وما أحسن نابتة بني فلان أي ما ينبت عليه أموالهم وأولادهم.

And how good is the 'nabita' of so-and-so's family, meaning what their wealth and children grow upon.

وإن بني فلان لنابتة شر.

And indeed the offspring of so-and-so are a source of evil.

أتيت رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: نويبتة، فقلت: يا رسول الله، نويبتة خير، أو نويبتة شر؟

I came to the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, and he said: A small new thing, and I said: O Messenger of God, is it a small new thing of good, or a small new thing of evil?

And 'al-tanbeet' is a variant pronunciation for 'al-tabteet', which is the cutting of the hump.

والينبوت: شجر الخشخاش؛

And 'al-yanboot' is the poppy tree;

يمده كل واد مترع لجب، ... فيه حطام من الينبوت، والخضد

The 'yanbuta' is like a large apple tree, and its leaves are smaller than apple leaves, and it has a fruit smaller than the hawthorn, intensely black, intensely sweet, and it has pits that are placed on scales.

رجل خبيت نبيت إذا كان خسيسا فقيرا، وكذلك شيء خبيث نبيث.

A 'khabeet nabit' man if he is base and poor, and likewise a base, poor thing.

وإنه لفي منبت صدق أي في أصل صدق، جاء عن العرب بكسر الباء، والقياس منبت، لأنه من نبت ينبت،

And indeed he is of a noble origin, meaning of a true root, it came from the Arabs with a kasra on the 'ba', and the standard is 'manbat', because it is from 'nabata' which 'yanbutu',

أنتم أهل بيت أو نبت؟ فقالوا: نحن أهل بيت وأهل نبت أي نحن في الشرف نهاية.

Are you people of a house or of 'nabt'? They said: We are people of a house and people of 'nabt', meaning we are at the peak of nobility.
