Nearness is the opposite of farness.
قرب الشيء، بالضم، يقرب قربا وقربانا وقربانا أي دنا، فهو قريب، الواحد والاثنان والجميع في ذلك سواء.
When a thing is near, it approaches, with proximity, قربانا, and قربانا, meaning it drew near; it is near, and the singular, dual, and plural are all the same in this regard.
ولو ترى إذ فزعوا فلا فوت وأخذوا من مكان قريب ؛ جاء في التفسير: أخذوا من تحت أقدامهم.
And if you could see when they were seized with terror, and there is no escape, and they are taken from a near place; it is said in the exegesis: they were taken from beneath their feet.
وما يدريك لعل الساعة قريب ؛ ذكر قريبا لأن تأنيث الساعة غير حقيقي؛ وقد يجوز أن يذكر لأن الساعة في معنى البعث.
And what can make you know? Perhaps the Hour is near; it is mentioned as masculine because the feminine of 'Hour' is not real; and it may be masculine because 'Hour' is in the sense of resurrection.
إن قربك زيدا، ولا تقول إن بعدك زيدا، لأن القرب أشد تمكنا في الظرف من البعد؛ وكذلك: إن قريبا منك زيدا، وأحسنه أن تقول: إن زيدا قريب منك، لأنه اجتمع معرفة ونكرة، وكذلك البعد في الوجهين؛
Indeed, your proximity to Zayd, and you do not say 'your farness from Zayd', because proximity is more firmly established in space than farness; and likewise: Indeed, Zayd is near you, and the best is to say: Indeed, Zayd is near you, because a definite and an indefinite noun have come together, and likewise farness in both cases;
هو قرابتك أي قريب منك في المكان؛ وكذلك هو قرابتك في العلم؛
He is your relative, meaning close to you in place; and likewise he is your relative in knowledge;
ما هو بشبيهك ولا بقرابة من ذلك، مضمومة القاف، أي ولا بقريب من ذلك.
He is neither like you nor a relative of that, with a damma on the qaf, meaning not close to that.
يقول الرجل لصاحبه إذا استحثه: تقرب أي اعجل؛
A man says to his companion when urging him: 'تقرب' meaning 'hurry up';
وما قربت هذا الأمر، ولا قربته؛ قال الله تعالى: ولا تقربا هذه الشجرة* ؛ وقال: ولا تقربوا الزنى ؛ كل ذلك من قربت أقرب.
And I did not approach this matter, nor did I approach it; Allah the Almighty said: 'And do not approach this tree'; and He said: 'And do not approach adultery'; all of that is from 'I approached, I approach'.
ويقال: فلان يقرب أمرا أي يغزوه، وذلك إذا فعل شيئا أو قال قولا يقرب به أمرا يغزوه؛
And it is said: So-and-so approaches a matter, meaning he invades it, and that is when he does something or says something by which he approaches a matter he invades;
وفي حديث أبي عارم: فلم يزل الناس مقاربين له أي يقربون حتى جاوز بلاد بني عامر، ثم جعل الناس يبعدون منه.
And in the hadith of Abu 'Aram: The people kept approaching him, meaning they drew near until they passed the lands of Banu 'Amir, then the people began to move away from him.
وافعل ذلك بقراب، مفتوح، أي بقرب؛ عن ابن الأعرابي.
And do that with 'qurab', with a fatha, meaning 'near'; from Ibn al-A'rabi.
إن رحمت الله قريب من المحسنين ؛ ولم يقل قريبة، لأنه أراد بالرحمة الإحسان ولأن ما لا يكون تأنيثه حقيقيا، جاز تذكيره؛
Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good; and He did not say 'near' (feminine), because He intended by mercy benevolence, and because that whose femininity is not real, it is permissible to make it masculine;
هذا ذكر ليفصل بين القريب من القرب، والقريب من القرابة؛
This is a mention to distinguish between the near in terms of distance, and the near in terms of kinship;
كل ما قرب من مكان أو نسب، فهو جار على ما يصيبه من التذكير والتأنيث؛
Everything that is near in place or lineage, it follows what befalls it in terms of masculine and feminine;
إذا كان القريب في معنى المسافة، يذكر ويؤنث، وإذا كان في معنى النسب، يؤنث بلا اختلاف بينهم.
