الليث: الهرج القتال والاختلاط، وأصل الهرج الكثرة في الشيء؛
Al-Layth said: Al-harj is fighting and mixing, and the origin of al-harj is abundance in a thing;
ومن قولهم في الجماع: بات يهرجها ليلته جمعاء.
And from their saying regarding intercourse: He spent the entire night having intercourse with her.
والهرج: كثرة النكاح.
And al-harj is abundance of marriage.
إنما هم هرجا مرجا ؛ الهرج: كثرة النكاح.
They are only in a state of excessive union; al-harj is abundance of marriage.
