وقيل: الحوشبان من الفرس: عظما الرسغ؛ وفي التهذيب: عظما الرسغين.
And it was said: Al-hawshaban of a horse: the two bones of the fetlock; and in Al-Tahdhib: the two bones of the fetlocks.

She is not a broad-flanked one whose head covering stays on overnight, ... until morning, firmly attached with glue.
يقول: لا شعر على رأسها فهي لا تضع خمارها.
He means: she has no hair on her head, so she does not remove her head covering.
والحوشب: المنتفخ الجنبين.
And al-hawshab: the one with swollen flanks.
فالدهر، لا يبقى على حدثانه ... أنس لفيف، ذو طرائف، حوشب

قال السكري: حوشب: منتفخ الجنبين، فاستعار ذلك للجمع الكثير، ومما يذكر من شعر أسد بن ناعصة:
Al-Sukkari said: Hawshab: broad-flanked, so he metaphorically used it for a large gathering, and from what is mentioned of the poetry of Asad ibn Na'asah:
وعن تبهنس ظلمانه، ... يجاوب حوشبه القعنب
And a wilderness whose darkness is deep, ... its dense population answers the Qanab.
قيل: القعنب: الثعلب الذكر.
It was said: Al-qanab: the male fox.
والحوشب: الأرنب الذكر؛ وقيل: الحوشب: العجل، وهو ولد البقرة.
And al-hawshab: the male hare; and it was said: al-hawshab: the calf, which is the offspring of a cow.
