الصُّبْحُ: أَوَّلُ النَّهَارِ.
The morning: the first part of the day.
وَالصَّبَاحُ: نَقِيضُ المَسَاءِ.
And the morning: the opposite of the evening.
وَالجَمْعُ أَصْبَاحٌ، وَهُوَ الصُّبَيْحَةُ وَالصَّبَاحُ وَالإِصْبَاحُ وَالمُصْبَحُ.
And the plural is 'asbah', and it is 'subayhah', 'sabah', 'isbah', and 'musbah'.
فَالق الإِصْبَاح
The Cleaver of the Dawn
إِذَا قِيلَ الأَمْسَاءُ وَالأَصْبَاحُ، فَهُوَ جَمْعُ المَسَاءِ وَالصُّبْحِ.
If 'al-imsa'' and 'al-asbah' are said, it is the plural of 'al-masa'' and 'al-subh'.
وَأَصْبَحَ القَوْمُ: دَخَلُوا فِي الصَّبَاحِ، كَمَا يُقَالُ: أَمْسَوْا دَخَلُوا فِي المَسَاءِ.
And the people entered the morning: they entered into the morning, just as it is said: they entered the evening.
أَصْبَحُوا بِالصُّبْحِ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْظَمُ لِلأَجْرِ
They entered the morning with the dawn, for it is greater for reward.
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مُصْبِحِينَ وَبِاللَّيْلِ
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning and by night.
وَأَمَّا صَبَّحْنَا وَمَسَّيْنَا فَمَعْنَاهُ أَتَيْنَاهُ صَبَاحًا وَمَسَاءً.
As for 'sabbahna' and 'massayna', their meaning is we came to it in the morning and the evening.
وَيُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلِ يُنَبَّهُ مِنْ سِنَةِ الغَفْلَةِ: أَصْبَحْ أَيْ انْتَبِهْ وَأَبْصِرْ رُشْدَكَ وَمَا يُصْلِحُكَ.
And it is said to the man who is awakened from the sleep of heedlessness: 'Become aware', meaning 'wake up and see your right path and what benefits you'.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ
And the cry seized them in the morning.
وَأَصْبَحَ فُلَانٌ عَالِمًا أَيْ صَارَ.
And so-and-so became knowledgeable, meaning he became.
وَصَبَّحَكَ اللَّهُ بِخَيْرٍ: دُعَاءٌ لَهُ.
And may God greet you with goodness: a prayer for him.
وَصَبَّحْتُهُ أَيْ قُلْتُ لَهُ: عَمْ صَبَاحًا.
And I greeted him, meaning I said to him: 'Good morning'.
وَصَبَّحَ القَوْمَ: أَتَاهُمْ غُدْوَةً.
And he came to the people in the morning: he came to them in the early part of the day.
وَأَتَيْتُهُ صَبَاحَ مَسَاءٍ
And I came to him morning and evening.
وَأَتَيْتُهُ أَصْبُوحَةَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَأَمْسِيَةَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ.
And I came to him every morning and every evening.
صَبَّحْنَاهُمْ بِأَلْفٍ مِنْ سُلَيْمٍ
We attacked them in the morning with a thousand from Sulaym.
نَحْنُ صَبَّحْنَا عَامِرًا فِي دَارِهَا
We came to 'Amir in their dwelling in the morning.
وَأَرَادَ بِقَوْلِهِ أَصْبَحَ القَوْمُ: دَنَا وَقْتُ دُخُولِهِمْ فِي الصَّبَاحِ.
And by his saying 'the people became', he meant: the time of their entering into the morning approached.
وَالصَّبْحَةُ وَالصُّبْحَةُ: نَوْمُ الغَدَاةِ.
And the morning sleep and the morning sleep: sleep taken in the early morning.
وَفِي الحَدِيثِ: أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنِ الصُّبْحَةِ وَهِيَ النَّوْمُ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ لِأَنَّهُ وَقْتُ الذِّكْرِ، ثُمَّ وَقْتُ طَلَبِ الكَسْبِ.
And in the Hadith: that he forbade the morning sleep, which is sleeping at the beginning of the day because it is the time for remembrance, then the time for seeking livelihood.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ أُمِّ زَرْعٍ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: وَعِنْدَهُ أَقُولُ فَلَا أَقْبَحُ وَأَرْقُدُ فَأَتَصَبَّحُ.
And in the narration of Umm Zar', she said: And with him I speak and do not speak ill, and I sleep and take my morning sleep.
وَالمِصْبَاحُ مِنَ الإِبِلِ: الَّذِي يَبْرُكُ فِي مَعْرِسِهِ فَلَا يَنْهَضُ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ وَإِنْ أُثِيرَ.
And the 'misbah' from the camels: the one that kneels in its resting place and does not rise until morning, even if disturbed.
وَالصَّبُوحُ: كُلُّ مَا أُكِلَ أَوْ شُرِبَ غَدْوَةً، وَهُوَ خِلَافُ الغَبُوقِ.
And the morning meal: everything eaten or drunk in the early part of the day, and it is the opposite of the evening meal.
وَالصَّبُوحُ مِنَ اللَّبَنِ: مَا حُلِبَ بِالغَدَاةِ.
And the morning drink from milk: what is milked in the early morning.
وَالصَّبُوحُ وَالصَّبُوحَةُ: النَّاقَةُ المَحْلُوبَةُ بِالغَدَاةِ.
And the morning drink and the morning drink: the she-camel milked in the early morning.
