أنت نبي تعلم الغيابا
You are a prophet who knows the hidden things.
يؤمنون بالغيب
They believe in the unseen.
أي يؤمنون بما غاب عنهم، مما أخبرهم به النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، من أمر البعث والجنة والنار.
Meaning they believe in what is hidden from them, which the Prophet, peace be upon him, informed them about, concerning the resurrection, paradise, and hellfire.
والغيب أيضا ما غاب عن العيون، وإن كان محصلا في القلوب.
And the unseen is also what is hidden from the eyes, even if it is realized in the hearts.
ويقال: سمعت صوتا من وراء الغيب أي من موضع لا أراه.
And it is said: I heard a voice from behind the unseen, meaning from a place I cannot see.
وغاب عني الأمر غيبا، وغيابا، وغيبة، وغيبوبة، وغيوبا، ومغابا، ومغيبا، وتغيب: بطن.
And the matter was hidden from me, with various forms of absence, unconsciousness, and disappearance: it was concealed.
وقولهم: غيبه غيابه أي دفن في قبره.
And their saying: 'Ghayyabahu ghayabah' means he was buried in his grave.
كل مكان لا يدرى ما فيه، فهو غيب؛ وكذلك الموضع الذي لا يدرى ما وراءه، وجمعه: غيوب؛
Every place whose contents are unknown is a 'ghayb'; likewise, a place whose beyond is unknown, and its plural is 'ghuyub';
ويرمي الغيوب بعينيه، ومطرفه ... مغض، كما كشف المستأخذ الرمد
He scans the hidden things with his eyes, and his cloak... is lowered, as if the one afflicted with trachoma has revealed it.
وغاب الرجل غيبا ومغيبا وتغيب: سافر، أو بان؛
And the man was absent, traveled, or departed;
والمغايبة: خلاف المخاطبة.
And 'al-mighabah' is the opposite of 'al-mukhatabah' (direct address).
تغيب عني فلان.
So-and-so was absent from me.
ولا يجوز أن يرد على المقيل، كما لا يجوز: مررت برجل أبوه قائم.
It is not permissible for it to refer back to the resting place, just as it is not permissible to say: I passed by a man whose father is standing.
التغييب: أن لا يبيعه ضالة، ولا لقطة.
Al-taghyib: is not selling a lost animal, nor a found item.
وقوم غيب، وغياب، وغيب: غائبون؛
And people are 'ghayyab', 'ghiyab', and 'ghayyab': absent;
والغيب، بالتحريك: جمع غائب كخادم وخدم.
And 'al-ghayb', with vowelization, is the plural of 'gha'ib' like 'khadim' and 'khadam'.
وامرأة مغيب، ومغيب، ومغيبة: غاب بعلها أو أحد من أهلها؛
And a woman is 'maghib', 'maghib', and 'maghibah': her husband or one of her family is absent;
ويقال: هي مغيبة، بالهاء، ومشهد، بلا هاء.
And it is said: she is 'maghibah', with the 'ha', and 'mashhad', without the 'ha'.
وأغابت المرأة، فهي مغيب: غابوا عنها.
And the woman became 'maghib', meaning they were absent from her.
وهي التي غاب عنها زوجها.
She is the one whose husband is absent.
إن سيد الحي سليم، وإن نفرنا غيب أي رجالنا غائبون.
The leader of the tribe is Salim, and our men are absent, meaning our men are absent.
وهم يشهدون أحيانا، ويتغايبون أحيانا أي يغيبون أحيانا.
And they are present sometimes, and they pretend to be absent sometimes, meaning they are absent sometimes.
وغابت الشمس وغيرها من النجوم، مغيبا، وغيابا، وغيوبا، وغيبوبة، وغيوبة، عن الهجري: غربت.
And the sun and other stars set, at their setting place, with various forms of absence and unconsciousness, according to Al-Hajri: they set.
وأغاب القوم: دخلوا في المغيب.
And the people entered the place of absence.
وبدا غيبان العود إذا بدت عروقه التي تغيبت منه؛
And the hidden roots of the tree appeared when its roots that were hidden from it became visible;
والغيابة: كالغيبان.
And 'al-ghayabah' is like 'al-ghayban'.
بدا غيبان الشجرة، وهي عروقها التي تغيبت في الأرض، فحفرت عنها حتى ظهرت.
The hidden roots of the tree appeared, which are its roots that were hidden in the earth, and they were dug up until they appeared.
والغيب من الأرض: ما غيبك، وجمعه غيوب؛
And the 'ghayb' of the land is what conceals you, and its plural is 'ghuyub';
ووقعنا في غيبة من الأرض أي في هبطة، عن اللحياني.
And we fell into a depression in the land, meaning a low-lying area, according to Al-Lihyani.
ووقعوا في غيابة من الأرض أي في منهبط منها.
And they fell into a depression in the land, meaning a low-lying area within it.
كالجب والوادي وغيرهما؛ تقول: وقعنا في غيبة وغيابة أي هبطة من الأرض؛
Like a well, a valley, and others; you say: we fell into a 'ghaybah' and 'ghayabah', meaning a depression in the land;
وفي حرف أبي، في غيبة الجب.
And in the reading of Ubayy, 'in the depth of the pit'.
والغيبة: من الغيبوبة.
And 'al-ghaybah' is from 'al-ghaybubah'.
والغيبة: من الاغتياب.
And 'al-ghaybah' is from 'al-ightiyab'.
