Al-Ahmar said: 'Al-hamit' is the hairy waterskin in which ghee, honey, and oil are placed.

الجوهري: الحميت الزق الذي لا شعر عليه، وهو للسمن.

Al-Jawhari: 'Al-hamit' is the waterskin that has no hair on it, and it is for ghee.

قال ابن السكيت: فإذا جعل في نحي السمن الرب، فهو الحميت، وإنما سمي حميتا، لأنه متن بالرب.

Ibn al-Sukkit said: If 'rab' is put into the 'nahy' of ghee, it is 'al-hamit', and it is only named 'hamit' because it became firm with 'rab'.

وفي حديث أبي بكر، رضي الله عنه: فإذا حميت من سمن ؛ قال: هو النحي والزق.
