And a man is rā'ith, with shadda, meaning slow; from Ibn al-A'rābī.

ليهنئ تراثي لامرئ، غير ذلة، ... صنابر أحدان، لهن حفيف سريعات موت، ريثات إقامة، ... إذا ما حملن، حملهن خفيف
May my inheritance be a joy to a man, not disgraced, ... swift spears, with a rustling sound, quick to die, slow to settle... when they carry, their load is light.
والاستراثة: الاستبطاء.
And al-istirātha: seeking delay.
واستراثه: استبطأه.
And istarāthahu: he sought to delay him.
واستريثته: استبطأته.
And istaraythtuhu: I sought to delay him.
وفي الحديث: كان إذا استراث الخبر، تمثل بقول طرفة: ويأتيك بالأخبار من لم تزود
And in the Hadith: When he sought delay in the news, he recited the saying of Ṭarafah: And news comes to you from one who did not provide for you.
وريث عما كان عليه: قصر؛ وريث أمره كذلك.
And he fell short of what he was upon; and his matter was thus delayed.
ونظر القناني إلى بعض أصحاب الكسائي فقال: إنه ليريث النظر؛ وفي بعض الروايات: إنه ليريث إلي النظر.
And al-Qannānī looked at some of al-Kisā'ī's companions and said: He has slowness of sight; and in some narrations: He has slowness in looking towards me.
الفراء: رجل مريث العينين إذا كان بطيء النظر.
Al-Farra': A man with muryth eyes if he is slow in looking.
وما فعل كذا إلا ريث ما فعل كذا؛ وقال اللحياني عن الكسائي والأصمعي: ما قعدت عنده إلا ريث أعقد شسعي، بغير أن، ويستعمل بغير ما ولا أن؛ وأنشد الأصمعي لأعشى باهلة:
And he did not do such-and-such except for a short while before he did such-and-such; and al-Lihyānī said from al-Kisā'ī and al-Aṣma'ī: I did not sit with him except for the time it took me to tie my sandal strap, without 'an', and it is used without 'mā' and 'an'; and al-Aṣma'ī recited for A'shā Bāhilah:
لا يصعب الأمر إلا ريث يركبه، ... وكل أمر، سوى الفحشاء، يأتمر
No matter is difficult except for a short while until one rides it... And every matter, except indecency, is commanded.
وهي لغة فاشية في الحجاز؛ يقولون: يريد يفعل أي أن يفعل؛ قال ابن الأثير: وما أكثر ما رأيتها واردة في كلام الشافعي.
And it is a widespread language in Hijaz; they say: 'He wants to do' meaning 'he intends to do'; Ibn al-Athīr said: And how often I have seen it appearing in the speech of al-Shāfi'ī.
ويقال: ما قعد فلان عندنا إلا ريث أن حدثنا بحديث ثم مر، أي ما قعد. إلا قدر ذلك؛ قال الشاعر يعاتب فعل نفسه:
And it is said: So-and-so did not sit with us except for the time he told us a story and then left, meaning he did not sit. Except for that amount of time; the poet said, chiding himself:
لا ترعوي الدهر إلا ريث أنكرها، ... أنثو بذاك عليها، لا أحاشيها
You do not refrain from time except for a short while until you deny it... They made it feminine because of that, I do not exclude them.
وفي الحديث: فلم يلبث إلا ريثما قلت ؛ أي إلا قدر ذلك؛ وقول معقل بن خويلد:
And in the Hadith: He did not stay except for the time it took you to say it; meaning, except for that amount of time; and the saying of Ma'qil ibn Khuwailid:
لعمرك لليأس، غير المريث، ... خير من الطمع الكاذب
By your life, hopelessness, not the slow kind, is better than false greed.
قال: يجوز أن يكون أراث لغة في راث، ويجوز أن يكون أراد المريث المرء؛ فحذف.
He said: It is permissible that 'arātha' is a dialectal variant of 'rātha', and it is permissible that he intended 'al-murīth al-mar' (the slow person); so he omitted it.
وريثة: اسم منهلة «1» من المناهل التي بين المسجدين.
And Ruythah: The name of a watering place from the watering places between the two holy mosques.
وريث: أبو حي من قيس، وهو ريث بن غطفان بن سعد بن قيس عيلان.
And Ruyth: The father of a clan from Qays, and he is Ruyth ibn Ghaṭfān ibn Sa'd ibn Qays 'Aylān.
