And he was overcome with emotion, a great emotion, so he is tarib, from a people of tarab.
بانت طرابا، وبات الليل لم ينم
She became restless, and spent the night sleepless.
ورجل طروب ومطراب ومطرابة، الأخيرة عن اللحياني: كثير الطرب؛
And a man is tarub, mitrab, and mitraba, the last from Al-Lihyani: very prone to emotion;
واستطرب: طلب الطرب واللهو.
And istatrab: he sought joy and amusement.
وطربه هو، وطرب: تغنى؛
And he sang to him, and he sang: he chanted;
يغرد بالأسحار، في كل سدفة، ... تغرد مياح الندامى المطرب
He chirps at dawn, in every shadow, ... the singer of the companions, the delightful one, chirps.
كما طرب الطائر المستحر أي رجع.
Like the morning bird that modulated its voice, meaning it returned.
والتطريب في الصوت: مده وتحسينه.
And al-tatrib in the voice: its lengthening and beautifying.
وطرب في قراءته: مد ورجع.
And he modulated his recitation: he lengthened and returned [his voice].
وطرب الطائر في صوته، كذلك، وخص بعضهم به المكاء.
And the bird modulated its voice, likewise, and some specified it for whistling.
طربوا صاحوا ساعة بعد ساعة.
They became agitated, shouting from one hour to the next.
والأطراب: نقاوة الرياحين؛ وقيل: الأطراب الرياحين وأذكاؤها.
And al-atrab: the purity of fragrances; and it was said: al-atrab are fragrances and their intensity.
وإبل طراب تنزع إلى أوطانها، وقيل: إذا طربت لحداتها.
And camels are tarab, yearning for their homelands, and it was said: when they are moved by their drivers' songs.
واستطرب الحداة الإبل إذا خفت في سيرها، من أجل حداتها؛
And the camel drivers made the camels eager if they lightened their pace, because of their songs;
حملهم على الطرب شوق نازع؛
Their longing drove them to excitement;
حتى يرنأ الطرب فإنما عنى بالطرب السهم؛ سماه طربا لتصويته إذا دوم أي فتل بالأصابع.
Until the arrow makes a sound; he meant by 'tarab' the arrow; he called it 'tarab' because of its whistling sound when spun with the fingers.
والمطرب والمطربة: الطريق الضيق، ولا فعل له، والجمع المطارب؛
And al-mutrib and al-mutraba: the narrow path, and it has no verb, and its plural is al-matarib;
متلف مثل فرق الرأس، تخلجه ... مطارب، زقب أميالها فيح
A deadly place like the parting of a head, it draws you through ... narrow paths, whose miles are wide.
لعن الله من غير المطربة والمقربة.
May Allah curse whoever changes the designated path and the clear path.
المطربة: واحدة المطارب، وهي طرق صغار تنفذ إلى الطرق الكبار، وقيل: المطارب طرق متفرقة، واحدتها مطربة ومطرب؛
Al-mutraba: one of the matarib, which are small paths leading to larger roads, and it was said: al-matarib are scattered paths, their singular is mutraba and mutrab;
يقال: طربت عن الطريق: عدلت عنه.
It is said: taraba 'an al-tariq: he deviated from the path.
والطرب: اسم فرس سيدنا رسول الله، صلى الله عليه وسلم.
