Al-Jawhari said: The single piece of grape is 'unabah, and it is a rare construction because the majority of this construction is for the plural, like qird and qirdah, fil and filah, thawr and thawrah, except that it has come for the singular, and it is rare, like 'unabah, al-tawilah, al-habrah, al-taybah, al-khayrah, al-tayrah; he said: 'I do not know of others.' If you want its plural in the smallest number, you pluralize it with ta' and say: 'anabāt; and for the many: 'inab and 'a'nāb.

والعنب: الخمر؛ حكاها أبو حنيفة، وزعم أنها لغة يمانية؛ كما أن الخمر العنب أيضا، في بعض اللغات؛ قال الراعي في العنب التي هي الخمر: ونازعني بها إخوان صدق ... شواء الطير، والعنب الحقينا

And 'al-'inab: wine; Abu Hanifa narrated it, and claimed it is a Yamanite dialect; just as wine is also 'inab, in some languages; Al-Rā'ī said about 'al-'inab' which is wine: 'And brothers of truth contended with me over it... roasted birds, and the wine we had.'

And a man 'unnāb: sells grapes.

وعانب: ذو عنب؛ كما يقولون: تامر ولابن أي ذو لبن وتمر.

And 'ānib: having grapes; as they say: tāmir and lābin, meaning having milk and dates.

ورجل معنب، بفتح النون: طويل.

And a man mu'anab, with fatha on the nun: tall.

وإذا كان القطران غليظا فهو: معنب؛ وأنشد: لو أن فيه الحنظل المقشبا، ... والقطران العاتق المعنبا

And if the pitch is thick, then it is: mu'anab; and he recited: 'If it contained the scraped colocynth... and the aged, thick pitch.'

والعنبة: بثرة تخرج بالإنسان تعدي «1». وقال الأزهري: تسمئد، فترم، وتمتلئ ماء، وتوجع؛ تأخذ الإنسان في عينه، وفي حلقه؛ يقال: في عينه عنبة.

And 'al-'unabah: a pustule that emerges on a person, it is contagious. Al-Azhari said: it swells, becomes inflamed, fills with water, and hurts; it affects a person in their eye, and in their throat; it is said: 'There is an 'unabah in his eye.'

والعناب: من الثمر، معروف، الواحدة عنابة.

And 'al-'unnāb: is from the fruits, well-known, the singular is 'unābah.

ويقال له: السنجلان، بلسان الفرس، وربما سمي ثمر الأراك عنابا.

And 'al-'unnāb: the tall, solitary hill with a pointed top, it can be black and red, and of every color; and its dominant color is dark brown, and it is a tall hill in the sky, it does not grow anything, it is round. He said: 'And 'al-'unnāb' is singular. He said: 'Do not generalize it, meaning do not pluralize it, and if you pluralized it, you would say: 'al-'inab'; the rajaz poet said: 'A testicle as if it were 'al-'unnāb.'

And 'al-'unnāb: a mountain on the road to Mecca; Al-Mirār said: 'They made their right side the hills of Habas, ... and turned away, from their left, from 'al-'unnāb.'

And a gazelle 'anbān: lively; he said: 'As I saw the lively, spreading gazelle... one day, when it was startled, meaning pursued.'

وقيل: العنبان الثقيل من الظباء، فهو ضد؛ وقيل: هو المسن من الظباء، ولا فعل لهما؛ وقيل: هو تيس الظباء، وجمعه عنبان.

And it was said: 'al-'anbān' is the heavy one among gazelles, so it is the opposite; and it was said: it is the old one among gazelles, and they have no verb; and it was said: it is the male gazelle, and its plural is 'anabān.

والعنبب: كثرة الماء؛ وأنشد ابن الأعرابي: فصبحت، والشمس لم تقضب، ... عينا بغضيان ثجوج العنبب

And 'al-'anabib: abundance of water; Ibn al-A'rābī recited: 'I came upon it in the morning, and the sun had not yet risen... a spring with flowing, abundant water.'

وعنبب: موضع؛ وقيل: واد؛ ثلاثي عند سيبويه. وحمله ابن جني على أنه فنعل؛ قال: لأنه يعب الماء، وقد ذكر في عبب.

And 'anabab: a place; and it was said: a valley; trilateral according to Sibawayh. Ibn Jinni interpreted it as 'fan'al'; he said: 'Because it drinks water, and it was mentioned under 'abab.'

And 'Unnāb ibn Abi Harithah: a man from Tayy.

And 'al-'anābah: a place name; Kathir 'Azzah said: 'And I said, and they made the pass of Badr... to our right, and 'al-'anābah to our left.'

وبئر أبي عنبة، بكسر العين وفتح النون، وردت في الحديث: وهي بئر معروفة بالمدينة، عرض رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أصحابه عندها لما سار إلى بدر.

And the well of Abi 'Unabah, with kasra on the 'ayn and fatha on the nun, was mentioned in the hadith: and it is a known well in Medina, where the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, presented his companions when he marched to Badr.

وفي الحديث ذكر عنابة بالتخفيف: قارة سوداء بين مكة والمدينة، كان زين العابدين يسكنها.

And in the hadith, 'anābah with lightened 'n' is mentioned: a black plateau between Mecca and Medina, where Zayn al-Abidin used to reside.
