وأما الحاء فبعيدة من الثاء، وبينهما تفاوت يمنع من قلب إحداهما إلى أختها.

وحثثه تحثيثا، وحثحثه، بمعنى.

And the bird urges its wings in flight: it moves them;
يبادر جنح الليل، فهو مهابد، يحث الجناح بالتبسط والقبض وما ذقت حثاثا ولا حثاثا أي ما ذقت نوما.
He hastens the wing of the night, so he is a glider, urging the wing with extension and contraction, and I did not taste 'hathath' or 'hathath', meaning I did not taste sleep.
وما اكتحلت حثاثا وحثاثا، بالكسر، أي نوما.
And I did not apply kohl 'hathathah' and 'hathathah', with kasra, meaning sleep.
وهو بالفتح أصح؛ أنشد ثعلب: ولله ما ذاقت حثاثا مطيتي، ... ولا ذقته، حتى بدا وضح الفجر
And it is more correct with fatha; Tha'lab recited: By God, my mount did not taste 'hathath', ... nor did I taste it, until the brightness of dawn appeared.
وما كحلت عيني بحثاث أي بنوم.
And I did not apply kohl to my eyes with 'hathath', meaning with sleep.
وقال الزبير: الحثحاث والحثحوث: النوم: وأنشد:
And Al-Zubayr said: 'Al-hathhath' and 'al-hathhuth': sleep: and he recited:
ما نمت حثحوثا، ولا أنامه ... إلا على مطرد زمامه
I did not sleep 'hathhuthah', nor did I sleep ... except on a galloping horse whose reins are pulled.
وقال زيد بن كثوة: ما جعلت في عيني حثاثا؛ عند تأكيد السهر.
And Zayd ibn Kathwah said: I did not put 'hathath' in my eyes; emphasizing wakefulness.
وحثث الرجل إذا نام.
And a man 'haththath' if he slept.
والحثاثة، بالكسر: الحر والخشونة يجدها الإنسان في عينيه.
And 'al-hathathah', with kasra: the heat and roughness a person finds in his eyes.

Abu Al-Abbas did not know it.
والحث: الرمل الغليظ اليابس الخشن؛ قال:

حتى يرى في يابس الثرياء حث، ... يعجز عن ري الطلي المرتغث
Until he sees in the dry Thuraiya sand, 'hathth', ... which makes the thirsty lamb unable to drink.
وسويق حث: ليس بدقيق الطحن، وقيل: غير ملتوت؛ وكحل حث، مثله؛ وكذلك مسك حث؛
And 'hathth' gruel: it is not finely ground, and it was said: not mixed; and 'hathth' kohl, similarly; and likewise 'hathth' musk;
إن بأعلاك لمسكا حثا، ... وغلب الأسفل إلا خبثا
Indeed, in your upper part is 'hathth' musk, ... and the lower part prevailed except with impurity.
وعدى غلب هنا، لأن فيه معنى أبى.

ومعناه: أنه كان إذا أخذه وحمله سلح عليه.
And its meaning is: that when he took it and carried it, he defecated on it.

And 'al-huthth', with damma: chaff, rough sand, and dry bread.
وتمر حث: لا يلزق بعضه ببعض، عن ابن الأعرابي؛ قال: وجاءنا بتمر فذ، فض، وحث أي لا يلزق بعضه ببعض.
And 'hathth' dates: they do not stick to each other, from Ibn Al-Arabi; he said: And he brought us dates that were separate, loose, and 'hathth', meaning they did not stick to each other.
والحثحثة: الاضطراب؛ وخص بعضهم به اضطراب البرق في السحاب، وانتخال المطر والبرد والثلج من غير انهمار.

وقيل: الحاء الثانية بدل من إحدى الثاءين.
And it was said: The second 'ha' is a substitute for one of the two 'thas'.
والحثحوث: الداعي بسرعة، وهو أيضا السريع ما كان.

قال ابن سيده: والحثحوث الكتيبة.
