لا يحسن التعريض إلا ثلبا غيره

الثلب: شدة اللوم والأخذ باللسان، وهو المثلب يجري في العقوبات، والثلب.
Al-thulb: intense blame and verbal reproach, and it is al-mathlab which is used in punishments, and al-thulb.
لا يحسن التعريض إلا ثلابا
He does not excel at indirect speech except by blaming.
والمثالب: العيوب، وهي المثلبة والمثلبة.
And al-mathalib: the defects, and they are al-mathlabah and al-mathlabah.
ومثالب الأمير والقاضي: معايبه
And the faults of the prince and the judge: his defects.
ورجل ثلب وثلب: معيب.
And a man is thulb and thulb: defective.
وثلب الرجل ثلبا: طرده.
And he expelled the man with expulsion: he drove him away.
وثلبه الشيء: قلبه.
And he overturned the thing: he flipped it.
ورمح ثلب: متثلم.
And a spear is thulb: chipped.
لا عار، ولا ثلب اليلب
No shame, nor damage to the armor.
ومننه امرأة ثالبة الشوى أي متشققة القدمين
And among them is a woman thalibat al-shawā, meaning with cracked feet.
ورجل ثلب: منتهي الهرم متكسر الأسنان، والجمع أثلاب، والأنثى ثلبة، وأنكرها بعضهم، وقال: إنما هي ثلب.
And a man is thulb: at the end of old age with broken teeth, and the plural is athlab, and the feminine is thulbah, and some rejected it, saying: it is only thulb.
وقد ثلب تثليبا.
And he became extremely old with extreme old age.
والثلب: الشيخ، هذلية.
And al-thulb: the old man, a Hudhaili term.
إما تريني اليوم ثلبا شاخصا
If you see me today as an old man standing tall.
وبعير ثلب إذا لم يلقح.
And a camel is thulb if it does not impregnate.
والثلب، بالكسر: الجمل الذي انكسرت أنيابه من الهرم، وتناثر هلب ذنبه، والأنثى ثلبة، والجمع ثلبة، مثل قرد وقردة.
And al-thulb, with kasra: the male camel whose incisors have broken from old age, and the hair of its tail has fallen out, and the female is thulbah, and the plural is thulbah, like qird and qirdah.
تقول منه: ثلب البعير تثليبا، عن الأصمعي قاله في كتاب الفرق؛
You say from it: the camel became thulb with extreme old age, according to Al-Asma'i in his book Al-Farq.
لهم من الصدقة الثلب والناب.
They are entitled to the old male camel and the old female camel from the charity.
الثلب من ذكور الإبل: الذي هرم وتكسرت أسنانه.
Al-thulb from male camels: the one that has become old and its teeth have broken.
والناب: المسنة من إناثها، ومنه حديث ابن العاص كتب إلى معاوية رضي الله عنهما: إنك جربتني فوجدتني لست بالغمر الضرع ولا بالثلب الفاني.
And al-nāb: the old female from them, and from it is the hadith of Ibn Al-'As who wrote to Mu'awiyah, may Allah be pleased with them: You have tested me and found me to be neither ignorant and weak nor an old, decaying one.
وثلب جلده ثلبا، فهو ثلب، إذا تقبض.
And his skin shriveled with shriveling, so it is shriveled, if it contracted.
والثليب: كلأ عامين أسود، حكاه أبو حنيفة عن أبي عمرو، وأنشد:
And al-thaleeb: black herbage of two years, narrated by Abu Hanifa from Abu Amr, and he recited:
رعين ثليبا ساعة، ثم إننا ... قطعنا عليهن الفجاج الطوامسا
We grazed on thaleeb for a while, then we ... crossed the dark ravines over them.
والإثلب والأثلب: التراب والحجارة.
And al-ithlab and al-athlab: dust and stones.
وفي لغة: فتات الحجارة والتراب.
And in another dialect: small stones and dust.
قال شمر: الأثلب، بلغة أهل الحجاز: الحجر، وبلغة بني تميم: التراب.
Shamir said: Al-athlab, in the dialect of the people of Hijaz: a stone, and in the dialect of Banu Tamim: dust.
وبفيه الإثلب، والكلام الكثير الأثلب، أي التراب والحجارة.
And in his mouth is al-ithlab, and much talk is al-athlab, meaning dust and stones.
ولكنما أهدي لقيس هدية، ... بفي، من إهداها له، الدهر، إثلب
But I presented Qais with a gift, ... in my mouth, from my presenting it to him, forever, dust.
وإن تناهبه تجده منهبا، ... تكسو حروف حاجبيه الأثلبا
And if the enemy attacks it, you find it a path, ... covering the edges of its eyebrows with dust.
وحكى اللحياني: الإثلب لك والتراب.
And Al-Lihyani narrated: Al-ithlab is for you and the dust.
نصبوه كأنه دعاء، يريد: كأنه مصدر مدعو به، وإن كان اسما كما سنذكره لك في الحصحص والتراب، حين قالوا: الحصحص لك والتراب لك.
They made it accusative as if it were a supplication, meaning: as if it were a verbal noun being invoked, even if it is a noun as we will mention to you regarding al-hasḥaṣ and al-turāb, when they said: Al-ḥaṣḥaṣ is for you and the dust is for you.
الولد للفراش وللعاهر الإثلب.
The child belongs to the bed, and to the adulterer is al-ithlab (stones/disappointment).
الإثلب بكسر الهمزة واللام وفتحهما والفتح أكثر: الحجر.
Al-ithlab, with kasra on the hamza and lam, and opening them, with the opening being more common: a stone.
والعاهر: الزاني. كما في الحديث الآخر: وللعاهر الحجر ، قيل: معناه الرجم، وقيل: هو كناية عن الخيبة، وقيل: الأثلب: التراب، وقيل: دقاق الحجارة، وهذا يوضح أن معناه الخيبة إذ ليس كل زان يرجم، وهمزته زائدة.
And al-'āhir: the adulterer. As in another hadith: And to the adulterer is al-ḥajar (stone/disappointment), it was said: its meaning is stoning, and it was said: it is a metaphor for disappointment, and it was said: al-athlab: dust, and it was said: small stones, and this clarifies that its meaning is disappointment, as not every adulterer is stoned, and its hamza is extra.
والأثلم، كالأثلب، عن الهجري. قال: لا أدري أبدل أم لغة.
And al-athlam, like al-athlab, from Al-Hajari. He said: I do not know if it is a substitution or a dialect.
أحلف لا أعطي الخبيث درهما، ... ظلما، ولا أعطيه إلا الأثلما
I swear I will not give the wicked man a dirham, ... unjustly, nor will I give him except al-athlama (stones/dust).
والثليب: القديم من النبت.
And al-thaleeb: the old herbage.
والثليب: نبت وهو من نجيل السباخ، كلاهما عن كراع.
And al-thaleeb: a plant, and it is from the grass of salt marshes, both from Kurā'.
بأحزة الثلبوت، يربأ، فوقها، ... قفر المراقب، خوفها آرامها
