يقال: كب الله عدو المسلمين، ولا يقال أكب.

It is said: May God bring down the enemy of the Muslims, and it is not said 'akkab God'.

فأكبوا رواحلهم على الطريق ، هكذا الرواية؛ قيل والصواب: كبوا أي ألزموها الطريق.

So they made their mounts fall onto the road, this is the narration; it is said the correct reading is 'kabbu', meaning they made them adhere to the road.

يقال: كببته فأكب، وأكب الرجل يكب على عمل عمله إذا لزمه؛

It is said: I made it fall, and it fell; and the man became engrossed in his work, meaning he stuck to it;

كببت القصعة: قلبتها على وجهها، وطعنه فكبه لوجهه كذلك؛

I overturned the platter: I turned it face down, and he stabbed him and overturned him onto his face likewise;

إنكم لتقلبون حولا قلبا إن وقي كبة النار ؛

You are indeed turning around and around, if only you are protected from the intensity of the Fire;

الكبة، بالفتح: شدة الشيء ومعظمه.

ورماهم بكبته أي بجماعته ونفسه وثقله.

And he threw his kabb at them, meaning his group, himself, and his burden.

وكبة الشتاء: شدته ودفعته.

And the kibbah of winter: its intensity and onset.

فلما رأى الناس الميضأة تكابوا عليها أي ازدحموا، وهي تفاعلوا من الكبة، بالضم، وهي الجماعة من الناس وغيرهم.

So when the people saw the ablution place, they crowded upon it, meaning they thronged, and it is a 'tafa'al' verb from al-kubbah, with damma, which is a group of people and others.

إياكم وكبة السوق فإنها كبة الشيطان أي جماعة السوق.

Beware of the crowd of the market, for it is the crowd of Satan, meaning the gathering of the market.

وكبة الغزل: ما جمع منه، مشتق من ذلك.

And the kubbah of yarn: what is gathered from it, derived from that.

إنك لكالبائع الكبة بالهبة؛

Indeed, you are like one who sells the kubbah for a gift;

ويقال عليه كبة وبقرة أي عليه عيال.

And it is said he has a kubbah and a cow, meaning he has dependents.

ونعم كباب إذا ركب بعضه بعضا من كثرته؛

And abundant livestock when some of it rode upon the others due to its quantity;

وتكببت الإبل إذا صرعت من داء أو هزال.

And the camels 'takabbab-ed' if they fell from illness or emaciation.

والكباب: التراب؛ والكباب: الطين اللازب؛ والكباب: الثرى؛

And al-kabab: dust; and al-kabab: sticky mud; and al-kabab: damp earth;

والكباب، بالضم: ما تكبب من الرمل أي تجعد لرطوبته؛

And al-kabab, with damma: what is collected from the sand, meaning it becomes wrinkled due to its moisture;

والمحمل: محمل السيف، شبه عرق الأرطى به.

And it is said: sand 'takabbab-ed' if it is damp and clumps together, and from this the ball of yarn is named.

والكباب: الطباهجة، والفعل التكبيب، وتفسير الطباهجة مذكور في موضعه.

And al-kabab: the 'tabahijah' (a type of plant), and the verb is 'takbib', and the explanation of 'tabahijah' is mentioned in its place.

والكب: ضرب من الحمض، يصلح ورقه لأذناب الخيل، يحسنها ويطولها، وله كعوب وشوك مثل السلج، ينبت فيما رق من الأرض وسهل، واحدته: كبة؛

And al-kabb: a type of sour plant, its leaves are suitable for horse tails, improving and lengthening them, and it has nodes and thorns like a turnip, growing in thin and easy ground, its singular is 'kabbah';

يا إبل السعدي لا تأتبي ... لنجل القاحة، بعد الكب

O camels of Sa'd, do not approach... the offspring of al-Qahah, after the kabb (plant).

أبو عمرو: كب الرجل إذا أوقد الكب، وهو شجر جيد الوقود، والواحدة كبة.

Abu Amr: The man 'kabb-ed' when he lit the kabb, which is a good firewood tree, and the singular is 'kabbah'.

وكب إذا قلب.

And 'kabb' if he overturned.

وكب إذا ثقل.

And 'kabb' if he became heavy.

والمكببة حنطة غبراء، وسنبلها غليظ، أمثال العصافير، وتبنها غليظ لا تنشط له الأكلة.

And al-makbabah is a greyish wheat, and its ear is thick, like sparrows, and its stalk is coarse, so the eater is not eager for it.

وصاح من صاح في الإحلاب وانبعثت، ... وعاث في كبة الوعواع والعير

And whoever shouted in the migration shouted, and set off, ... and caused havoc in the crowd of the 'wa'wa'' and the wild ass.

تعلم أن محملنا ثقيل، ... وأن ذياد كبتنا شديد

Know that our burden is heavy, ... and that the driving away of our crowd is severe.

وفي الحديث: كبكبة من بني إسرائيل أي جماعة.

And in the hadith: a kabkabah from the Children of Israel, meaning a group.

فكبكبوا فيها هم والغاوون ؛ قال الليث: أي دهوروا، وجمعوا، ثم رمي بهم في هوة النار؛

So they and the deviators were thrown down into it; Al-Layth said: meaning they were tumbled, and gathered, then thrown into the pit of Hell;

وقال أهل اللغة: معناه دهوروا، وحقيقة ذلك في اللغة تكرير الانكباب، كأنه إذا ألقي ينكب مرة بعد مرة، حتى يستقر فيها، نستجير بالله منها؛

And the linguists said: its meaning is 'dahuru' (tumbled), and the reality of that in language is the repetition of falling, as if when it is thrown, it falls once after another, until it settles in it, we seek refuge in God from it;

وقيل قوله: فكبكبوا فيها أي جمعوا، مأخوذ من الكبكبة.

And it is said his saying: 'fakabkabū fīhā' means gathered, taken from al-kabkabah.

وكبكب الشيء: قلب بعضه على بعض.

And he kabkab-ed the thing: he turned some of it over onto some of it.

ورجل كباكب: مجتمع الخلق.

And a man who is kabkab: of gathered build.

وجاء متكبكبا في ثيابه أي متزملا.

And he came mutakabkib-ing in his clothes, meaning wrapped up.

وكان ما أساء النار في رأس كبكبا

And whatever evil he did, the fire was on the head of Kabkab.

وقيل: هو ثنية؛ وقد صرفه إمرؤ القيس في قوله: غداة غدوا فسالك بطن نخلة، ... وآخر منهم جازع نجد كبكب

And it is said: it is a mountain pass; and Imru' al-Qays made it diptote in his saying: On the morning they went forth, and you took the belly of Nakhla, ... and another of them crossed the highlands of Kabkab.

وتدفن منه الصالحات، وإن يسئ ... يكن ما أساء النار في رأس كبكبا

And the good deeds are buried from him, and if he does evil... whatever evil he did, the fire was on the head of Kabkab.

ويقال للجارية السمينة: كبكابة وبكباكة.

And a plump girl is called: kabkabah and bakbakah.

وقام السقاة، فناطوها إلى خشب ... على كباب، وحوم حامس برد

And the water-carriers stood, and they tied them to wood... on Kabab, and the hot, cold surroundings.

وقيل: كباب اسم بئر بعينها.

And it is said: Kabab is the name of a specific well.

قبيلة من قيس كبة ساقها، ... إلى أهل نجد، لؤمها وافتقارها

A tribe from Qays Kabbah led it, ... to the people of Najd, their baseness and their poverty.

وكذلك كبكبته.

And likewise he kabkab-ed it (gathered it).