If 'near' is in the sense of distance, it is masculine and feminine; and if it is in the sense of lineage, it is feminine without disagreement among them.
هذه المرأة قريبتي أي ذات قرابتي؛
This woman is my relative, meaning she has my kinship;
هذه قريبتي من النسب، وهذه قريبي من المكان؛
This is my relative from kinship, and this is my near one from place;
له الويل إن أمسى، ولا أم هاشم ... قريب، ولا البسباسة ابنة يشكرا
Woe to him if he spends the evening, and Umm Hashim is not near, nor is al-Basbasah, daughter of Yashkur.
هو قريب، وهي قريب، وهم قريب، وهن قريب.

وقد يجوز قريبة وبعيدة، بالهاء، تنبيها على قربت، وبعدت، فمن أنثها في المؤنث، ثنى وجمع؛
And it is permissible to say 'near' (feminine) and 'far' (feminine), with the 'ha', to indicate 'she was near' and 'she was far', so whoever makes it feminine for the feminine, they dualize and pluralize;
ليالي لا عفراء، منك، بعيدة ... فتسلى، ولا عفراء منك قريب
Nights when Afra was not far from you, so she would be consoled, and Afra is not near you.
اقترب الوعد أي تقارب.
The promise drew near, meaning it approached.
وقاربه في البيع مقاربة.

And the 'qurab' of a thing, and its 'qurabah', and its 'qurabah': what approaches its measure.
إن لقيتني بقراب الأرض خطيئة أي بما يقارب ملأها، وهو مصدر قارب يقارب.
If you meet me with 'qurab al-ard' of sin, meaning with what approaches filling it, and it is the masdar of 'qarab' he approaches.
هو ابن منضجات، كن قدما ... يزدن على العديد قراب شهر
He is the son of those whose birth is delayed, as if they were previously... increasing the count by nearly a month
والقراب أيضا إذا قارب أن يمتلئ الدلو؛
And 'qurab' also when the bucket is close to being full;
إلا تجي ملأى يجي قرابها
Except that it comes full, its fullness approaches.
معه ألف درهم أو قرابه؛
He has a thousand dirhams or its approximation;
ومعه ملء قدح ماء أو قرابه.
And he has a full cup of water or its approximation.
أتيته قراب العشي، وقراب الليل.
I came to him near the evening, and near the night.
وإناء قربان: قارب الامتلاء، وجمجمة قربى: كذلك.
And a 'qurban' vessel: it is close to being full, and a 'qurba' skull: likewise.
أقربت القدح، من قولهم: قدح قربان إذا قارب أن يمتلئ؛
I filled the cup, from their saying: a 'qurban' cup if it is close to being full;
هذا قدح قربان ماء، وهو الذي قد قارب الامتلاء.
This is a 'qurban' cup of water, and it is one that has approached fullness.
لو أن لي قراب هذا ذهبا أي ما يقارب ملأه.
If only I had 'qurab' of this in gold, meaning what approaches its fullness.
والقربان، بالضم: ما قرب إلى الله، عز وجل.
And 'al-qurban', with a damma: what is offered to Allah, the Almighty.
تقربت به، تقول منه: قربت لله قربانا.
I drew near with it, you say from it: I offered to Allah an offering.
تقرب إلى الله بشيء أي طلب به القربة عنده تعالى.
He drew near to Allah with something, meaning he sought proximity to Him, the Exalted, with it.
فلان من قربان الأمير، ومن بعدانه.
So-and-so is from the prince's close attendants, and from his distant ones.
وقرابين الملك: وزراؤه، وجلساؤه، وخاصته.
And the king's 'qarabin': his viziers, his courtiers, and his close associates.
إذ قربا قربانا .
When they both offered an offering.
ألا نؤمن لرسول حتى يأتينا بقربان تأكله النار .
That we should not believe in a messenger until he brings us an offering that is consumed by fire.
وكان الرجل إذا قرب قربانا، سجد لله، فتنزل النار فتأكل قربانه، فذلك علامة قبول القربان، وهي ذبائح كانوا يذبحونها.