إذا وقع فيه، وهو أن يتكلم خلف إنسان مستور بسوء، أو بما يغمه لو سمعه وإن كان فيه، فإن كان صدقا، فهو غيبة؛ وإن كان كذبا، فهو البهت والبهتان؛
If he spoke about him, meaning speaking behind a person's back with something bad, or with something that would sadden him if he heard it, even if it were true, then it is 'ghibah'; and if it were false, then it is 'buht' and 'buhtan';
ولا يغتب بعضكم بعضا ؛ أي لا يتناول رجلا بظهر الغيب بما يسوءه مما هو فيه.
And let not some of you backbite others; meaning do not speak ill of a man in his absence about something that would displease him, concerning what he is in.
وإذا تناوله بما ليس فيه، فهو بهت وبهتان.
And if you mention about him what is not in him, then it is 'buht' and 'buhtan'.
وروي عن بعضهم أنه سمع: غابه يغيبه إذا عابه، وذكر منه ما يسوءه.
And it was narrated from some of them that they heard: 'ghabahu yughayyibuhu' if he criticized him, and mentioned something that would displease him.
ابن الأعرابي: غاب إذا اغتاب.
Ibn Al-A'rabi: 'ghaba' means he backbit.
وغاب إذا ذكر إنسانا بخير أو شر؛ والغيبة: فعلة منه، تكون حسنة وقبيحة.
And 'ghaba' means he mentioned a person with good or evil; and 'al-ghibah' is an act from it, which can be good or bad.
ويخبرني، عن غائب المرء، هديه، ... كفى الهدي، عما غيب المرء، مخبرا
And it informs me, about a person's absent guidance, his guidance... Guidance is sufficient as an informant about what the person has hidden.
وشاة ذات غيب أي ذات شحم لتغيبه عن العين؛
And a sheep with 'ghayb' means it has fat that conceals it from the eye;
وترى لغر نساه غيبا غامضا، ... قلق الخصيلة، من فويق المفصل
And you see for the wrinkled skin of its hindquarters a hidden gap, ... restless in its sinew, above the joint.
والغر: تكسر الجلد وتغضنه.
And 'al-ghurr' is the cracking and wrinkling of the skin.
والشاكلة: الطفطفة.
And 'al-shakilah' is the flank.
والفرير: موضع المجسة من معرفته.
And 'al-farir' is the place of the pulse from its knowledge.
والحصير: العقبة التي تبدو في الجنب، بين الصفاق ومقط الأضلاع.
And 'al-hasir' is the prominence that appears on the side, between the peritoneum and the ends of the ribs.
الهوازني: الغابة الوطاءة من الأرض التي دونها شرفة، وهي الوهدة.
Al-Hawazini: 'Al-Ghabah' is a low area of land below a ledge, which is a hollow.
وقال أبو جابر الأسدي: الغابة الجمع من الناس؛
And Abu Jabir Al-Asadi said: 'Al-Ghabah' is a gathering of people;
إذا نصبوا رماحهم بغاب، ... حسبت رماحهم سبل الغوادي
When they set up their spears in the thicket, ... I thought their spears were the paths of the rain clouds.
والغابة: الأجمة التي طالت، ولها أطراف مرتفعة باسقة؛ يقال: ليث غابة.
And 'al-ghabah' is the tall thicket, with its high, towering edges; it is said: a lion of the forest.
والغاب: الآجام، وهو من الياء.
And 'al-ghab' are the thickets, and it is from 'ya'.
والغابة: الأجمة؛
And 'al-ghabah' is the thicket;
وقد جعلت جماعة الشجر، لأنه مأخوذ من الغيابة.
And it has been made a collection of trees, because it is derived from 'al-ghayabah'.
أن منبر سيدنا رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، كان من أثل الغابة ؛
That the pulpit of our master, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was made from the tamarisk of the forest;
وفي رواية: من طرفاء الغابة.
And in another narration: from the tamarisk of the forest.
والغابة: غيضة ذات شجر كثير، وهي على تسعة أميال من المدينة؛
And 'al-ghabah' is a thicket with many trees, and it is nine miles from Medina;
وهي موضع قريب من المدينة، من عواليها، وبها أموال لأهلها.
And it is a place near Medina, from its upper parts, and it has properties belonging to its people.
والغابة: الأجمة ذات الشجر المتكاثف، لأنها تغيب ما فيها.
And 'al-ghabah' is the thicket with dense trees, because it conceals what is within it.
والغابة من الرماح: ما طال منها، وكان لها أطراف ترى كأطراف الأجمة؛
And 'al-ghabah' of spears is that which is long, and has edges that appear like the edges of a thicket;
وقيل: هي المضطربة من الرماح في الريح؛
And it is said: it is the spears that are agitated by the wind;
وقيل: هي الرماح إذا اجتمعت؛
And it is said: it is the spears when they are gathered;
وأراه على التشبيه بالغابة التي هي الأجمة؛
And I think it is by analogy with 'al-ghabah' which is the thicket;
والجمع من كل ذلك: غابات وغاب.
And the plural of all of that is 'ghabat' and 'ghab'.
كليث غابات شديد القسوره.
Like a lion of the forests, strong in its might.
أضافه إلى الغابات لشدته وقوته، وأنه يحمي غابات شتى.
He attributed it to the forests due to its strength and power, and that it protects various forests.
وغابة: اسم موضع بالحجاز.
And 'Ghabah' is the name of a place in Hijaz.
