Al-Asma'i said: If camels circle around the water trough, and cannot reach the water, due to overcrowding, that is al-lubb.
يقال: تركتها لوائب على الحوض، وإبل لوب، ونخل لوائب، ولوب: عطاش، بعيدة من الماء.
It is said: I left them circling at the trough, and thirsty camels, and thirsty palm trees, and thirsty: far from water.
ابن السكيت: لاب يلوب إذا حام حول الماء من العطش؛ وأنشد: بألذ منك مقبلا لمحلإ ... عطشان، داغش ثم عاد يلوب
Ibn al-Sikkit: He experiences thirst when he circles around water from thirst; and he recited: More pleasant than you approaching a watering place... thirsty, he stirred and then returned to circling.
وألاب الرجل، فهو مليب إذا حامت إبله حول الماء من العطش.
And the man's camels circled, so he is one whose camels circled if his camels circled around water from thirst.
ابن الأعرابي: يقال ما وجد ليابا أي قدر لعقة من الطعام يلوكها؛ قال: واللياب أقل من ملء الفم.
Ibn al-A'rabi: It is said he found no liyab, meaning the amount of a lick of food he could chew; he said: And al-liyab is less than a mouthful.
واللوبة: القوم يكونون مع القوم، فلا يستشارون في خير ولا شر.
And al-luwba: a group of people who are with others, but are not consulted on good or evil.
واللابة واللوبة: الحرة، والجمع لاب ولوب ولابات، وهي الحرار.
And al-labba and al-luwba: the lava field, and the plural is lab, lubb, and labbat, and they are the lava fields.
وفي الحديث: أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، حرم ما بين لابتي المدينة ؛ وهما حرتان تكتنفانها
And in the hadith: The Prophet, peace be upon him, declared forbidden what is between the two lava fields of Medina; and they are two lava fields that surround it.

Ibn al-Athir said: Medina is between two great lava fields; Al-Asma'i said: It is the land covered with black stones, and its plural is labbat, from three to ten, and when they are numerous, they are al-lab and al-lubb; Bishr said, mentioning a battalion: The high ground, they have nothing but the enclosure, ... and the lava field of Layla, the plain part of it is its lubb.
ابن شميل: اللوبة تكون عقبة جوادا أطول ما يكون، وربما كانت دعوة. قال: واللوبة ما اشتد سواده وغلظ وانقاد على وجه الأرض، وليس بالطويل في السماء، وهو ظاهر على ما حوله؛ والحرة أعظم من اللوبة، ولا تكون اللوبة إلا حجارة سودا، وليس في الصمان لوبة، لأن حجارة الصمان حمر، ولا تكون اللوبة إلا في أنف الجبل، أو سقط أو عرض جبل.
Ibn Shumayl: Al-luwba can be a long pass, the longest it can be, and sometimes it is a slope. He said: And al-luwba is what is intensely black and thick and lies on the face of the earth, not tall in the sky, and it is apparent over its surroundings; and al-habba is greater than al-luwba, and al-luwba can only be black stones, and there is no luwba in al-Summan because the stones of al-Summan are red, and al-luwba can only be at the nose of a mountain, or a fall, or a width of a mountain.
وفي حديث عائشة، ووصفت أباها، رضي الله عنهما: بعيد ما بين اللابتين ؛ أرادت أنه واسع الصدر، واسع العطن، فاستعارت له اللابة، كما يقال: رحب الفناء واسع الجناب.
And in the hadith of Aisha, and she described her father, may God be pleased with them: Far between the two lava fields; she meant he was broad-chested, expansive in his domain, so she borrowed the term 'labba' for him, as it is said: spacious courtyard, wide flank.
واللابة: الإبل المجتمعة السود.

واللوب: النحل، كالنوب؛ عن كراع. وفي الحديث: لم تتقيأه لوب، ولا مجته نوب.
And al-lubb: bees, like al-nuwb; from Kara'. And in the hadith: It was not vomited by bees, nor was it stung by bees.
واللوباء، ممدود، قيل: هو اللوبياء؛ يقال: هو اللوبياء، واللوبيا، واللوبياج، وهو مذكر، يمد ويقصر.
And al-lubba', extended, it is said: it is al-lubya; it is said: it is al-lubya, al-lubya, and al-lubyaj, and it is masculine, it is extended and shortened.
والملاب: ضرب من الطيب، فارسي؛ زاد الجوهري: كالخلوق. غيره: الملاب نوع من العطر.

He said: And al-malabba is a bundle of saffron threads; Jarir said, satirizing the women of Banu Namir: And if the women of Banu Namir were trodden upon... on your dung, they would make the earth foul. It is smeared, and it is bad in its origin, ... with the hair of the camel, you would think it was mulab.
وشيء ملوب أي ملطخ به.
And something mulawwab means smeared with it.
ولوب الشيء: خلطه بالملاب؛ قال المتنخل الهذلي: أبيت على معاري واضحات، ... بهن ملوب كدم العباط
And to mix something: to mix it with al-mulab; Al-Mutanakhkhil al-Hudhali said: I spent the night on clear paths, ... with them mulawwab like the blood of the 'abita.
والحديد الملوب: الملوي، توصف به الدرع.
And al-hadid al-mulawwab: the twisted, it is used to describe armor.
