وَرَدَ عنكَ نَجْأَةُ هذا الشيءِ أي شَهْوَتُكَ إياه

And from you comes the intense desire for this thing, meaning your craving for it.

وذلك إذا رأيتَ شيئاً فاشْتَهَيْتَهُ.

And that is when you see something and desire it.

يُقالُ ادْفَعْ عنكَ نَجْأَةَ السائِلِ أي أعْطِهِ شيئاً مما تأكلُ لِتَدْفَعَ به عنكَ شِدَّةَ نَظَرِهِ

It is said: Ward off from yourself the intense gaze of the asker, meaning give him something to eat to ward off the intensity of his look.

ألا بِكَ النَّجْأَةُ يا رَدَّادُ

Indeed, you have the intense desire, O Raddad.

نَجَأَتِ الدابةُ وغيرها: أصبتُها بعيني، والاسمُ النَّجْأَةُ.

The animal and other things were struck by the evil eye: I afflicted it with my eye, and the noun is 'al-naj'ah'.

ردُّوا نَجْأَةَ السائِلِ باللُّقْمَةِ

Ward off the intense gaze of the asker with a morsel.

فقد تكونُ الشهوةُ، وقد تكونُ الإصابةُ بالعينِ.

It might be desire, and it might be affliction by the evil eye.

والنَّجْأَةُ: شدةُ النظرِ؛

And 'al-naj'ah' means intensity of gaze;

أي إذا سأَلَكم عن طعامٍ بينَ أيديكم فأعْطُوهُ لئلا يُصيبَكم بالعينِ، ورُدُّوا شدةَ نظَرِهِ إلى طعامِكم بِلُقْمَةٍ تَدْفَعُونَها إليهِ.

Meaning, if he asks you about food in front of you, give him some so he doesn't strike you with the evil eye, and divert the intensity of his gaze towards your food with a morsel you give him.

أعْطِهِ اللُّقْمَةَ لِتَدْفَعَ بها شدةَ النظرِ إليكَ.

Give him the morsel to deflect the intensity of his gaze towards you.

وله معنيانِ: أحدُهما أن تَقْضيَ شَهْوَتَهُ وتَرُدَّ عَيْنَهُ من نَظَرِهِ إلى طعامِكَ رِفْقاً بهِ ورَحْمَةً،

And it has two meanings: one is that you satisfy his desire and turn his gaze away from your food out of kindness and mercy towards him,

والثاني أن تَحْذَرَ إصابَتَهُ نِعْمَتَكَ بِعَيْنِهِ لِفَرْطِ تَحْدِيقِهِ وحِرْصِهِ.

And the second is that you guard against him afflicting your bounty with his eye due to his excessive staring and eagerness.
