الشَّذَبُ: قَطْعُ الشَّجَرِ، والواحِدَةُ شَذْبَةٌ؛ وهو أيضاً قِشْرُ الشَّجَرِ
Al-shadhbu: the cutting of trees, and the singular is shadhbah; it is also the bark of trees.
وقد شَذَّبَ اللِّحاءَ يَشْذِبُهُ ويَشْذِبُهُ، وشَذَّبَهُ: قَشَّرَهُ
And he peeled the bark, he peels it and he peels it, and he peeled it: meaning he stripped it.
وشَذَّبَ العُودَ، يَشْذِبُهُ شَذْباً. أَلْقَى ما عَلَيْهِ مِنْ الأَغْصانِ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ؛
And he pruned the branch, he prunes it a pruning. He cast off what was upon it of branches until it became apparent;
وكُلُّ شَيْءٍ نُحِّيَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، فَقَدْ شُذِّبَ عَنْهُ؛
And everything that is removed from something, it has been pruned from it;
كَقَوْلِهِ: نَشْذِبُ عَنْ خِنْدِفَ، حَتَّى تَرْضَى أَيْ نَدْفَعُ عَنْهَا العِدَا؛
Like his saying: We repel from Khindif, until she is pleased, meaning we drive away the enemies from her;
وقال رؤبة: يَشْذِبُ أُولاهُنَّ عَنْ ذَاتِ النَّهْقِ «4» أَيْ يَطْرُدُ
And Ru'bah said: He drives away their first ones from the one with the braying, meaning he repels.
والشَّذْبَةُ، بالتَّحْرِيكِ: ما يُقْطَعُ مِمَّا تَفَرَّقَ مِنْ أَغْصانِ الشَّجَرِ ولَمْ يَكُنْ في لُبِّهِ، والجَمْعُ الشَّذْبُ؛
And al-shadhbah, with harakah: what is cut from the scattered branches of a tree and was not in its core, and the plural is al-shadhbu;
قال الكميت: بَلْ أَنْتَ في ضِضْئِ النَّضَّارِ مِنْ ... النَّبْعَةِ، إذْ حَظُّ غَيْرِكَ الشَّذَبُ
Al-Kumait said: Rather, you are from the lineage of the shining one from... the Nab'ah tree, when the share of others is the scattered wood.
الشَّذَبُ: القُشُورُ، والعِيدَانُ المُتَفَرِّقَةُ.
Al-Shadhbu: the barks, and the scattered sticks.
وجِذْعٌ مُشَذَّبٌ أَيْ مُقَشَّرٌ، إِذا قُشِرَتْ ما عَلَيْهِ مِنْ الشَّوْكِ؛
And a pruned trunk, meaning peeled, if what was upon it of thorns is peeled;
وَمِنْهُ قَوْلُهُمْ: رَجُلٌ شَاذِبٌ إِذا كانَ مَطْرُوحاً، مَأْيُوساً مِنْ فَلَاحِهِ، كَأَنَّهُ عُرِيَ مِنَ الخَيْرِ، شُبِّهَ بِالشَّذْبِ، وهُوَ ما يُلْقَى مِنَ النَّخْلَةِ مِنَ الكَرَانِيفِ وغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ.
And from it is their saying: a desperate man, if he is cast aside, despaired of his success, as if he were stripped of good, likened to the pruned material, which is what is cast from the palm tree, the leaf bases and other things.
وقال شَمِرٌ: شَذَّبْتُهُ أَشْذِبُهُ شَذْباً، وشَلَّلْتُهُ شَلاًّ، وشَذَّبْتُهُ تَشْذِيباً، بِمَعْنًى واحِدٍ؛
And Shammir said: I pruned it, I prune it a pruning, and I paralyzed it a paralysis, and I pruned it a pruning, with one meaning;
وقال بَرِيقٌ الهُذَلِيُّ: يَشْذِبُ بالسَّيْفِ أَقْرانَهُ، ... إِذْ فَرَّ ذُو اللَّمَّةِ الفَيْلَمُ
And Bariq al-Hudhayli said: He strikes down his peers with the sword, ... when the long-haired one fled.
والمُشَذَّبُ: المِنْجَلُ الَّذِي يُشَذَّبُ بِهِ.
And al-mushadhdhab: the sickle with which one prunes.
والتَّشْذِيبُ: التَّفْرِيقُ والتَّمْزِيقُ في المالِ ونَحْوِهِ.
And al-tashdhib: the scattering and tearing apart of wealth and the like.
