And it is said to the dull person: Milk, then drink, meaning kneel, then understand.

والشربب في شعر لبيد، بالهاء؛ قال: هل تعرف الدار بسفح الشرببه؟

And al-Sharbab in the poetry of Labid, with the ha; he said: Do you know the dwelling at the foot of al-Sharbah?

والشربة: أرض لينة تنبت العشب، وليس بها شجر

And al-Sharbah: soft land that grows grass, and has no trees.

وإنما هذا، عن كراع، وقد جاء له ثان، وهو قولهم: جربة، وهو مذكور في موضعه

اِشْرَأَبَّ النِّفَاقُ، وَارْتَدَّتِ الْعَرَبُ

Hypocrisy rose up, and the Arabs apostatized.

قال أبو عبيد: اشرأب ارتفع وعلا؛ وكل رافع رأسه: مشرئب

Abu Ubaid said: Ishra'abba means to rise and become elevated; and everyone who raises his head is ishra'ib.

فينشرئبون لصوته ؛ أي يرفعون رؤوسهم لينظروا إليه

So they will crane towards his voice; meaning they will raise their heads to look at him.

وأنشد لذي الرمة يصف الظبية، ورفعها رأسها: ذكرتك، إذ مرت بنا أم شادن، أمام المطايا، تشرئب وتسـنح

And he recited for Dhi al-Rummah describing a doe, and her raising her head: I remembered you, when the mother of a young gazelle passed by us, in front of the camels, craning her neck and turning.

قال: اشرأب مأخوذ من المشربة، وهي الغرفة

He said: Ishra'abba is derived from al-mashrabah, which is a ladleful.
