The Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade gossip and idle talk, and he remained on one character from youth to old age.

الجوهري: الشبب المسن من ثيران الوحش، الذي انتهى أسنانه؛ وقال أبو عبيدة: الشبب الثور الذي انتهى شبابا
Al-Jawhari said: 'Ash-shabab' is the old male of wild bulls, whose teeth have worn down; and Abu Ubaydah said: 'Ash-shabab' is the bull that has reached its prime youth.

And the color of a woman's face was enhanced by wearing a black veil, meaning it increased her fairness and complexion, making her more beautiful, because the opposite enhances its opposite and reveals what is hidden.
يقول: كما يظهر لون البدر في الليلة المظلمة
He says: Just as the moon's radiance appears in the dark night.
وفي الحديث عن مطرف: أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، ائتزر ببردة سوداء، فجعل سوادها يشب بياضه، وجعل بياضه يشب سوادها
And in the narration from Mutarrif: That the Prophet, peace be upon him, wore a black cloak, and its blackness enhanced his whiteness, and his whiteness enhanced its blackness.
وفي رواية: أنه لبس مدرعة سوداء، فقالت عائشة: ما أحسنها عليك يشب سوادها بياضك، وبياضك سوادها أي تحسنه ويحسنها
And in another narration: He wore a black tunic, and Aisha said: How beautiful it looks on you, its blackness enhances your whiteness, and your whiteness enhances its blackness, meaning it makes it beautiful and it makes it beautiful.
ورجل مشبوب إذا كان أبيض الوجه أسود الشعر، وأصله من شب النار إذا أوقدها، فتلألأت ضياء ونورا
And a 'mashbūb' man is one who is fair-faced and dark-haired, and its origin is from igniting fire when it is kindled, so it shines with light and radiance.
وفي حديث أم سلمة، رضي الله عنها، حين توفي أبو سلمة، قالت: جعلت على وجهي صبرا، فقال النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم: إنه يشب الوجه، فلا تفعليه ؛ أي يلونه ويحسنه
And in the narration of Umm Salamah, may God be pleased with her, when Abu Salamah passed away, she said: I applied henna to my face, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: It enhances the face, so do not do it; meaning it colors and beautifies it.
وفي حديث عمر، رضي الله عنه، في الجواهر التي جاءته من فتح نهاوند: يشب بعضها بعضا
And in the narration of Umar, may God be pleased with him, concerning the jewels that came to him from the conquest of Nahavand: Some of them enhance each other.
وفي كتابه لوائل بن حجر: إلى الأقيال العباهلة، والأرواع المشابيب أي السادة الرؤوس، الزهر الألوان، الحسان المناظر، واحدهم مشبوب، كأنما أوقدت ألوانهم بالنار
And in his letter to Wa'il ibn Hujr: To the noble chiefs, and the distinguished 'mashābīb', meaning the noble leaders, the bright-colored, the handsome in appearance, the singular of whom is 'mashbūb', as if their complexions were ignited by fire.
والشباب، بالكسر: نشاط الفرس، ورفع يديه جميعا
And 'ash-shabāb', with kasra: the spiritedness of a horse, and its raising both its front legs.
وشب الفرس، يشب ويشب شبابا، وشبيبا وشبوبا: رفع يديه جميعا، كأنه ينزو نزوانا، ولعب وقمص
And a horse 'shabba', it 'yashubbu' and 'yashubbu' 'shabāban', 'shabīban', and 'shubūban': raises both its front legs, as if it were leaping playfully and frolicking.
وأشبيته إذا هيجته؛ وكذلك إذا حرن تقول: برئت إليك من شبابه وشبيبه، وعضاضه وعضيضه
And you 'ashbaytahu' if you agitated it; and similarly if it became stubborn. You say: I disavow myself to you from its spiritedness and its biting.
استشبوا على أسوقكم في البول ، يقول: استوفزوا عليها، ولا تستقروا على الأرض بجميع أقدامكم، وتدنو منها، هو من شب الفرس إذا رفع يديه جميعا من الأرض
'Istashibbū 'alā aswāqikum' in the context of urination, means: be alert on your legs, and do not settle on the ground with all your feet, and approach it; it is from a horse 'shabba' when it raises both its front legs off the ground.
وأشب لي الرجل إشبابا إذا رفعت طرفك، فرأيته من غير أن ترجوه، أو تحتسبه
And a man 'ashabba' to me 'ishbāban' if you cast your glance and saw him without expecting or anticipating him.
وأشب لي كذا أي أتيح لي، وشب أيضا على ما لم يسم فاعله فيهما
And 'ashabba' to me such-and-such, meaning it was made available to me, and 'shabba' also in the passive voice.