And when a man offered an offering, he would prostrate to Allah, then fire would descend and consume his offering, and that was a sign of the acceptance of the offering, and they were sacrifices they used to slaughter.
القربان ما قربت إلى الله، تبتغي بذلك قربة ووسيلة.
'Al-qurban' is what you offer to Allah, seeking by it proximity and a means.
قربانهم دماؤهم.
Their offering is their blood.
الصلاة قربان كل تقي أي إن الأتقياء من الناس يتقربون بها إلى الله تعالى أي يطلبون القرب منه بها.
Prayer is the offering of every pious person, meaning the pious among people draw near to Allah the Almighty with it, meaning they seek proximity to Him with it.
من راح في الساعة الأولى، فكأنما قرب بدنة أي كأنما أهدى ذلك إلى الله تعالى كما يهدى القربان إلى بيت الله الحرام.
Whoever goes in the first hour, it is as if he offered a camel, meaning as if he gifted that to Allah the Almighty as an offering is gifted to the Sacred House of Allah.
الخيل المقربة التي تكون قريبة معدة.
The 'muqarrabah' horses which are prepared and near.
الإبل المقربة التي حزمت للركوب، قالها أعرابي من غني.
The 'muqarrabah' camels which are tied for riding, said by a Bedouin from Ghani.
المقربات من الخيل: التي ضمرت للركوب.
The 'muqarrabat' of horses: those that are trained for riding.
الإبل المقربة التي عليها رحال مقربة بالأدم، وهي مراكب الملوك؛
The 'muqarrabah' camels which have saddles prepared with leather, and they are the mounts of kings;
ما هذه الإبل المقربة؟
What are these 'muqarrabah' camels?
هي التي حزمت للركوب، وأصله من القراب.
They are those that are tied for riding, and its origin is from 'al-qurab'.
المقربة والمقرب من الخيل: التي تدنى، وتقرب، وتكرم، ولا تترك أن ترود؛
The 'muqarrabah' and 'al-muqarrab' of horses: those that are brought near, and approached, and honored, and not left to roam;
أقربت الحامل، وهي مقرب: دنا ولادها، وجمعها مقاريب، كأنهم توهموا واحدها على هذا، مقرابا؛
The pregnant one approached, and she is 'muqarrab': her delivery neared, and their plural is 'maqareeb', as if they imagined its singular to be 'maqrab';
كمقرب الخيل لأنها تضرج من دنا منها؛
Like the 'muqarrab' of horses because they are stained by whoever approaches them;
أقربت الشاة والأتان، فهي مقرب، ولا يقال للناقة إلا أدنت، فهي مدن.
The ewe and the she-ass approached, and she is 'muqarrab', and it is not said of a she-camel except 'adnat', and she is 'mudinn'.
جمع المقرب من الشاء: مقاريب؛
The plural of 'muqarrab' from sheep: 'maqareeb';
والقريب والقريبة ذو القرابة، والجمع من النساء قرائب، ومن الرجال أقارب، ولو قيل قربى، لجاز.
And 'al-qarib' and 'al-qaribah' are those of kinship, and the plural of women is 'qara'ib', and of men is 'aqarib', and if 'qurba' were said, it would be permissible.
والقرابة والقربى: الدنو في النسب، والقربى في الرحم، وهي في الأصل مصدر.
And 'al-qarabah' and 'al-qurba': closeness in lineage, and 'al-qurba' in kinship, and it is originally a masdar.
والجار ذي القربى .
And the neighbor of kinship.
وما بينهما مقربة ومقربة ومقربة أي قرابة.
And what is between them is 'maqrabah', 'maqrabah', and 'maqrabah', meaning kinship.
وأنذر عشيرتك الأقربين .
And warn your nearest kindred.
يا بني عبد المطلب، يا بني هاشم، يا بني عبد مناف، يا عباس، يا صفية: إني لا أملك لكم من الله شيئا، سلوني من مالي ما شئتم ؛
O sons of Abd al-Muttalib, O sons of Hashim, O sons of Abd Manaf, O Abbas, O Safiyyah: I possess nothing for you from Allah; ask me of my wealth whatever you wish;
