A container like a 'shakwah' for ghee is called an 'akkah', and like a 'badrah' is called a 'mas'ad'.

وفي حديث أم زرع: خرج أبو زرع، والأوطاب تمخض، ليخرج زبدها. — And in the Umm Zar' hadith: Abu Zar' went out, and the milk skins were being churned, to extract their butter.

And 'I will scatter your watab' means 'I will dispel your arrogance and pride', and this is a proverb.

And a 'watba'' woman: large-breasted, likened to a 'watab' as if she carries a 'watab' of milk;

ويقال للرجل إذا مات أو قتل: صفرت وطابه أي فرغت وخلت؛

And it is said of a man when he dies or is killed: 'his watab is empty', meaning it is vacant and void;

وقيل: إنهم يعنون بذلك خروج دمه من جسده؛

And it is said: they mean by that the exit of his blood from his body;

And it is said: the meaning of 'sufira al-watab' is that its skins became empty of the milk that was stored in them because its herds were raided, so no milking animals remained.

وجعل الوطب بمنزلة الجسد فصار خلو الجسد من الروح كخلو الوطب من اللبن؛

And he made the 'watab' equivalent to the body, so the emptiness of the body from the soul became like the emptiness of the 'watab' from milk;

ومننه قول تأبط شرا: أقول لجنان، وقد صفرت لهم ... وطابي، ويومي ضيق الحجر معور

And from it is the saying of Ta'abbata Sharran: I say to my heart, when my watab has become empty for them... and my day is constricted in its enclosure.

قال ابن سيده: لا أدري أهو محذوف الفاء أم محذوف اللام، فإن كان محذوف الفاء، فهو من الوطب، وإن كان محذوف اللام، فهو من طبيت وطبوت أي دعوت، والمعروف الطبة، بتشديد الباء، وهو مذكور في موضعه.

Ibn Saydah said: I do not know if it is missing the 'fa' or missing the 'lam'. If it is missing the 'fa', it is from 'al-watab'. If it is missing the 'lam', it is from 'tabaytu wa tabawt' meaning 'I called'. The known form is 'al-tabbah', with a doubled 'ba', and it is mentioned in its place.

وفي حديث عبد الله بن بسر: نزل رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، على أبي، فقربنا إليه طعاما، وجاءه بوطبة، فأكل منها ؛

And in the hadith of Abdullah bin Busr: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stayed with my father, so we brought him food, and brought him a 'watbah', and he ate from it;

قال ابن الأثير: روي الحميدي هذا الحديث في كتابه: فقربنا إليه طعاما ورطبة، فأكل منها ؛ وقال: وهو تصحيف من الراوي، وإنما هو بالواو، قال: وذكره أبو مسعود الدمشقي، وأبو بكر البرقاني في كتابيهما بالواو، وفي آخره قال النضر: الوطبة الحيس يجمع بين التمر والأقط والسمن؛

Ibn al-Athir said: Al-Humaydi narrated this hadith in his book: 'We brought him food and a 'rutbah', and he ate from it.' He said: 'This is a scribal error from the narrator, and it is actually with a 'waw'.' He said: 'Abu Mas'ud al-Dimashqi and Abu Bakr al-Barqani mentioned it in their books with a 'waw', and at the end Al-Nadr said: The 'watbah' is 'al-hays', which combines dates, dried yogurt, and ghee;

ونقله عن شعبة، على الصحة، بالواو؛ قال ابن الأثير: والذي قرأته في كتاب مسلم وطبة، بالواو، قال: ولعل نسخ الحميدي قد كانت بالراء، كما ذكره؛

And he transmitted it from Shu'bah, correctly, with a 'waw'. Ibn al-Athir said: And what I read in the book of Muslim is 'watbah', with a 'waw'. He said: And perhaps Al-Humaydi's copies were with a 'ra', as he mentioned;

وفي رواية في حديث عبد الله بن بسر: أتيناه بوطيئة ، في باب الهمز، وقال: هي طعام يتخذ من التمر، كالحيس، ويروى بالباء الموحدة، وقيل: هو تصحيف.

And in a narration in the hadith of Abdullah bin Busr: 'We brought him a 'wati'ah', in the chapter of hamza, and he said: It is a food made from dates, like 'al-hays', and it is narrated with a 'ba' (b), and it is said: it is a scribal error.
