وقول مقتوت: مكذوب؛

قلت، وقولي عندهم مقتوت أي كذب؛
I said, and my saying among them is muqtat, meaning a lie;
وقال خالد بن جنبة: القتات الذي يتسمع أحاديث الناس، فيخبر أعداءهم؛
And Khalid bin Junbah said: Al-qattat is one who eavesdrops on people's conversations, and informs their enemies;
وقيل: هو الذي يكون مع القوم يتحدثون فينم عليهم؛
And it was said: he is one who is with a group talking and then slanders them;
وقيل: هو الذي يتسمع على القوم، وهم لا يعلمون فينم عليهم.
And it was said: he is one who eavesdrops on people, while they are unaware, and then slanders them.
وامرأة قتاتة، وقتوت: نموم.

أبو زيد: يقال هو حسن القد، وحسن القت، بمعنى واحد؛

وقيل: المقتت الذي فيه الرياحين، يطبخ بها الزيت بحتا، لا يخالطه طيب؛
And it was said: Al-muqtat is that which contains aromatics, the oil is cooked with them purely, without mixing any other perfume;
وقيل: هو الذي تطبخ فيه الرياحين حتى تطيب ريحه، ويتعالج به للرياح.
And it was said: it is that in which aromatics are cooked until its scent becomes pleasant, and it is used for treating wind ailments.
والتقتيت: جمع الأفاويه كلها في القدر وطبخها؛
And at-taqtīt: is gathering all the aromatics in the pot and cooking them;
ولا يقال قتت، إلا الزيت، على هذه الصفة؛
And qattata is not said, except for oil, with this description;
وقتة: اسم أم سليمان بن قتة: نسب إلى أمه.
