid, and take them from every direction', and it was named Fayyah because it is a feminine collective noun, following the pattern of Qattām, Hudham, Kassāb, and similar.
والفيح: خصب الربيع في سعة البلاد، والجمع فيوح؛
And al-Fayh: the fertility of spring in the vastness of the land, and the plural is Fayuh;
ترعى السحاب العهد والفيوحا
The clouds graze the covenant and the wide lands
والفتوح والفتوح من الأمطار؛
And al-Futuh and al-Futuḥ are from the rains;
وناقة فياحة إذا كانت ضخمة الضرع غزيرة اللبن؛
And a Fayyah she-camel if she has a large udder and abundant milk;
قد نمنح الفياحة الرفودا، ... تحسبها خالية صعودا
We may milk the large-uddered one, the generous, ... you would think she was empty, ascending.
وفيحان: اسم أرض؛
And Fayhan: the name of a land;
أو رعلة من قطا فيحان حلأها، ... عن ماء يثربة، الشباك والرصد
Or a flock of sandgrouse from Fayhan, kept away, ... from the water of Yathrib, the watchers and the scouts
والفيحاء: حساء مع توابل.
