And a Za'ub flood: Za'ib (filling).
وجاءنا سيل يزعب زعبا أي يتدافع في الوادي ويجري؛ وإذا قلت يرعب، بالراء، تعني يملأ الوادي.
And a flood came to us yaza'ub za'ban, meaning it surged in the valley and flowed; and if you say yar'ab, with the ra', it means it fills the valley.
وزعب المرأة يزعبها «1» زعبا: جامعها فملأ فرجها بفرجه.
And he had intercourse with the woman, yaza'ubuhā za'ban: he joined her and filled her vagina with his penis.
وازدعبت الشيء إذا حملته؛ يقال: مر به فازدعبه.
And you say 'izda'aba the thing if you carried it; it is said: he passed by it and carried it.
وقربة مزعوبة وممزورة: مملوءة.
And a maz'uba and mamzura waterskin: full.
وزعب القربة: ملأها؛ وأنشد: من الفرني يزعبها الجميل أي يملؤها.
And he filled the waterskin, mala'aha; and he recited: 'From al-Farnī, al-Jamil fills it, meaning he fills it.'
وزعب القربة: احتملها وهي ممتلئة.
And he carried the waterskin: he bore it while it was full.
يقال: جاء فلان يزعبها ويزأبها أي يحملها مملوءة.
It is said: So-and-so came yaza'ubuhā and yaza'abuhā, meaning carrying it full.
وفي حديث أبي الهيثم، رضي الله عنه: فلم يلبث أن جاء بقربة يزعبها أي يتدافع بها، ويحملها لثقلها؛ وقيل: زعب بحمله إذا استقام.
And in the hadith of Abu al-Haytham, may Allah be pleased with him: He did not delay but came with a waterskin yaza'ubuhā, meaning pushing it along, and carrying it due to its weight; and it was said: Za'aba bi-hamlihi if he stood upright.
وزعب بحمله يزعب، وازدعب: تدافع.
And he moved with his load, yaza'ub, and 'izda'aba: he pushed forward.
ومر يزعب به: مر سريعا.
And he passed yaza'ub bihi: he passed quickly.
وزعب البعير بحمله يزعب به: مر به مثقلا.
And the camel moved with its load, yaza'ub bihi: it passed with it, heavily laden.
وزعبته عني زعبا: دفعته.
And I pushed him away from me za'ban: I pushed him away.
والزاعبي من الرماح: الذي إذا هز تدافع كله كأن آخره يجري في مقدمه.
And the Za'ibi from spears: one that, when shaken, moves entirely as if its end is running into its beginning.
والزاعبية: رماح منسوبة إلى زاعب، رجل أو بلد؛ قال الطرماح «2»: وأجوبة، كالزاعبية وخزها، ... يبادهها شيخ العراقين، أمردا
And al-Za'ibiyyah: spears attributed to Za'ib, a man or a place; Tarimmah said: 'And answers, like al-Za'ibiyyah and its sharpness, ... the elder of the two Iraqs confronts it, smooth-skinned.'
وقال الأصمعي: الزاعبي: الذي إذا هز كأن كعوبه يجري بعضها في بعض، للينه، وهو من قولك: مر يزعب بحمله إذا مر مرا سهلا؛ وأنشد: ونصل، كنصل الزاعبي، فتيق أراد كنصل الرمح الزاعبي.
And Al-Asma'i said: Al-Za'ibi: one that, when shaken, its joints seem to run into each other, due to its flexibility, and it is from your saying: 'He passed yaza'ub bi-hamlihi' if he passed easily; and he recited: 'And a blade, like the blade of the Za'ibi, sharp.' He meant like the blade of the Za'ibi spear.
والزاعب: الهادي، السياح في الأرض؛ قال ابن هرمة: يكاد يهلك فيها الزاعب الهادي
And Al-Za'ib: the guide, the traveler on earth; Ibn Hirmah said: 'The guiding Za'ib almost perishes in it.'
وزعب الرجل في قيئه إذا أكثر حتى يدفع بعضه بعضا.
And the man vomited in his vomit if he did it excessively until some of it pushed the other.
وفي الحديث: أن النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال لعمرو بن العاص، رضي الله عنه: إني أرسلت إليك لأبعثك في وجه، يسلمك الله ويغنمك، وأزعب لك زعبة من المال ؛ أي أعطيك دفعة من المال؛ والزعبة: الدفعة من المال.
And in the hadith: That the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him: 'I sent for you to send you on a mission, may Allah keep you safe and grant you spoils, and I will give you a za'bah of money'; meaning I will give you a portion of money; and al-za'bah: a portion of money.
قال: وأصل الزعب الدفع والقسم؛ يقال: زعبت له زعبة من المال وزعبة، وزهبت زهبة: دفعت له قطعة وافرة من المال.
He said: And the origin of za'b is pushing and dividing; it is said: 'I gave him a za'bah of money and a za'bah,' and 'zahabtu zahbah': I gave him a generous piece of money.
وفي حديث علي، كرم الله وجهه، وعطيته: أنه كان يزعب لقوم، ويخوص لآخرين.
And in the hadith of Ali, may Allah honor his face, and his giving: That he used to give za'ban to some people, and khawṣan to others.
وزعب النحل يزعب زعبا: صوت.
And the bees buzzed, yaza'ub za'ban: a sound.
والزعيب والنعيب: صوت الغراب؛ وقد زعب ونعب بمعنى واحد؛ وقال شمر في قوله: زعب الغراب، وليته لم يزعب يكون زعب بمعنى زعم، أبدل الميم باء مثل عجب الذنب وعجمه.
And al-za'īb and al-na'īb: the sound of a crow; and za'aba and na'aba have the same meaning; and Shamir said about his saying: 'The crow cawed, and I wish it had not cawed,' it means za'aba meaning 'za'ama' (claimed), substituting the mim with ba', like 'ajab al-dhanab and 'ajamah.
وزعب الشراب يزعبه زعبا. شربه كله.
And he drank the beverage, yaza'ubuhu za'ban. He drank all of it.
ووتر أزعب: غليظ.
And an az'ab bowstring: thick.
وذكر أزعب: كذلك.
And an az'ab man: likewise (short).
والأزعب والزعبوب: القصير من الرجال.
And al-az'ab and al-za'būb: the short man.
وقال ابن السكيت: الزعب اللئام القصار، واحدهم زعبوب؛ على غير قياس؛ وأنشد الفراء في الزعب: من الزعب لم يضرب عدوا بسيفه، ... وبالفأس ضراب رؤوس الكرانف
And Ibn al-Sikkit said: Al-za'b are the base short ones, their singular is za'būb; not according to the usual pattern; and Al-Farra' recited in al-za'b: 'From the base ones, he did not strike an enemy with his sword, ... but with an axe he struck the heads of the Kuranif.'
وروى أبو تراب عن أعرابي أنه قال: هذا البيت مجتزئ بزعبه وزهبه أي بنفسه.
And Abu Turab narrated from a Bedouin that he said: 'This verse is sufficient with its za'bah and zahbah, meaning by itself.'
والتزعب: النشاط والسرعة.
And al-taza'ub: energy and speed.
والتزعب: التغيظ.
And al-taza'ub: anger.
وزعيب: اسم.
And Za'īb: a name.
وزعبة: اسم حمار معروف؛ قال جرير: زعبة والشحاج والقنابلا
And Za'bah: the name of a known donkey; Jarir said: 'Za'bah, and al-Shuhaj, and al-Qanabil.'
وفي حديث سحر النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، أنه كان تحت زعوبة أو زعوفة.
And in the hadith of the Prophet's magic, peace be upon him, it was under za'ūbah or za'ūfah.
