قال أبو عمرو: الجحجح الفسل من الرجال؛ وأنشد:
Abū ʿAmr said: Al-juḥjuḥ is the fool among men; and he recited:
لا تعلقي بجحجح حيوس، ... ضيقة ذراعه يبوس
Do not cling to a foolish, weak man... whose arm is narrow and he kisses.
وجحجح عنه: تأخر.

حتى رأى رأيهم فجحجحا

والجحجحة: النكوص، يقال: حملوا ثم جحجحوا أي نكصوا.

والله إنها لعقوبة فما أدري أمستأصلة أم مجحجحة؟ أي كافة.

يقال: جحجحت عليه وحجحجت، وهو من المقلوب.
It is said: jحجحت upon him and ḥجحجت, and it is from the inverted forms.
وجحجح الرجل: عدد وتكلم؛ قال رؤبة:
And the man jحجح: he counted and spoke; Ru'bah said:
ما وجد العداد، فيما جحجحا، ... أعز منه نجدة، وأسمحا
He did not find in counting, what he jحجح, more honorable than him in valor and generosity.
والجحجحة: الهلاك.
And al-juḥjuḥah: destruction.
