شَجَبَ، بالفتح، يَشْجُبُ، بالضم، شُجُوباً، وشَجَبَ، بالكسر، يَشْجِبُ شَجْباً، فهو شَاجِبٌ وشَجَبٌ: حَزِنَ أو هَلَكَ.
Shajaba, with fatha, yashjubu, with damma, shujooban, and shajaba, with kasra, yashjibu shajban, so he is shajib and shajab: grieved or perished.
وشَجَبَهُ اللهُ، يَشْجِبُهُ شَجْباً أي أَهْلَكَهُ؛ يتعدى ولا يتعدى؛ يقال: ما له شَجَبَهُ اللهُ أي أَهْلَكَهُ؛
And Allah shajaba him, yashjubuhu shajban, meaning He destroyed him; it is transitive and intransitive; it is said: May Allah destroy him, meaning destroy him.
وشَجَبَهُ أيضاً يَشْجِبُهُ شَجْباً: حَزِنَهُ.
And shajabahu also yashjibuhu shajban: it grieved him.
وشَجَبَهُ: شَغَلَهُ.
And shajabahu: it occupied him.
فَالشَّاجِبُ: الذي يَتَكَلَّمُ بالرَّدِيء، وقيل: الناطق بالخنا، المُعِينُ على الظلم؛
So the shajib: is the one who speaks ill, and it was said: the one who speaks obscenely, the one who aids in injustice.
وفي التهذيب: قال أبو عبيد الشَّاجِبُ الهَالِكُ الآثِمُ.
And in Al-Tahdhib: Abu Ubaid said the shajib is the sinful perished one.
قال: وشَجَبَ الرجلُ، يَشْجُبُ شُجُوباً إذا عَطِبَ وهَلَكَ في دَيْنٍ أو دُنْيا.
He said: And the man shajaba, yashjubu shujooban, if he became ruined and perished in debt or worldly matters.
وشَجَبَ يَشْجُبُ شَجْباً، وهو أجْوَدُ اللُّغَتَيْنِ، قاله الكسائي؛
And shajaba yashjubu shajban, and it is the better of the two languages, said Al-Kisa'i.
وَامْرَأَةٌ شَجُوبٌ: ذاتُ هَمٍّ، قَلْبُها مُتَعَلِّقٌ به.
And a woman is shajoob: full of worry, her heart attached to it.
والشَّجْبُ: العَنَتُ يُصِيبُ الإنسانَ من مَرَضٍ، أو قِتَالٍ.
And the shajb: is the hardship that befalls a person from illness or combat.
وشَجْبُ الإنسانِ: حاجَتُهُ وهَمُّهُ، وجَمْعُهُ شُجُوبٌ، والأعْرَفُ شَجَنٌ، بالنون، وسيأتي ذِكْرُهُ في موضِعِهِ.
And the shajb of a person: is his need and his worry, and its plural is shujoob, and the more known is shajan, with noon, and its mention will come in its place.
الأصْمَعِيُّ: يُقالُ إنَّكَ لَتَشْجُبُنِي عن حاجَتِي أي تَجْذِبُنِي عنها؛
Al-Asma'i: It is said that you shajubuni from my need, meaning you pull me away from it.
ومِنْهُ يُقالُ: هو يَشْجُبُ اللِّجَامَ أي يَجْذِبُهُ.
And from this it is said: he shajub al-lijam, meaning he pulls it.
والشَّجْبُ: الهَمُّ والحُزْنُ.
And the shajb: is worry and grief.
وأَشْجَبَهُ الأمرُ، فَشَجَبَ له شَجْباً: حَزِنَ.
And the matter ashjaba him, so he shajaba for it shajban: he grieved.
وقد أَشْجَبَكَ الأمرُ، فَشَجَبْتَ شَجْباً.
And the matter has ashjabak, so you shajabta shajban.
وشَجَبَ الشيءُ، يَشْجُبُ شَجْباً وشُجُوباً: ذَهَبَ.
And the thing shajaba, yashjubu shajban and shujooban: it went away.
وشَجَبَ الغُرَابُ، يَشْجِبُ شَجِيباً: نَعَقَ بالبَيْنِ.
And the raven shajaba, yashjibu shajeeban: it cawed with separation.
وغُرَابٌ شَاجِبٌ: يَشْجِبُ شَجِيباً، وهو الشَّدِيدُ النَّعِيقِ الذي يَتَفَجَّعُ من غُرْبَانِ البَيْنِ؛
And a shajib raven: yashjibu shajeeban, and it is the one with intense cawing that laments the separation of ravens.
