Were it not for its girth straps and its breastplate, ... the rider would have been thrown off were it not for its saddle,

والسرج حتى قد وهى مضببه وهي الدكين.

And the saddle, even its reinforced parts have weakened, which are the pommel and cantle.

واللجام حدائد قد يشتبك بعضها في بعض، منها العضادتان والمسحل، وهو تحت الذي فيه سير العنان، وعليه يسيل زبد فمه ودمه، وفيه أيضا فأسه، وأطرافه الحدائد الناتئة عند الذقن، وهما رأسا العضادتين؛ والعضادتان: ناحيتا اللجام.

And the bridle is made of iron pieces, some interlocking with others, including the 'adhadatan' and the 'mis'hal', which is under the part where the reins strap is, and upon it flows the foam of its mouth and its blood, and in it is also its bit, and its ends are the protruding iron pieces near the chin, and they are the two heads of the 'adhadatan'; and the 'adhadatan': the two sides of the bridle.

والقيقب الذي في وسط الفأس؛

And al-Qayqab is what is in the middle of the bit.

إني من قومي في منصب، ... كموضع الفأس من القيقب

I am in a high position among my people, ... like the position of the bit in the bridle.

فجعل القيقب حديدة في فأس اللجام.

So he made al-Qayqab a metal piece in the bit of the bridle.

والقيقبان: شجر معروف.

And al-Qayqaban: a known tree.
