I am the leader of the believers, and wealth is the leader of the disbelievers; and in another narration, the hypocrites, meaning the believers flock to me, and the disbelievers or hypocrites flock to wealth, just as bees flock to their leader, who is their مقدمها (leader) and سيدها (master), and the 'ba' is extra.
لهفي عليك، يعسوب قريش، جدعت أنفي، وشفيت نفسي ؛
My grief for you, O leader of Quraysh! You have cut off my nose, and satisfied my soul;
يعسوب قريش: سيدها.
The leader of Quraysh: its master.
شبهه في قريش بالفحل في النحل.
He likened him among Quraysh to the stallion among bees.
وما خير عيش، لا يزال كأنه ... محلة يعسوب برأس سنان
And what good is a life that is always like... the head of a leader on the tip of a spear
فإن معناه: أن الرئيس إذا قتل، جعل رأسه على سنان؛ يعني أن العيش إذا كان هكذا، فهو الموت.
For its meaning is: that when the leader is killed, his head is placed on a spear; meaning that life, if it is like this, is death.
سمى، في حديث آخر، الذهب يعسوبا، على المثل، لقوام الأمور به.
He named, in another hadith, gold 'ya'sub', by analogy, because it sustains affairs.
واليعسوب: طائر أصغر من الجرادة، عن أبي عبيد.
And the ya'sub: a bird smaller than a locust, according to Abu Ubaid.
وقيل: أعظم من الجرادة، طويل الذنب، لا يضم جناحيه إذا وقع، تشبه به الخيل في الضمر؛
And it was said: larger than a locust, long-tailed, it does not fold its wings when it falls, and horses are likened to it in leanness;
أبو صبية شعث، يطيف بشخصه ... كوالح، أمثال اليعاسيب، ضمر
A disheveled father of a child, circling his person... like dark clouds, resembling the ya'asib, lean
والياء فيه زائدة، لأنه ليس في الكلام فعلول، غير صعقوق.
And the 'ya' in it is extra, because there is no 'fa'ul' pattern in speech, except for 'sa'uq'.
لولا ظمأ الهواجر، ما باليت أن أكون يعسوبا ؛
Were it not for the thirst of the midday heat, I would not mind being a ya'sub;
هو، هاهنا، فراشة مخضرة تطير في الربيع؛ وقيل: إنه طائر أعظم من الجراد.
It is, here, a greenish moth that flies in the spring; and it was said: it is a bird larger than a locust.
ولو قيل إنه النحلة، لجاز.
And if it were said to be the bee, it would be permissible.
واليعسوب: غرة، في وجه الفرس، مستطيلة، تنقطع قبل أن تساوي أعلى المنخرين، وإن ارتفع أيضا على قصبة الأنف، وعرض واعتدل، حتى يبلغ أسفل الخليقاء، فهو يعسوب أيضا، قل أو كثر، ما لم يبلغ العينين.
And the ya'sub: a blaze on the face of a horse, elongated, that stops before reaching the top of the nostrils, and if it rises also above the bridge of the nose, and widens and straightens, until it reaches below the jaw, it is also a ya'sub, little or much, as long as it does not reach the eyes.
واليعسوب: دائرة في مركض الفارس، حيث يركض برجله من جنب الفرس؛ قال الأزهري: هذا غلط.
And the ya'sub: a circle in the rider's stride, where he kicks his leg from the side of the horse; Al-Azhari said: this is wrong.
واليعسوب، عند أبي عبيدة وغيره: خط من بياض الغرة، ينحدر حتى يمس خطم الدابة، ثم ينقطع.
And the ya'sub, according to Abu Ubaidah and others: a line of white from the blaze, descending until it touches the muzzle of the animal, then it stops.
واليعسوب: اسم فرس سيدنا رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم.
And Al-Ya'sub: the name of the horse of our master, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
واليعسوب أيضا: اسم فرس الزبير بن العوام، رضي الله تعالى عنه.