والشَّجَابُ: خَشَبَاتٌ مُوثَقَةٌ مَنْصُوبَةٌ، تُوضَعُ عليها الثِّيَابُ وتُنْشَرُ، والجَمْعُ شُجُبٌ؛ والمِشْجَبُ كالشَّجَابِ.
And the shajab: are fastened wooden beams set up, upon which clothes are placed and spread, and the plural is shujub; and the mishjab is like the shajab.
وفي حديث جابر: وثَوْبُهُ على المِشْجَبِ وهو، بكسر الميم، عِيدَانٌ يُضَمُّ رُؤُوسُها، ويُفْرَجُ بين قَوائِمِها، وتُوضَعُ عليها الثِّيَابُ.
And in the hadith of Jabir: and his garment was on the mishjab, and it, with kasra on the meem, is sticks whose tops are joined, and their legs are spread apart, and clothes are placed on them.
وقد تُعَلَّقُ عليها الأَسْقِيَةُ لتَبْرِيدِ الماءِ؛ وهو من تَشَاجَبَ الأمرُ إذا اخْتَلَطَ.
And water skins may be hung on it for cooling water; and it is from tashajaba al-amr if it became mixed.
والشَّجْبُ: الخَشَبَاتُ الثَّلاثُ التي يُعَلِّقُ عليها الرَّاعِي دَلْوَهُ وسِقَاءَهُ.
And the shajb: are the three wooden beams upon which the shepherd hangs his bucket and waterskin.
والشَّجْبُ: عَمُودٌ من أعْمِدَةِ البَيْتِ، والجَمْعُ شُجُوبٌ؛
And the shajb: is a pole from the poles of a tent, and the plural is shujoob.
والشَّجْبُ: سِقَاءٌ يَابِسٌ يُجْعَلُ فيه حَصَى ثم يُحَرَّكُ، تُذْعَرُ به الإِبِلُ.
And the shajb: is a dry waterskin into which pebbles are placed then it is shaken, by which camels are scared.
وسِقَاءٌ شَاجِبٌ أي يَابِسٌ؛
And a shajib waterskin means dry.
وفي حديث ابن عباس، رضي الله عنهما، أنه بات عند خالته مَيْمُونَةَ، قال: فقام النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، إلى شَجْبٍ، فَاصْطَبَّ منه الماءَ، وتَوَضَّأَ ؛
And in the hadith of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he slept at his aunt Maymuna's, he said: So the Prophet, peace be upon him, stood up to a shajb, and poured water from it, and performed ablution.
الشَّجْبُ: بالسُّكُونِ، السِّقَاءُ الذي أَخْلَقَ وبَلِيَ، وصارَ شَنّاً، وهو من الشَّجْبِ، الهَلاكِ، ويُجْمَعُ على شُجُبٍ وأَشْجَابٍ.
The shajb: with sukoon, is the waterskin that became worn out and dilapidated, and became old, and it is from shajb, perishing, and it is pluralized as shujub and ashjab.
قال الأزهري: وسَمِعْتُ أعرابياً من بني سُلَيْمٍ يقول: الشَّجْبُ من الأسَاقِي ما تَشَنَّنَ وأَخْلَقَ؛
Al-Azhari said: And I heard a Bedouin from Banu Sulaym say: The shajb among waterskins is what has become old and worn out.
ابن دُرَيْدٍ: الشَّجْبُ تَدَاخُلُ الشيءِ بعضِهِ في بعضٍ.
Ibn Duraid: The shajb is the intermingling of one thing with another.
وفي حديث عائشة، رضي الله عنها: فاستَقُوا من كلِّ بِئْرٍ ثلاثَ شَجْبٍ.
And in the hadith of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: So they drew water from every well three shajb.
وفي حديث جابر، رضي الله عنه: كان رجلٌ من الأنصارِ يُبَرِّدُ، لرسولِ اللهِ، صلى الله عليه وسلم، الماءَ في أَشْجَابِهِ.
And in the hadith of Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him: There was a man from the Ansar who used to cool water for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, in his ashjab.
وشَجَبَهُ بشَجَابٍ أي سَدَّهُ بسَدَادٍ.
And shajabahu bi-shajabin means he plugged it with a plug.
وبَنُو الشَّجْبِ: قَبِيلَةٌ من كَلْبٍ؛
And Banu Al-Shajb: is a tribe from Kalb.
ويَشْجُبُ: حَيٌّ، وهو يَشْجُبُ بنُ يَعْرُبَ بنِ قَحْطَانَ، واللهُ أعْلَمُ.
And Yashjub: is a clan, and it is Yashjub son of Ya'rub son of Qahtan, and Allah knows best.
