And taking something by its 'rubbanuhu' means by its beginning;
وقيل: بربانه: بجميعه ولم يترك منه شيئا.
And it is said: by its 'rubbanuhu': by all of it, and nothing was left out.
ويقال: افعل ذلك الأمر بربانه أي بحدثانه وطراءته وجدته؛
And it is said: do that matter by its 'rubbanuhu', meaning in its newness, freshness, and prime;

And from this is said: a young sheep ('shatun rubba').

الربى أول الشباب؛
'Ar-rubaa' is the beginning of youth;
يقال: أتيته في ربى شبابه، ورباب شبابه، ورباب شبابه، وربان شبابه.
It is said: I came to him in the prime of his youth, and the youth of his youth, and the youth of his youth, and the beginning of his youth.
الربان من كل شيء حدثانه؛
'Ar-rubban' of everything is its newness;
وربان الكوكب: معظمه.
And 'rubban al-kawkab': its greatest part.
الربة الخير اللازم، بمنزلة الرب الذي يليق فلا يكاد يذهب،
'Ar-ribbah' is the lasting good, like a lord that is fitting and hardly departs,
اللهم إني أسألك ربة عيش مبارك، فقيل له: وما ربة عيش؟ قال: طثرته وكثرته.
O Allah, I ask You for a blessed life ('ribbata 'ayshin mubarakan'), and it was said to him: And what is 'ribbata 'aysh'? He said: Its abundance and its plenty.
فذرهم بربان، وإلا تذرهم ... يذيقوك ما فيهم، وإن كان أكثرا
So leave them to 'rubban', and if you do not leave them... they will make you taste what is in them, even if it is more.
إن كنت بي تشد ظهرك فأرخ، بربان، أزرك.
If you are relying on me, then loosen your belt by 'rubban'.
إن كنت بي تشد ظهرك فأرخ، من ربى، أزرك.
If you are relying on me, then loosen your belt, from 'rubba', your belt.
يقول: إن عولت علي فدعني أتعب، واسترخ أنت واسترح.
He says: If you depend on me, then let me tire, and you relax and rest.
والربى: الحاجة، يقال: لي عند فلان ربى.
And 'ar-rubaa': the need, it is said: I have a need from so-and-so.
والربى: العقدة المحكمة.
And 'ar-rubaa': the firm knot.
والربى: النعمة والإحسان.
And 'ar-rubaa': the favor and the kindness.
والربة: نبتة صيفية؛
And 'ar-ribbah': a summer plant;

'Rubba' is among the particles of meaning, and the difference between it and 'kamma' is that 'rubba' is for diminution, and 'kamma' is for augmentation, when not intended as a question;
وكلاهما يقع على النكرات، فيخفضها.
And both of them fall upon indefinite nouns, and make them genitive.
من الخطإ قول العامة: ربما رأيته كثيرا، وربما إنما وضعت للتقليل.
It is a mistake for the common people to say: 'Rubbama' I saw him often, for 'rubbama' is only for diminution.
ورب ورب: كلمة تقليل يجر بها، فيقال: رب رجل قائم، ورب رجل؛
And 'rubba' and 'rubba': a word of diminution by which it is used, so it is said: 'Rubba rajulin qa'im' (perhaps a standing man), and 'rubba rajul';
وتدخل عليه التاء، فيقال: ربت رجل، وربت رجل.
And the 'ta' is added to it, so it is said: 'Rubbat rajul', and 'rubbat rajul'.
ورب حرف خافض، لا يقع إلا على النكرة، يشدد ويخفف، وقد يدخل عليه التاء، فيقال: رب رجل، وربت رجل،
And 'rubba' is a preposition, it only occurs on an indefinite noun, it is geminated and lightened, and the 'ta' may be added to it, so it is said: 'Rubba rajul', and 'rubbat rajul',
ويدخل عليه ما، ليمكن أن يتكلم بالفعل بعده، فيقال: ربما.
And 'ma' is added to it, so that a verb can follow it, and it is said: 'Rubbama'.
وربما يود الذين كفروا ؛
Perhaps the disbelievers will wish;
والفرق بين ربما ورب: أن رب لا يليه غير الاسم، وأما ربما فإنه زيدت ما، مع رب، ليليها الفعل؛
And the difference between 'rubbama' and 'rubba' is that 'rubba' is followed only by a noun, but 'rubbama' has 'ma' added to 'rubba' so that a verb can follow it;
تقول: رب رجل جاءني، وربما جاءني زيد،
You say: 'Rubba rajulin ja'ani' (perhaps a man came to me), and 'Rubbama ja'ani Zayd' (perhaps Zayd came to me),
وأنشد ابن الأعرابي: ماوي يا ربتما غارة ... شعواء، كاللذعة بالميسم
And Ibn al-A'rabi recited: O Mawiya, perhaps a fierce raid... like the branding of a mark
كائن رأبت وهايا صدع أعظمه، ... وربه عطبا، أنقذت م العطب
I saw a being, and its bones were cracked, and its 'rubbahu' was ruined, I saved it from ruin
ونصب عطبا من أجل الهاء المجهولة.
And 'ataban' is in the accusative because of the unknown 'ha'.
وقولهم: ربه رجلا، وربها امرأة، أضمرت فيها العرب على غير تقدم ذكر، ثم ألزمته التفسير، ولم تدع أن توضح ما أوقعت به الالتباس، ففسروه بذكر النوع الذي هو قولهم رجلا وامرأة.
And their saying: 'Rubbahu rajulan' (perhaps he, a man), and 'Rubbaha' imra'atan' (perhaps she, a woman), the Arabs implied it without prior mention, then they necessitated its explanation, and did not refrain from clarifying what caused ambiguity, so they explained it by mentioning the type, which is their saying 'rajulan' and 'imra'atan'.
والعرب تسمي جمادى الأولى ربا وربى، وذا القعدة ربة؛
And the Arabs name Jumada al-Ula 'rubba' and 'rubbaa', and Dhu al-Qi'dah 'ribbah';
والربرب: القطيع من بقر الوحش، وقيل من الظباء، ولا واحد له؛
And 'ar-rabrab': the herd of wild cattle, and it is said of gazelles, and it has no singular;
قال: بأحسن من ليلى، ولا أم شادن، ... غضيضة طرف، رعتها وسط ربرب
He said: More beautiful than Layla, nor the mother of a young gazelle... with lowered gaze, she grazed amidst a herd.
