And Al-Hasan's saying about Ibn Abbas: He was muthaj, meaning he poured out speech abundantly; he likened his eloquence and the abundance of his speech to gushing water.
وَالمِثَجُّ، بِالكَسْرِ، مِنْ أَبْنِيَةِ المُبَالِغَةِ.
And al-mithj, with kasra, is from the patterns of exaggeration.

And Ibn Sidah, Abu Hanifa: Al-thajjah is land without trees, where people come and dig basins in it, and it is named thajjah because of the basins.
وَقَالَ الأَزْهَرِيُّ عَقِيبَ تَرْجَمَةِ ثُوجَ: أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ الثَّجَّةُ الأَقْنَةُ، وَهِيَ حُفْرَةٌ يَحْتَفِرُهَا مَاءُ المَطَرِ؛
And Al-Azhari said after the entry 'thwj': Abu Ubaid said Al-thajjah is al-aqnah, which is a pit dug by rainwater;
وَقَالَ شَمِرٌ: الثَّجَّةُ، بِفَتْحِ الثَّاءِ وَتَشْدِيدِ الجِيمِ، الرَّوْضَةُ الَّتِي حُفِرَتِ الحِيَاضُ، وَجَمْعُهَا ثَجَّاتٌ؛ سُمِّيَتْ بِذَلِكَ لِثَجِّهَا المَاءَ فِيهَا.
And Shamir said: Al-thajjah, with fatha on the thaa and shadda on the jeem, is a meadow where basins have been dug, and its plural is thajjat; it is so named because of its pouring water into it.