وَالصَّبُوحُ: مَا شُرِبَ بِالغَدَاةِ فَمَا دُونَ القَائِلَةِ وَفِعْلُكَ الإِصْطِبَاحُ.
And the morning drink: what is drunk in the early morning up to before the midday nap, and your action is 'istibah'.
وَاصْطَبَحَ القَوْمُ: شَرِبُوا الصَّبُوحَ.
And the people drank the morning beverage: they drank the morning drink.
وَصَبَّحَهُ: سَقَاهُ صَبُوحًا، فَهُوَ مُصْطَبِحٌ.
And he gave him a morning drink: he gave him a morning drink, so he is one who drinks a morning drink.
وَمَا لَنَا صَبِيٌّ يَصْطَبِحُ
And we do not have a child who drinks a morning drink.
وَيُقَالُ: صَبَّحْتُ فُلَانًا أَيْ نَاوَلْتُهُ صَبُوحًا مِنْ لَبَنٍ أَوْ خَمْرٍ.
And it is said: I gave so-and-so a morning drink, meaning I gave him a morning drink of milk or wine.
أَكَذَبُ مِنَ الآخِذِ الصُّبْحَانِ
More deceitful than the one who takes the well-fed young camel.
وَالمَصْدَرُ الصَّبْحُ، بِالتَّحْرِيكِ.
And the verbal noun is 'as-sabah', with vowelization.
أَعَنْ صَبُوحٍ تُرَقِّقُ؟
Are you softening with a morning drink?
وَرَجُلٌ صُبْحَانٌ وَامْرَأَةٌ صُبْحَى: شَرِبَا الصَّبُوحَ مِثْلَ سَكْرَانَ وَسَكْرَى.
And a man 'subhan' and a woman 'subha': they drank the morning beverage like 'sakran' and 'sakra'.
مَا لَمْ تَصْطَبِحُوا أَوْ تَغْتَبِقُوا أَوْ تَحْتَفُوا بَقَلًا فَشَأْنُكُمْ بِهَا
Unless you have a morning drink, or an evening drink, or you graze on greens, then it is up to you regarding it.
يُجْزِي مِنَ الضَّارُورَةِ صَبُوحٌ أَوْ غَبُوقٌ
A morning drink or an evening drink suffices out of necessity.
وَصَبُوحُ النَّاقَةِ وَصَبِيحَتُهَا: قَدْرُ مَا يُحْتَلَبُ مِنْهَا صُبْحًا.
And the morning milk of the she-camel and its morning milk: the amount that is milked from it in the morning.
وَلَقِيتُهُ ذَاتَ صُبْحَةٍ وَذَا صَبُوحٍ
And I met him in the morning and when he drank the morning beverage.
وَصَبَّحَ القَوْمَ شَرًّا يُصْبِحُهُمْ صُبْحًا: جَاءَهُمْ بِهِ صَبَاحًا.
And he brought evil upon the people in the morning, bringing it to them in the morning: he came to them with it in the morning.
وَصَبَّحَتْهُمُ الخَيْلُ وَصَبَّحَتْهُمُ: جَاءَتْهُمْ صُبْحًا.
And the horses came upon them and came upon them: they came to them in the morning.
أَنَّهُ صَبَّحَ خَيْبَرَ أَيْ أَتَاهَا صَبَاحًا.
That he attacked Khaybar, meaning he came to it in the morning.
كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مُصَبِّحٌ فِي أَهْلِهِ، ... وَالمَوْتُ أَدْنَى مِنْ شِرَاكِ نَعْلِهِ
Every man is in the morning with his family, ... and death is closer than the strap of his sandal.
وَيَوْمُ الصَّبَاحِ: يَوْمُ الغَارَةِ.
And the day of the raid: the day of the raid.
يَا صَبَاحَاهْ
Oh, morning!
وَصَبَّحَ الإِبِلَ يُصْبِحُهَا صُبْحًا: سَقَاهَا غَدْوَةً.
And he watered the camels in the morning, watering them in the morning: he gave them to drink in the early morning.
وَصَبَّحَ القَوْمُ المَاءَ: وَرَدَهُ بِهِمْ صَبَاحًا.
And the people brought the water in the morning: he brought them to it in the morning.
الصَّابِحُ: الَّذِي يُصْبِحُ إِبِلَهُ المَاءَ أَيْ يَسْقِيهَا صَبَاحًا.
The one who waters in the morning: the one who brings his camels to the water in the morning, meaning he waters them in the morning.
وَتِلْكَ السُّقْيَةُ تُسَمِّيهَا العَرَبُ الصَّبْحَةَ.
And that watering is called by the Arabs 'as-sabhah'.
وَلَا يَحْسِرْ صَابِحُهَا
And its morning waterer shall not tire.
وَصَبَّحْتُ القَوْمَ تَصْبِيحًا إِذَا أَتَيْتَهُمْ مَعَ الصَّبَاحِ.
And I came to the people in the morning, meaning I came to them with the morning.
وَغَدَاةَ صَبَّحْنَ الجِفَارَ عَوَابِسًا
And on a morning when they came to the open plains, frowning.
وَقُرِّبَ إِلَى الصِّبْيَانِ تَصْبِيحُهُمْ فَيَخْتَلِسُونَ وَيَكِفُّ
And their morning meal was brought to the boys, and they would snatch and be satisfied.
وَالصَّبُوحُ: الغَدَاءُ، وَالغَبُوقُ: العَشَاءُ.
And the morning meal: the breakfast, and the evening meal: the dinner.
