And he qataba his face taqṭīban, meaning he frowned and was angry.
وفي الحديث: أنه أتي بنبيذ فشمه فقطب أي قبض ما بين عينيه، كما يفعله العبوس، ويخفف ويثقل.
And in the hadith: He was brought nabidh, so he smelled it and qataba, meaning he contracted what was between his eyes, as the frowner does, and it is said with light and heavy vowels.
وفي حديث العباس: ما بال قريش يلقوننا بوجوه قاطبة؟
And in the hadith of Al-Abbas: What is the matter with Quraysh meeting us with frowning faces?
قال: وقد يجيء فاعل بمعنى مفعول، كعيشة راضية؛ قال: والأحسن أن يكون فاعل، على بابه، من قطب، المخففة.
He said: And 'fa'il' can come with the meaning of 'maf'ul', like 'ayshah raḍiyyah'; he said: And it is better for it to be 'fa'il', in its usual form, from qataba, the lightened one.
وفي حديث المغيرة: دائمة القطوب أي العبوس.
And in the hadith of Al-Mughirah: Constantly frowning, meaning the scowl.
وقطب الشراب يقطبه قطبا وقطبه وأقطبه: كله مزجه؛
And qataba the drink, he yaqṭibuhu qatban, and qattabahu, and aqṭabahu: all of it means mixing it;
ومن هذا يقال: جاء القوم قاطبة أي جميعا، مختلط بعضهم ببعض.
And from this it is said: The people came qāṭibah, meaning all together, mixed with each other.
والقطب: القطع، ومنه قطاب الجيب؛
And al-qutb: cutting, and from it is qutāb al-jayb;
وقطاب الجيب: مجمعه؛
And qutāb al-jayb: its gathering place;

And al-qutb is to insert one of the handles of the saddlebag into the other when packing, then fold it, then bring them together; if it is not folded, it is al-salq;
وقطب الشيء يقطبه قطبا: قطعه.
And qataba the thing, he yaqṭibuhu qatban: he cut it.
والقطابة: القطعة من اللحم، عن كراع.

وأرض قطبة: ينبت فيها ذلك النوع من النبات.

والقطب المنهي عنه: هو أن يأخذ الرجل الشيء، ثم يأخذ ما بقي من المتاع، على حسب ذلك بغير وزن، يعتبر فيه بالأول؛ عن كراع.
