ويقال: هرب من الوتد نصفه في الأرض أي غاب؛

And it is said: half of it disappeared from the stake in the ground, meaning it was hidden;

ومجنأ كإزاء الحوض منثلما، ... ورمة نشبت في هارب الوتد

And a watering trough like the basin of a watering place, ... and a bone stuck in the fleeing part of the stake

وساح فلان في الأرض وهرب فيها.

وقال بعضهم: أهرب فلان أي أغرق في الأمر.

And some of them said: so-and-so was deeply involved, meaning engrossed in the matter.

ما له هارب ولا قارب أي صادر عن الماء ولا وارد؛

He has neither a departing one nor an approaching one, meaning departing from water and not arriving;

ومعناه ما له شيء، وما له قوم؛

And its meaning is he has nothing, and he has no people;

الهارب الذي صدر عن الماء؛

The one fleeing is he who departed from the water;

والقارب الذي يطلب الماء.

And the one approaching is he who seeks water.

معناه ليس له أحد يهرب منه، ولا أحد يقرب منه أي فليس هو بشيء؛

Its meaning is he has no one to flee from, nor anyone to approach him, meaning he is nothing;

وقيل: معناه ما له بعير يصدر عن الماء، ولا بعير يقرب الماء.

And it was said: its meaning is he has no camel departing from water, nor a camel approaching water.

ما لي ولعيالي هارب ولا قارب غيرها أي ما لي بعير صادر عن الماء، ولا وارد سواها، يعني ناقته.

I have neither a departing camel nor an arriving one for myself and my family except her, meaning I have no camel departing from water, nor arriving, other than her, meaning his she-camel.

هرب الرجل إذا هرم؛

The man fled if he became old;

وأهربت الريح ما على وجه الأرض من التراب والقميم وغيره إذا سفت به.

And the wind blew away what was on the face of the earth of dust, herbage, and other things if it blew with it.

والهرب: الثرب، يمانية.