القُتَيْبِيُّ: شَذَّبْتُ المالَ إِذا فَرَّقْتَهُ، وكَأَنَّ المُفَرِّطَ في الطُّولِ، فَرَّقَ خَلْقَهُ ولَمْ يَجْمَعْ، ولِذَلِكَ قِيلَ لَهُ: مُشَذَّبٌ؛
Al-Qutaybi said: I dispersed the wealth if you scattered it, and it is as if the one excessive in height, his form is dispersed and not gathered, and for that reason he is called: mushadhdhab;
وكُلُّ شَيْءٍ تَفَرَّقَ شَذَبٌ، قال ابْنُ الأَنْبارِيِّ: غَلِطَ القُتَيْبِيُّ في المُشَذَّبِ، أَنَّهُ الطَّوِيلُ البائِنُ الطُّولِ، وأَصْلُهُ مِنْ النَّخْلَةِ الَّتِي شُذِّبَ عَنْهَا جَرِيدُهَا أَيْ قُطِعَ وفُرِّقَ؛
And everything dispersed is shadhb, Ibn al-Anbari said: Al-Qutaybi erred regarding al-mushadhdhab, that it is the one excessively tall, and its origin is from the palm tree from which its fronds were pruned, meaning cut and dispersed;
قال: ولا يُقالُ لِلْبائِنِ الطُّولِ إِذا كانَ كَثِيرَ اللَّحْمِ مُشَذَّبٌ حَتَّى يَكُونَ في لَحْمِهِ بَعْضُ النُّقْصانِ؛ يُقالُ: فَرَسٌ مُشَذَّبٌ إِذا كانَ طَوِيلاً، لَيْسَ بِكَثِيرِ اللَّحْمِ.
He said: And it is not said of the one excessively tall if he has much flesh that he is mushadhdhab until there is some deficiency in his flesh; it is said: a mushadhdhab horse if it is tall, not having much flesh.
وفي حَدِيثِ عَلِيٍّ، كَرَّمَ اللهُ وَجْهَهُ، شَذَّبَهُمْ عَنَّا تَخَرُّمُ الآجالِ.
And in the narration of Ali, may Allah honor his face: the passing of appointed times has pruned them away from us.
وشَذَبَ عَنْهُ شَذْباً أَيْ ذُبَّ.
And he repelled from him a repelling, meaning he was defended.
والشَّاذِبُ: المُتَنَحِّي عَنْ وَطَنِهِ.
And al-shadhb: one who withdraws from his homeland.
ويُقالُ: الشَّذَبُ المَسْناةُ.
And it is said: Al-shadhbu is the elevated path.
ورَجُلٌ شَذَبُ العُرُوقِ أَيْ ظاهِرُ العُرُوقِ.
And a man with shadhb al-'uruq, meaning prominent veins.
وأَشْذَابُ الكَلإِ وغَيْرِهِ، بَقَايَاهُ، الواحِدُ شَذْبٌ، وهُوَ المَأْكُولُ؛
And ashdhab of vegetation and other things, its remnants, the singular is shadhb, and it is the edible part;
قال ذُو الرُّمَّةِ: فَأَصْبَحَ البِكْرُ فَرْداً مِنْ أَلائِفِهِ، ... يَرْتَادُ أُحْلِيَّةً، أَعْجازُها شَذَبٌ
Dhu al-Rummah said: So the young camel became alone from its companions, ... seeking pasture, its hindquarters were sparse.
والشَّذْبُ: مَتاعُ البَيْتِ، مِنْ القُماشِ وغَيْرِهِ.
And al-shadhbu: the household goods, of cloth and other things.
ورَجُلٌ مُشَذَّبٌ: طَوِيلٌ، وكَذَلِكَ الفَرَسُ؛ أَنْشَدَ ثَعْلَبٌ: دَلْوٌ تُمْأَى، دُبِغَتْ بالحَلَبِ، ... بَلَّتْ بِكَفِّي عَزْبٌ مُشَذَّبٌ
And a mushadhdhab man: tall, and likewise the horse; Tha'lab recited: A bucket is filled, tanned with milk, ... it wet my hand, a tall, lean one.
والشَّوْذَبُ مِنَ الرِّجالِ: الطَّوِيلُ الحَسَنُ الخُلُقِ.
And al-shawdhab of men: the tall, well-formed one.
وفي صِفَةِ النَّبِيِّ، صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّمَ: أَنَّهُ كانَ أَطْوَلَ مِنَ المَرْبُوعِ وأَقْصَرَ مِنَ المُشَذَّبِ ؛
And in the description of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: that he was taller than the medium-sized man and shorter than the excessively tall one;
قال أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ: المُشَذَّبُ المُفَرِّطُ في الطُّولِ؛ وكَذَلِكَ هُوَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، قال جَرِيرٌ: أَلْوَى بِهَا شَذَبُ العُرُوقِ مُشَذَّبٌ، ... فَكَأَنَّهَا وُكِنَتْ عَلَى طِرْبالٍ
Abu Ubayd said: Al-mushadhdhab is the one excessive in height; and likewise it is from everything, Jarir said: Tall with prominent veins, excessively tall, ... as if she were nested upon a drum.
رَواهُ شَمِرٌ: أَلْوَى بِهَا شَنَقُ العُرُوقِ مُشَذَّبٌ.
Shammir narrated it: Tall with prominent veins, excessively tall.
والشَّوْذَبُ: الطَّوِيلُ النَّجِيبُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.
And al-shawdhab: the tall, noble one of everything.
وشَوْذَبٌ: اسْمٌ.
And Shawdhab: a name.
