يقال: الزم هذا السمت

It is said: Stick to this path.

والتعسف: السير على غير علم، ولا أثر

And at-ta'assuf: traveling without knowledge, and without a trace.

وسمت يسمت، بالضم، أي قصد

وقال الأصمعي: يقال تعمده تعمدا، وتسمته تسمتا إذا قصد نحوه

And Al-Asma'i said: It is said 'ta'ammadahu ta'ammudan', and 'tassammatahu tassammutan' if he intended towards it.

وقال شمر: السمت تنسم القصد

And Shamir said: As-samt is seeking out the intention.

إلا أنني أسمت أي ألزم سمت الطريق ؛ يعني قصده

والتسميت: ذكر الله على الشيء؛ وقيل: التسميت ذكر الله، عز وجل، على كل حال

And at-tasmeet: mentioning Allah upon a thing; and it was said: at-tasmeet is mentioning Allah, the Exalted, in all circumstances.

An-Nadr bin Shumayl said: At-tasmeet is praying for blessings, saying: May Allah bless him.
