Its ravines are trodden: meaning they have been crushed, and walked upon, and their vegetation eaten.
شيب المبارك، قد ابيضت من الجدوبة.

كن أمهاتي يواظبنني على خدمته أي يحملنني ويبعثنني على ملازمة خدمته، والمداومة عليها،
My mothers used to urge me to serve him, meaning they would carry me and send me to persistently serve him, and to continue in it,
وأرض موظوبة، وروضة موظوبة: تدوولت بالرعي، وتعهدت حتى لم يبق فيها كلأ، ولشد ما وطئت.
And a depleted land, and a depleted pasture: they have been continuously grazed and tended until no grass remains in them, and how much they have been trodden.
واد موظوب: معروك.

And a man is 'muwzob' if misfortunes have successively afflicted his wealth;

والمجدوب: المجدب، ويقال: المعيب، من قولهم جدبته أي عبته.
And 'al-majzub': barren, and it is said: defective, from their saying 'jadabtuhu' meaning 'I defected it'.
والمدافع: مواضع السيل.
And 'al-madaafi': the places of the flood.
درست أي دقت، يعني مدافع الماء إلى الأودية، التي هي منابت العشب، قد جفت وأكل نبتها، وصار ترابها هابيا.
They are worn down, meaning crushed, referring to the watercourses to the valleys, which are the places where grass grows, they have dried up and their vegetation has been eaten, and their soil has become dusty.
