He said: And it is from the masdars that are used in supplication for or against a man, like suqyan and ru'yan, jada'an and 'aqran; they mean may Allah give you to drink and may Allah tend to you.
معناه رحب الله بك مرحبا؛ كأنه وضع موضع الترحيب.
Its meaning is: May Allah make your arrival spacious for you; as if it were placed in the position of welcoming.
ورحب بالرجل ترحيبا: قال له مرحبا؛ ورحب به دعاه إلى الرحب والسعة.

مرحبا ، أي لقيت رحبا وسعة؛ وقيل: معناه رحب الله بك مرحبا؛ فجعل المرحب موضع الترحيب.

Ar-rihāb in the valleys, the singular is raHbatu, and they are low-lying places where water collects, and they are the fastest growing places in the land. They are at the end of the valley, and in its middle, and they may be in a high place where water collects, and the surroundings overlook it. If they are in flat land, people settle there, and if they are in the middle of the ravines, people do not settle there. If they are in the belly of the valley, they are aqnah, meaning a pit that holds water, not too deep, and its capacity is about a throwing distance, and people settle on one side of it. Ar-rihāb are not found in sand, but are found in the lowlands and highlands of the earth.
