Then Gabriel seized me by the throat, and choked me until I burst into tears
يُرَادُ بِهِ خَنَقَنِي؛ يُقَالُ سَأَبْتُهُ وَسَأَتْهُ إِذَا خَنَقْتَهُ.

السَّأْبُ: الْعَصْرُ فِي الْحَلْقِ، كَالْخَنْقِ؛
Al-sa'b: is the pressing in the throat, like choking;
وَسَئِبْتُ مِنَ الشَّرَابِ.
And I was choked by the drink.
وَسَأَبَ مِنَ الشَّرَابِ يَسْأَبُ سَأْبًا، وَسَئِبَ سَأْبًا: كِلَاهُمَا رُوِيَ.
And he choked on the drink, choking, and he choked, choking: both were narrated.
وَالسَّأْبُ: زِقُّ الْخَمْرِ، وَقِيلَ: هُوَ الْعَظِيمُ مِنْهَا؛
And al-sa'b: is the wineskin of wine, and it was said: it is the large one of them;
وَقِيلَ: هُوَ الزِّقُّ أَيًّا كَانَ؛ وَقِيلَ: هُوَ وِعَاءٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ، يُوضَعُ فِيهِ الزِّقُّ، وَالْجَمْعُ سُؤُوبٌ؛
And it was said: it is the wineskin, whatever it may be; and it was said: it is a container of leather, in which the wineskin is placed, and the plural is su'ub;
وَقَوْلُهُ: إِذَا ذُقْتَ فَاها، قُلْتَ: عَلِقَ مِدْمَسٌ، ... أُرِيدُ بِهِ قِيلٌ، فَغُودِرَ فِي سَابٍ إِنَّمَا هُوَ فِي سَأْبٍ، فَأُبْدِلَ الْهَمْزَةُ إِبْدَالًا صَحِيحًا، لِإِقَامَةِ الرَّدْفِ.
And his saying: When you taste its mouth, you say: a buried thing is stuck, ... he means by it 'qil', and it was left in a sa'b, it is actually in sa'b, so the hamza was correctly substituted to maintain the rhyme.
وَالْمَسْأَبُ: الزِّقُّ، كَالسَّأْبِ؛
And al-mas'ab: is the wineskin, like al-sa'b;
وَقِيلَ: هُوَ سِقَاءُ الْعَسَلِ.
And it was said: it is the waterskin of honey.
قَالَ شَمِرٌ: الْمَسْأَبُ أَيْضًا وِعَاءٌ يُجْعَلُ فِيهِ الْعَسَلُ.
Shamir said: Al-mas'ab is also a container in which honey is placed.
وَفِي الصِّحَاحِ: الْمَسْأَبُ سِقَاءُ الْعَسَلِ؛
And in Al-Sihah: Al-mas'ab is the waterskin of honey;
وَقَوْلُ أَبِي ذُؤَيْبٍ، يَصِفُ مُشْتَارَ الْعَسَلِ: تَأَبَّطَ خَافَةً، فِيهَا مَسَابٌ، ... فَأَصْبَحَ يَقْتَرِي مَسْدًا بِشِيقٍ أَرَادَ مَسْأَبًا، بِالْهَمْزِ، فَخُفِّفَ الْهَمْزَةُ عَلَى قَوْلِهِمْ فِيمَا حَكَاهُ صَاحِبُ الْكِتَابِ: الْمَرَأَةُ وَالْكُمَاةُ؛ وَأَرَادَ شِيقًا بِمَسَدٍ، فَقُلِبَ.
And the saying of Abu Dhu'ayb, describing a honey collector: He tucked under his arm a bag, containing containers, ... and he became to acquire a rope with a mountain. He intended mas'aban, with hamza, so the hamza was lightened according to their saying as narrated by the author of Al-Kitab: al-mar'ah and al-kumah; and he intended shiqan with masad, so it was inverted.
وَسَأَبْتُ السِّقَاءَ: وَسَّعْتُهُ.
And I widened the waterskin: I made it wider.
وَإِنَّهُ لَسُؤْبَانُ مَالٍ أَيْ حُسْنُ الرِّعَايَةِ وَالْحِفْظِ لَهُ وَالْقِيَامِ عَلَيْهِ؛ هَكَذَا حَكَاهُ ابْنُ جِنِّي، قَالَ: وَهُوَ فَعْلَانٌ، مِنَ السَّأْبِ الَّذِي هُوَ الزِّقُّ، لِأَنَّ الزِّقَّ إِنَّمَا وُضِعَ لِحِفْظِ مَا فِيهِ.
And indeed, he is su'ban of wealth, meaning good care, preservation, and oversight of it; thus narrated Ibn Jinni, he said: and it is fa'lan, from al-sa'b which is the wineskin, because the wineskin was placed for the preservation of what is in it.
