والزفت: غير القير الذي تقير به السفن، إنما هو شيء أسود أيضا، تمتن به الزقاق للخمر والخل، وقير السفن ييبس عليه، وزفت الحميت لا ييبس؛
And az-zift: is different from the pitch with which ships are tarred; it is also something black, with which skins are strengthened for wine and vinegar, and the pitch of ships dries on it, but the pitch of al-hamit does not dry;
والزفت: شيء يخرج من الأرض، يقع في الأودية، وليس هو ذلك الزفت المعروف.
And az-zift: is something that comes out of the earth, found in valleys, and it is not that well-known pitch.
زفت فلان في أذن الأصم الحديث زفتا، وكته كتا، بمعنى.
